A Visit to the Woolen Mill Store

Dayle and I took a drive west along the Columbia River, crossed the river headed north, then headed east on the other side of the river, to Washougal, Washington.  There resides an unassuming old building that houses the Pendleton Mill Store where you can get good deals on their products and discontinued patterns, plus yardage of their beautifully woven fabrics.

They have the most beautiful display of blankets!  These are all Chief Joseph designs in different colors.

See the old style striped blankets?

The colors are wonderful.

What blanket design is your favorite?

I tried to talk Dayle into getting a vest.. but he said "it isn't me".  I think he'd be cute in this! :-)

We got a couple things, I'll show you below.  Then after we left the store we drove through the old town of Washougal and then drove on to Camas and checked out their historic old town.  I liked this old theater.  That is a lot of movies, how small are the film rooms?

On our drive home we traveled up the Sandy River and I pulled into Dabney State Park where I hopped out of the car and walked down to the edge of the river to get a photo of how swollen the river is with all our recent rains.

This morning I took a few photos of my bargain purchases.. a laptop bag and a notebook.  I wanted to downsize what I took to my meetings and the notebook was just the thing.  And who doesn't need a laptop bag in beautiful colors? :-)

I've got this notebook all set to attend the Friends of Multnomah Falls board meeting this evening.  Now that I am not president any longer I have a LOT less paperwork to take to the meetings.  :-D

No more piles of agendas and reports - just a handwritten report.

Well, I have to rush.. pack my swim bag and meet Gracie for our lap-swimming.  What plans do you have this week?  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  4. That's the coolest note book cover ever! I have to laugh (at myself) when you said note book I imagined a small laptop or tablet. I'm actually really glad it's a good old paper pad though, I love note books and diaries, nothing better than starting a new one and writing down all the things you need to remember & do :-)

  7. Lovely finds and store Teresa. I think I told you before that my parents both retired from Pendleton Woolen Mills and all of us children worked there at one time or another. My childhood was spent wearing jumpers made from samples of those exact same fabrics so seeing them brings back many, many memories. I'm glad you found such fun things. Back "in the day" it was just blankets and clothes. No frippery like laptop cases and notebooks! :-)
Did I ever tell you that Brad proposed to Mandy while he was flying her in a Piper plane over Camas? The plan had been to go by Mt. St. Helens but it was venting steam that day. :-)
I'm sure you had a wonderful time with Gracie. I love you both!
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  9. Gorgeous blankets, and I love your purchases, especially the notebook case. It's so interesting to see what's on at your cinema. It wasn't very many years ago that we Brits had to wait for ages after you guys had a film on at the cinema before it would eventually come to our screens. Now they are pretty much the same at the same time I think.

  10. Thanks so much, Teresa, for sharing photos of the Pendleton store and your goodies! Don't know if I could decide on a blanket but love the colors of your laptop bag and notebook cover, especially the a aqua...drool! A couple of years ago I bought blanket yardage at the Pendleton store in Portland and made blankets for each of my big kids. It was quite a bargain considering the discounted wool and they even sell the wool binding...and give you a real Pendleton label to sew on your blanket! Love that part.
I don't know if you had time to go to Camas Antiques but it is a wonderful place to shop.

  13. lovely blankets. I like your purchases. I didn't know there was a Pendleton store in Washougal. Maybe I'll venture there sometime. I love historic towns as well. I'm just working the early shift this week, so earlier to bed than usual to get up earlier than usual. But it's only one week!! We have some swollen creeks here as well. At least it's dry today, and cold!!! Have a good week!

  15. Happy New Year sweet friend...thank you for being so faithful even though I have not been around much. Looks like you are keeping busy. I adore those blankets...especially the striped Hudson Bay blankets. You asked who that little one was in my Instagram photos...it is my 6mos old grandson who we just can not get enough of...he lives minutes away so we see a lot of him. Enjoy your adventures and thanks again for being such a dear friend. xoxo

  16. Your purchases are really beautiful. I would love to go there sometime. I think ours is still open but I'm not sure if they sell any blankets there. I think it's just the shirts, but I'm not sure. I hope you had fun swimming with Gracie!

  22. Plans this week: Keep working out even though I hurt my shoulder a bit yesterday on the elliptical. I did get outside in the dreariness yesterday and today for a walk. The sidewalks are almost clear of ice.
I want to Knit with friends on Thursday!

  25. Wow..... another trip down memory lane! Just discovered your blog and am browsing it with my cup of tea! I lived in Washougal, WA for 30 years (minus a few years when I lived in The Dalles, OR) and visited the Pendleton Woolen Mill MANY times! I loved their old remnant store that has since been torn down. It was a treasure trove of mill end fabrics plus the wools. The new store is pretty fancy and doesn't have the remnants like they used to, but their blankets are such candy to my eyes. My husband and I own about 5 of their blankets. I love the old Chief Joseph designs and colors. And Dabney Park along the Sandy River! I used to go there when I was a teen living in Portland! I so enjoyed your picture of the Sandy River. I made that drive along the curvey road many times!...... of course on my way to Springdale and Corbett!

And oh... the Liberty Theater in Camas! I went to many many movies there with my kids when they were little (30 years ago).... and when it reopened a few years ago, went a few times. The theater inside is fairly small but very cozy. I loved their bargain nights when it used to cost only $1.50 for a show. Thank you again for the memories! Marilyn
