Kitty and Karate

Living in the countryside we get our fair share of refugee animals that are either lost or worse, dumped out of the car door of someone from town that no longer wants the animal.  Our latest visitor is a orange tabby male cat.  Kristi has adopted it and is feeding it.. it is very thin.  Want to help us name it?  Please share your suggestion.

Here he is peeking out from under our deck which is where he's seeking shelter.

Do you know of Pioneer Woman?  The blogger, Food Network star, writer, mother of 4 and ranch wife?  If not.. well.. you're a rare one!  She just brought out a line of products and I ordered a few things.  This is the glassware, 4 little bowls and I just love them!  They are gorgeous, heavy and well-made.

This is embossed in the bottom of the bowls.

They are available at Walmart.com - I also got some kitchen utensils.. very well made.  (I am not a sponsor, I just like these things!)

I ran across a quart jar in the pickle jar pattern of my gallon jar.. on Etsy and had to have it.  I've never seen a quart jar like this.

I just love the twisted rope pattern of it.

Yesterday our son Shawn asked us to attend the graduation of their son Gabriel from Karate class.  It was an amazingly large event in their son Michael's brand new high school in Vancouver, WA.  The auditorium was really amazing!

That's Gabe in the black in the middle.

It was fun to watch all the kids perform.

At the end some of the instructors and most advanced students put on quite a show!  Afterwards we went out to dinner at a fun little Italian place in old town Vancouver.  A fun time was had by all.

I will have to bid you adieu, I'm off to a Daughters of the American Revolution meeting of the Portland Chapter -- then racing off to swim with Gracie!  Goodness, life can be so busy!  I hope you have a nice week ahead.  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  2. What a gorgeous cat. My friend used to have a cat that colour, and he was called Ambrose. Your cat put me in mind of him at once. The Pioneer Woman sounds like Wonder Woman. Some people just amaze me with all that they achieve. I've achieved exactly nothing today, unless you count opening the post. CJ xx

  3. Sweet kitty! Looks like a Gingersnap. :-) Glad he found shelter at your place.
Oh yes, I love Pioneer Woman and want to make ALL of her recipes. Yum! The dishes are very pretty--good thing I don't have room for one more in my kitchen, would want them all. ha.

  5. Hi Teresa! I was going to ask you where you could buy the Pioneer Woman products. Thanks for telling me before I asked! You can read my mind. I've been a fan of hers for years, but I'm a couple of weeks behind in reading her blog. Your new kitty looks so sweet. Scared but sweet. How nice that you're taking care of him. The karate class looks intense! So nice that you were able to go and see the graduation for Gabe. You're wonderful grandparents. Have fun with Gracie!
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  6. Sweet kitty. My name suggestion would be - Flynn - a Celtic name that means "son of the red-haired man". Because this little fellow has an autumn, gingery color fur.

Love all your glassware. Aren't the Pioneer Woman's tableware collection just gorgeous.

Gabriel has a good command of the art of karate. It's a helpful sport for a child's practice of self control and self defense. My niece has had her two sons take karate instruction for the last three years and they love it.
Loving this cooler weather and the bit of rain we received this morning. I'm making my special stew with pearl barley and some rice crispy treats for dessert. Yum!

  7. The kitten is very pretty. I don't know what you should name him...I hope you get some good suggestions. I've never had a cat! I've hardly even spent time with any, so I don't really know cats at all. Your glassware is very nice. I've enjoyed the Pioneer Woman's recipes for a long time. She has a very good baked bean recipe that I've made for years. I hope you had a nice time at DAR and swimming with Gracie. Have a great week, Teresa.

  11. I think "O.J." would be a good name. Short for "orange juice".

  12. I am going to suggest Marmalade, he is certainly the right colour citrus looking. Looks like a fun time watching Gabe, he certainly has great stature. The glassware is beautiful.

  13. What a sweet kitten. ...he is so lucky to have found your home. I would call him Kevin...no idea why it just suits him in my eyes. .lol. Well done to your grandson on his achievement sport is so vital for our young ones x

  14. He looks so much like my beautiful Tonka, a rescue cat we had for 17 years. Sadly we had to have him put to sleep this April, he had a large, aggressive tumour. Still miss him. He was named by the rescue centre, I guess he was a little toughie like the Tonka trucks!

  15. My mind is stuck on jam making, I think, because the color of your kitty seems like his name might be Marmalade :) The glassware you showed us is interesting and pretty! Cheers for Gabe! Not only is he learning an amazing discipline, but I think he was very brave to perform on that fabulous huge stage! By the time I made it to the grocery store and put the groceries away after swimming yesterday, I was too tired to go to the knitting group last night; and this morning since I woke up I have a sore muscle in my right shoulder from turning my head away from the splashy swimmer in the lane to the right of me :) Hope you and yours have a happy day! xx

  16. Awww! Love your new butter kitty! I hope he fattens up and is safe and happy there. I saw a cat named Higgins a long time ago on someone's blog. I thought that was a really cute name for a male cat. Now about those Pioneer Woman things...I got my goblets at the Walmart about 30 miles from us. Everything I wanted was out of stock online. The first time I went to Walmart they didn't have anything out, but at the end of last week, I saw that they had just started stocking it. I had them go to the back and see if they could pull out an aqua Dutch oven for me. I REALLY wanted that dutch oven in aqua! (I love the linen color too.) They tried and tried, but they couldn't get to it, so they promised me if I came back the next morning, they would have one put aside for me. I came back the next morning, and low and behold, it wasn't there. But good ol' Walmart came through for me. They went to the back and dug it out for me. I waited an hour, but it was worth it! They just happened to have 8 of the Adeline Goblets in aqua out on the shelf and I scooped them all up too! Yay! Isn't it so pretty? I love the design and colors, and I'm very pleased with the quality of the Dutch oven. I haven't made anything in it yet, but I see a roast in our future! I'm thinking it's going to be a great pan to make candy in. It's so nice and heavy...perfect for candy-making.

  17. A lovely catch up! I have been looking at the PW things online, but of course we don't have them here, they look very pretty though! Your new pickle jar - well, new to you! - is a great find isn't it!! xx

  18. Sweet kitty. Am sure that Kristi will work her magic with him/her. Love the PW ware - not seen it before. I love going to watch the grandchildren. Hugs Anne x

  19. I would name her marmalade or caramel. Pretty kitty. That glasswear is very pretty! I also love the rope design on the pickle jar.

  20. Don't know what happened to my post so I'll try again.
My suggestion for the kitten is "Tugs" because he tugged at Kristi's heart enough to adopt him. I'd guess the boys really like him too. Love stopping in and seeing about all the beauty that surrounds you.

  21. You must have the most amazing collection of glassware Teresa. My suggestion for pussy's name is Billy (or Billie if its a girl) - I love ginger tabbies but I must not let our Madison hear that - she"s a Devon Rex and-she's my baby, albeit a huge one.

  22. That is a fancy jar -- love it. The cat looks very shy. I like cats, but we have a problem in our neighborhood with ferals. They are fed by a neighbor, but they still hunt the birds and chipmunks. I know it's their nature, but I still don't like it!

  23. Love the glass jars and the sweet kitty......how lucky that he found your family to take him in. Well done to your grandson...it looks like a great karate show.
    Happy week dear Teresa!
