Restorative Rippling

Hello my friends, how was your weekend?  Mine was spent recovering from a fall.  Thank heavens I didn't break anything!  I am a bit sore and my shoulder is hurt, but I'm getting better.  After swimming on friday I slipped in the shower and went down onto the tile floor like a sack of potatoes.  I am thankful that -- A. I had not dead-bolted the door before I fell and -- B. I still had on my swim suit.  :-)  Gracie heard me howl as I fell and came to my rescue.  She put my towel on the floor for me to kneel on and put a chair for me to push myself up into a standing position and I was able to continue with my shower and get home.  I am so thankful to Gracie that she was there to give me a helping hand and a much-needed hug.

It was a beautiful sunny weekend, but I spent my time in my easy chair hoping that my shoulder would improve.  And I'm so glad I had a soft, pleasant crochet blanket to work on while I was taking a break from adventure living.  :-)

I am also thankful that my order for 6 new colors of Billow cotton from KnitPicks arrived on Friday.

What I love about this line of cotton is that all the colors are complimentary to each other, so no matter what I use next, it works!  Who would have thought to use a dusty teal with a grape-y purple?  But I think it's really pretty!  A shout out to Lucy at Attic24 for her "neat ripple" design and her brilliant "Interlocking Colour Ripple".

Thank heavens for my dear husband, Dayle, who holds my yarn while I roll it into a ball to use.  I hold the beginning end and then wrap the ball around my index finger and when it's all wound up, you ca pull from the center of the ball with the end you held out.  I am a sucker for the homey look of a hand rolled ball of yarn.

My son and DIL Kristi brought me a bouquet of flowers after my fall, wasn't that sweet?

I have a small collection of these vintage baskets with fabric sides, they make the BEST project bags for a crochet blanket.  I find it pleasant that the colors in the fabric match the colors in my blanket.. lol!

I finished a knitted "Grandma" dishcloth with my new Premier Yarn cotton in taupe.  There was a "tie join" in it which really annoyed me, but I tried to bury the fuzzy ends in.  I will tell you that crochet was much easier on my injured left should than was knitting.

These will be gifts with a little soap on top tied with a ribbon.

Here are the other colors that will be used to finish off this lap blanket.  See what I mean by how the colors complement each other?

I used my newest sterling silver hook on this project, it's an H size and made by my friends John and Molly of "Celtic Swan" designs.  Please keep John in your thoughts during his final days being cared for by his devoted wife Molly in their farmhouse on Lopez Island, WA.

And so, on I crochet.. time to add "Turmeric" in...

Kristi and I went out for some fresh air yesterday and I held a jar of water while she cut some daffodils for me.  We had THE biggest bloom of them this year.. and they are huge and fragrant.  I sniff them each time I pass them on the dining room table.  My green quart Ball jar is the perfect vase for them.

I will have to skip swimming today as my shoulder isn't quite able to rotate for my backstroke, but hopefully by Wednesday I'll be back in order.  I should be making lots of progress on my blanket, though!  I hope you have a wonderful week ahead of you.  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. Beautiful photos, flowers, and work, Teresa! I am so glad you are on the mend! Thanks for the link to the pattern of the blanket you are working on. I love the colors you are using. I think the next thing I am going to tackle is crocheting a baby hat using your pattern and knitting one with a pattern from blogging friend, Linda who lives down in Kris's territory :) I am thinking of John and Molly with love and sending you more hugs of encouragement. xx

  6. Gracie to the rescue!! I am so glad that your fall wasn't more serious. But crocheting is the absolute best way to spend the day in any situations. Those colors are so pretty together. It was so sweet of Kristi to bring you flowers and help with the daffodils. I will keep John and Molly in my prayers. So sad, he is so talented. Hope you're better much faster.

  10. Teresa!! You poor thing. I know exactly how you feel. And you may have injured that shoulder worse than you think. I wish you'd go get it checked out by an orthopedic doc! That is exactly how I ripped all the tendons off my shoulder (also called a rotator cuff injury). You may need an MRI to see if any of them are torn and need repair. I didn't have any visual signs that anything was wrong and waited 11 days before getting that MRI. All they could see on the x-ray was whether any bones were broken. There was a small fracture. I sound like an old mother hen! Lol! But our bodies are not as resilient as they used to be in our 20s and 30s. I'm so glad Gracie was there with you! Take care. I'm really loving your ripple blanket. Makes me want to make one too! Such pretty colors.

Lovely blanket & what a good time to work on it. The colors have a nice calming effect.

I had to take a double look at your arrangement of daffodils as we have the very same arrangement in our garden window. LOL - great minds do think alike.

The colours are beautiful and it really is amazing how well they all go together. The dishcloths are lovely too - great colours.

  21. Oh poor you! I hope, you're back to full power soon.
I'd tell the pool as they might need to consider non- slip mats or those racks you stand on in cubicles here at least in pool facilities. It could have been so much worse.

  33. Teresa I'm so relieved to hear your ok after your fall, so glad you didn't break any bones. I broke my wrist a few years ago whilst walking along outside. Nothing dramatic, just stumbled. So it's easily done. Glad you are ok
