Hand Made Glasses Case

Hello!  How was your weekend?  We had more of this run of hot, sunny weather and you know what?  I'm over it!  I'm ready for cooler weather and even some rain.  But Dayle and I decided to just take it easy and pretty much stayed home.  Our son took his family to Kahneeta to swim yesterday.  I took advantage of the quiet time and pulled out my scissors, black floss and needle and began to make the glasses case that I envisioned when I bought this amazing woven wool fabric at the Pendleton Woolen Mill.

It was a bit scary cutting into woven fabric, but I blanket stitched the two top sides, then hand stitched the sides together.  What do you think?  I'm wondering if I need more embellishment on it.. hmm..

I was thinking that a buckskin flap on the top with some beads?  But it also works well just plain.  What would you do?

I got one of my old Indian dolls off the shelf where she spends her time to photograph with the bag.. her hair is from a horses tail, I think.  :-)

I will be heading to the pool soon.  I sure do love to swim.  I hope you have a lovely week ahead.  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. That is a great case Teresa, but knowing you I think it does need something more. Maybe some beadwork on the blue part? It is lovely just as it is too though. It's supposed to be over 80 here today! Craziness for October but I'll take it, it's better than snow and it cools off nicely at night.

Yeah...I'm done with hot, dry weather too! It was over 100 this weekend again. So, ready for cooler weather and some rain!

  4. It works really well just as it is....but the idea of a buckskin flap and beads sounds very interesting and a lovely decorative idea :) I am sending you some of our cooler temperatures and rain :)
Wishing you a happy week ahead, Teresa.

  5. Neat fabric. Looks soft. I like it simple, but embellished would be fun too.

  6. Nice functional little case in a lovely fabric. I would have been nervous cutting it too. I have heard some people cut knitting, 'steeking' and then seam it! Never. It would all unravel for me and I would be in a mess. The Doll looks very pleased with her new lap blanket. xx

  10. I don't think your glasses case needs anything else - it looks good as it is. I love lazy kind of days with nothing in particular planned. Mind you, I do have lots of those LOL !! Today, however is another story and I really need to get a job done that's rather urgent. Enjoy your swim. xox

  11. Ooh, Pendleton fabric! The case turned out really well. You might put a button or some simple beadwork on the blue section - something circular to contrast with the angular print. I'm envisioning wood, red, or silver for the accent.

We have plenty of cold weather. If I could send you some I would! :)

  13. I love your use of a blanket stitch on the new case and think it would look great with some sort of embellishment addition. I am sure you'll come up with the perfect one! I am enjoying our blue skies but we really do need more some rain. Been following one of my favorite weather blogs and -- well, we'll see what happens this autumn. At least it sounds like we might have a rain blessing heading our way later this week:)
    Blessings, Aimee

  20. What a nice case, Teresa. It's unique and functional. I love it the way it is, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to add more if you wanted to do that.

  21. Good for you making that great eye glass case. i think it looks perfect, and your Indian Doll model looks great with it too. Maybe she needs a blanket made from that fabric.

  22. The glasses case looks great as is, Teresa, but I can imagine it looking good with the type of embellishment you described. If you are planning to carry it in a bag the embellishment might snag on other items in your bag and be an irritation. If you are going to leave it on a table by your bed or a chair where you and others can enjoy looking at it then the embellishment would be perfect. As is, it looks cool with your Native American doll! Hope to be swimming with you tomorrow :-) xx

  23. Really good! Very practical indeed especially if one is a large bag user like me. I tend to buy purses in bright colours so I can find mine straight away instead of having to rummage for ages. I could see this lovely bright fabric being used as a mobile case as well.

    keep well
