::Yawn::... I got out of bed at 3:48.. yes, in the MIDDLE of the night, to see if I could get a photo of the "Blood Moon". Dear Readers, that is dedication. A Blood Moon appears after a lunar eclipse. I wanted to see this with my own two eyes. I was skeptical. I was amazed to see the color of the moon! It WAS red! Now, I must tell you that there was such low light that my photo is very grainy.. dang it.. but still, you get the idea. I took several shots and I should have used a tripod, but I didn't.. I was up for 15 minutes and then climbed back into bed. Have you ever seen the moon like this?
Here is my shot of the moon earlier, right after it rose. Oh Moon, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways...
Yesterday I made a second eyeglasses case with my Pendleton wool blanket fabric.. I thought it would be nice beveled at the bottom and then I got the idea to wrap the edge with buckskin. I sewed it on with synthetic sinew, I had initially thought I'd sew through the leather but that was SOOOO difficult that I decided to sew OVER the leather. Yes, you've never seen this done and neither had I.. so I guess I'm a innovator. :-)
I made a little tab of a bit of the leather I'd cut for the edging and sewed it on and made a button hole and sewed on a daisy shaped abalone button that I actually got from Cath Kidston in England! The local Indians used abalone a lot for decorative purposes on the clothes and jewelry.
I'm happy with the finished product, although it might need further embellishment.. or not. It not only fits my glasses, but also a nice fit for my iPhone! :-) I'm so enjoying making these little bags by hand and using my imagination! I hope you try it.. and if you do.. share your photo with me.
My DIL Kristi got a new camera not long ago.. she sat outside for hours trying to capture good images of the moon during and after the eclipse. Here are a few of her best ones. The beginning of the eclipse.
Kristi captured an amazing red color in this shot!
I just found this image on the net.. I wonder what kind of camera captured this!
Your photos of the moon are incredible (grainy or not) great job . . . and yes worth getting up for!
ReplyDeleteLove the eyeglass case, you are so talented. The buckskin trim is perfect with that fabric :)
Connie :)
I have never seen a blood moon, it was certainly worth getting out of bed for, stunning. Your case is beautiful, I love the leatherwork and I am a great fan of Cath Kidston. Hope you have a good time at the party.
ReplyDeleteGreat moon shots. Very strange to see the moon that colour. I am impressed with your second bag. Great innovation and it looks good too. I think somewhere my Dad has a little leather punch, it makes the holes for you. If you were nearer I could pop it round. ;) xx
ReplyDeleteCool pictures Teresa! That's dedication to get up so early to take pictures for us. I like your new glasses case-the buckskin was a brilliant idea. Have fun at your party.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
Your glasses case is pretty and yes, that is innovative to sew over the leather. Good idea. Have fun at the surprise party for your friend.
ReplyDeleteWow, stunning shots of the moon, I've never seen it glowing red, it's amazing. I wonder what ancient peoples made of it all. Lovely glasses case, very well made. CJ xx
ReplyDeleteTeresa, thank you for sharing the wonderful pix with us all! I can't help but wonder how frightened people of the world were hundreds of years ago when seeing a blood moon without any explanation.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots!!! thank you. I saw the blood moon this winter after working until midnight. I stayed up awhile and it WAS red and very cool . Then I promptly went to sleep!! So I passed on last nights' miracle...glad you documented it for us
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed the photos! Very neat coloring on the moon! I missed out on seeing the colors--just got outside in time to see the end of the eclipse.
ReplyDeleteWonderful moon shots Teresa, I must do my post about it too as took quite a few. Have fun at the birthday party xoxo
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! The moon shots are amazing, and I am so impressed you got up so early to take your photos. I wimped out...still trying to recover from my three weeks away :-) I love the way you incorporated the leather in your design. It not only finishes the case nicely, but I bet it will help it wear longer, too. My youngest daughter came with me today to try out the pool. She walked for therapy for her hip while I swam laps and we had the pool almost all to ourselves! Missed you, though. xx
ReplyDeleteGreat shots Teresa! You are a dedicated blogger and friend!! I didn't see it for real but it sure is awesome! Love your eyeglass creation, you really came up with a great design. Take care my dear and have fun at the party, xoRobin
ReplyDeleteThe moon was gorgeous. By the time I woke it was back to white but still gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteYour eyeglass case turned out great. I like the leather trim.
I some good pictures of the eclipse. But the clouds came in before the moon turned red. But I got all but the last remaining sliver of the moon. I was up from 4:15 until about 5:00. It was so interesting to see how fast the moon disappeared. I love your pictures. I wish I could have seen the red moon. But maybe another time.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos of the moon from you and Kristi, Teresa. I really like your glasses/iPod case as well. Sewing over the buckskin is an innovation on your part!
ReplyDeleteYour photos of the moon are magical Teresa and I love your glasses case too...the fabric is lovely (and how good that they are a perfect size for an iPhone!) Best wishes to Sally for a lovely birthday and wonderful retirement x

You are a dedicated photographer! Nice work!
ReplyDeleteWe were out for our walk at 5:45 and were able to see the blood moon very well. I actually thought of you and your previous moon pictures that morning! I didn't take my camera along, but I doubt mine could have gotten anything very clear.
ReplyDeleteWow Teresa you moon photos are lovely and so is your latest glasses/ i phone case. I love the binding and the button too.
ReplyDeletehope you had a great party

Amazing photos Teresa. Love the glasses case as well. Hope the party went well. Hugs Anne x
ReplyDeleteYour moon photos are incredible. I didn't even know it was going to be a blood moon/eclipse until I got up and was taking Max out at 6:00, it was beautiful. I tried to get my camera and it just did not photograph well. It was more of a pale orange from my house. Good luck to your friend Sally.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Meredith
Your moon photos are great, Teresa. I missed it altogether so it's nice to see your shots. Thanks for sharing. :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE what you did with the eyeglass case! Gives it a real western flavor! Perhaps Pendleton should hire you--I bet they'd sell:)
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Aimee
PS: Nice moon shot!
Hi Teresa, wonderful photos of the moon! We had excellent viewing from here in Tasmania at a very civilized 8pm. I didn't get any shots this time around but I did the last time. I think we have 2 more chances next year so fingers crossed for good weather the next time around. Love your case, very clever the way you did the binding...Mel x
