Birds, Flowers, Peru and Memorial Day

Hello!  How was your weekend?  We've been taking it easy and enjoying some sunshine.  Kristi took her big camera outside to capture the birds and things as she enjoys spending time on the deck when the weather is fair.  She got this neat shot of a Goldfinch at our feeder.

One of our Simba, our wild cat.  Quite the battle notches in his ear.  He's a scrapper for sure.

We keep a hummingbird nectar feeder up all year as we have some year-round little birds.  This one has unusual ruffled feathers on his neck.  Kristi got these bird photos.

Pretty!

Kristi fell in love with these plants at the beach, so we got a pot of them for her.  It's called Sea Thrift!

Sweet William.. this pot comes back every single year.. no problem.  Love it.

The Rose Campion is in bloom!  It's everywhere.. but you know what?  I don't care.. I love it!

Here it has sprung up in one of our pots.  :-)

Kristi wintered over her unique colored Flowering Maple.  She put it out on the deck and it's blooming nicely.

4th of July Rose.

Thanks for the suggestions on my lace edging on my shawl.  I tried one way and it didn't work, but then tried doing ch 3 loops and that seemed to give it the look I was after.  I might do one more row if the yarn hold out.  But it's near done, yay!

My sister Denise and her husband are in Peru.. they climbed to see Machu Pichu.  She said "I survived Machu Pichu" when she sent me this image.  I'm so  proud of her!

Thanks for all the good wishes on my illness.  It appears that this round of antibiotics are not doing the trick.  I will call the doc tomorrow. Meantime, the show will go on.  The dress rehearsal is tomorrow.  Now they've asked us to sing another song, "This State is Your State" about Oregon.

Now.. I cannot let this day go by without honoring our fallen soldiers this Memorial Day.  My Dad was in the Marines and went in on the first wave at Iwo Jima during WW II.  Dayle served in the Army during the Vietnam War as a helicopter pilot - he was shot while flying and was able to put the copter down with only one leg - the other was shot through the femur and broken.  We're proud of the veterans in our family.  I know almost all of you have a family member who's served your country.  Let's all take a moment to remember them and thank them for keeping us free.  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. Always moving to hear about your dad and Dayle's stories. How wonderful that your sister is at Machu Pichu, it's somewhere I would love to see. Your garden is looking gorgeous as ever. We have a scrappy cat or two around here at the moment. They scream at each other in the middle of the night, and a couple of times I've found piles of fur outside the next day! A battle is underway I think. I hope your throat starts improving soon. CJ xx

  2. Your garden is so pretty no wonder the birds love to visit it. Simba does look like he's been through his share of battles. He is looking good though. Your garden must agree with him. It is frustrating when the medicine does not help and you have to more. I do hope you can get ahead of this illness.

  4. Gosh Teresa was hoping you were going to say you were better. Isn't nature beautiful! Lovely examples in your photos. I wouldn't mess with Simba that's for sure!
I'm sure your shawl will be just right!
Members of my family served their country in both world wars.
Our eldest son Matthew climbed to Machu Pichu when he travelled South America for six months after graduating. He was 25 then. He was at uni for five years and then had to do a year working. Then did 6months work in Australia, travelled for six months then had to come back to work and sit more exams.
Hope you feel much better soon Teresa. I am still really struggling with this cough:-( Hugs x

  5. Have you and Kristi ever thought of submitting some of your wonderful photos to Birds and Blooms or other magazines, Teresa? Thanks for letting us enjoy them! Cheers for Denise! That looks like it was an amazing trek. We are thankful for the service of Dayle and others for the cause of peace, too! I am still praying you will be well soon! xxxxxxxxxx

  6. Wow! Those bird photos are simply stunning. I agree with Gracie that they and the flower photos you two take should be published somewhere, somehow. I was so hopeful that you would be feeling better by now. Maybe you need a z-pack. It always seems to do the trick for me on the rare occasions that I get an antibiotic. Today is always a difficult one for me since I live so far away from where our loved ones are buried. But, a niece visited the graves for us and posted photos on Facebook which helps a bit. I am so grateful for all of the Veterans in your family, mine and every other veteran who have served our country.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  7. Sweet birds. So hard to capture hummingbirds It wasn't until last summer at a community garden in Colorado that I actually saw some sit still but didn't have my big girl camera with me. :( That flowering maple is so unusual. The blooms look like Fall leaves. Anything that volunteers to grow in my pots is welcome to do so. I always water pots where plants have died and something always sprouts up. How awesome to hike Machu Pichu. Peru must be pretty amazing! My dad and mom were both in the Marines ... that's how they met. Sorry to hear you are still not well. It took me 3 weeks to get over my scratchy, burning throat and cough. I never went to the doctor or took any medicine. Always prefer to heal on my own if I can. Hope you get some relief soon.

  8. Those photos are amazing, Kristi should enter a contest because she would win. So sorry you are calling the doctor yet again because you are still not feeling well, seems like curing a cold should be an easy thing in this day and age. We hung out this weekend and ha Max at the emergency vet last night, bless his furry heart.
    Hugs,
    Meredith

  10. Do you know if he's neutered? I get sooooo many calls for kittens outside from feral cats. I can help you with finding a Feral Trap neuter return group . It is so sad to know the kittens usually die an agonizing death from ferals.

Anyhow, off my soapbox. I Love your flowers!

  11. I truly enjoyed your post today. Your garden is beautiful and Kristi's camera work is fanatic. God Bless all the men and women that have and do fight for our freedom, we own them so much.
    Have a lovely week.
    Connie :)
P.S. I bought a kayak and I'm so looking forward to my maiden voyage. Which could be paddling around in circles . . . this is all new to me, LOL.

  13. We have many veterans in our family. So important to take time and remember their service to our country.

I thought of you today while I was buying a lilac. Can't wait to plant it tomorrow!

  14. Goodness, you and Kristi are both brilliant photographers - I particularly love that first photo of the goldfinch. Of course I like the one of Simba too - he certainly looks like he gets out there with the other Toms at night - look at that ear !! Your shawl looks lovely and I hope you're feeling better now so that you can enjoy your 'show'. xox
