Tulip Festival - Woodburn, Oregon

Hello my friends!  I hope you had a wonderful weekend.  We actually had a quiet, restful and productive time.  On Friday we decided to beat the rain and head to the opening day of the Tulip Festival!  Our DIL Kristi and our two grandsons went with us.  I was surprised to see that the fields that were full of tulips last time we went were empty of flowers and we had to catch a tram pulled by a tractor down to the fields of tulips.  I asked someone why there were no flowers where they were last and she said they have to move the bulbs and let the field repair and rest.  I love this shot of the fields with the old farmhouse and barn behind.

Such beautiful colors and perky flowers.

The foothills of the Cascade Mountains in the distance.

I love the magenta ones.. what color is your favorite?

They have a cute little windmill with wooden shoe carts around it.  Do you see Mt. Hood way in the background on the far left?

In the park around the windmill are raised beds full of tulips for the enjoyment of the visitors.

I simply adore interesting varieties, give me variegated flowers anytime.

Another favorite were these spiky purple ones.  Beyond the rows of same colored ones were fields stretching on of multicolored tulips.

There are walking paths between the rows of flowers so you can get up close and personal to the tulips.

A bit of sun shone on Mt. Hood so I zoomed in for a shot.

More of the beds of different varieties.

Hello there!

Some frilly orange and yellow ones.

They had 3 old steam tractors on display.

There was a fair area at the festival and my 2 grandsons amazed me at their bravado.. both of them jumped off this tower onto this big blown up thing.  This is Hayden.

This is Hayden on another activity, jumping and flipping.. he's so athletic!

The little darlings posing for us in a big wooden shoe.

Hayden (top) and Caleb are little teddy bears!

A tub full of stripedy crocus.. love.

This big old flatbed truck all shiny and red and full of tubs of daffodils, tulips and hyacinth.  This is next to the gift shop where I had a good old cruise through while the boys were jumping, flipping, sliding and such.

The Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm who hosts the Tulip Festival is located in the fertile Willamette River Valley.  There are these huge oak trees all down through the valley and many farms raise a lot of our vegetable here, plus sheep farms and wineries.

Some wonderful variegated centered daffodils.

Fragrant hyacinths.

Finally when we were ready to go the rain began to fall.  I went on to the car and pretty soon Travis ran up and grabbed my umbrella and told me an elderly woman had fallen in the gravel and was bleeding pretty badly.  Kristi got down on the ground and held the umbrella over her head while one of the owners of the farm tried to clean up the blood and make her as comfortable as possible until the ambulance arrived.  Travis helped by putting a blanket over her and Kristi even gave the woman her jacket.  It makes you realize how careful we must be just walking across the parking area.

I had spied this beautiful old church on our way to the festival, so on our way home we pulled in and took a few photos of it.  I am happy to see this church being cared for and used.

When Travis and Kristi filled out an accident report for the farm - they insisted that they take 3 bouquets of tulips in return for their help with the woman who fell.  So, we have a virtual garden of flowers on the dining room table.. the yellow, red and purple ones added to my big bouquet of many colors that we already had.

I hope you have enjoyed visiting the tulip festival with us!  I have finished my neat ripple cotton blanket.. I will try to get some photos of it and share it with you on my next post.  I hope Spring has arrived where you live!  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. Boy oh boy, did you all have quite a time at the tulip festival.
I do pray the lady who fell is doing well now. That can be so unsettling to fall, but it was a good thing you all were there to help her. Special thank you's to Kristi for her quick thinking.

    The flower photo's are beautiful.

  8. What a gorgeous place to visit. Hard to choose a favourite tulip, although I do like dark plummy reddish purples and also pure white ones. How kind of the farm owners to give your son and his wife the flowers. There are some lovely and kind people out there. I'm glad you had a good time. CJ xx

  9. Lovely photos, Teresa! I was so happy when I saw you had posted your tulip festivals photos. My goodness, I can't pick just one favorite...I love them all! :D Not good that the elderly lady got hurt, but it's nice that you got some pretty tulips. Hope the lady is doing well. Lovely church photo, too! :) I almost feel like I went with you on your little excursion! :D

  10. I love the mauve tulips though the red and yellow ones remind me of my childhood gardens. My present garden soil grows fantastic displays of daffodils. But tulips don't thrive in it for some reason.

  11. Wow. I just love seeing this tulip farm. I look forward to it every year on your blog. Thank you for sharing. It's a life goal for me to see it in person someday, seriously. That poor lady, it's so good of you to help her. I am sure she appreciated it. Your tulips at home are gorgeous too, enjoy them.

  13. Well. That was some day at the festival wasn't it? How wonderful of Travis and Kristi to take such good care of the lady. My prayers are with her that her injuries were minor and that she will be fine. Such lovely pictures of the tulips and other flowers. Someday I hope to be in Portland and able to visit the festival myself. The striped crocuses are my favorites. Have a lovely week my friend.

  15. Teresa, There is so much beauty in this post . . . If I were there in person, I don't know if my poor old heart could handle it. I guess that I will have to put a visit on my bucket list and just find out. Thank you for sharing your trip with us. It is hard to pick a favorite photo but the tub full of stripedy crocus took my breath away :)

  16. How wonderful that your family was able to help that poor woman who got hurt! Loved the historic church -- it is one I have never seen before (I have an ongoing collection of historic church photos). Tulips are wonderful and I hope to be able to see them in person this year...we'll see. Your grandson Hayden reminds me of my oldest grandson in his athletic ability--awesome :)
    Blessings,

  17. i am going out on Friday to take photos. My daughter, Megan was there on the farm when she saw Paul, Woodburn Fire Chief, helping the woman that fell. Megan got two blankets from her car to help her out. She met your son and saw the umbrella. It was your son that asked if she had any blankets? Small world! She saw you all in the tulip gift shop! She thought she recognized you! The lady is ok. (Megan works at the tulip farm.) You photos are lovely. I like the apricot parrot tulips and negritta tulips....which are purple. Have a good week!

  21. Those tulips are beautiful and so are your pictures. I'm still amazed with how you get such great shots when you zoom in. I really must try with my camera. You should be very proud of your boys (and Kristi) for being such good first-aid providers - big pat on the back for them. xox
