The Slow Lane

Hello my friends... how was your week?  Any big weekend plans?  I had to cancel my normal life for the week while I try to work through a cold, flu, lurgy, near death experience. OK, I exaggerate.  But no swimming, no volunteering.. coff coff.. bleh.  I will live.  Hopefully.  I sat on the deck under the gazebo and watched the world from there.  My little white Calla Lily sent up it's one bloom.  I do find these flowers so sculptural.

The surprise Peony I bought turned out to be a classic pink.  I'm happy with it.

Our waterfall pump went out and I ordered a new one on Amazon.. it should arrive today.  Meanwhile our son, who took a week off of work at the Cookie Factory (Nabisco - you can thank him for your Oreos, Ritz, Wheat Thins, Chips Ahoy, Chicken in a Biscuit and Premium Saltines) to take care of Kristi, post op, (how long of a run-on sentence can I make?) is cleaning our creek, waterfalls and pond.

See our good son there working away?  He's using his ShopVac to vacuum out the mud and debris.

The flower below is a "volunteer" from last year.. it's in a basket under our dining room window.. this one branch was growing flat up against the window trim, I thought it was kind of fun.  I'm not sure what this is.. do you know?

While I was sitting outside I looked up at the sun coming through the new basket of Geraniums.. the picture doesn't do this justice as the petals were glowing so beautifully.

Up on the other side of the pond the Beauty Bush is in bloom.  It used to be huge and impressive and then a big limb broke and dropped on it and now it's small and struggling.. I do hope it carries on. I just googled it and it's from China!

Kristi snapped this shot of a hummingbird visiting the herb plant over by the chicken coop.

Kristi's foot was numb for quite a long time and now it's worn off and she said it's quite painful.  But she's being well-taken care of.  Me too.  The girls are convalescing here and the guys are on duty.  At least I've been keeping my email from piling up.. :-)  I hope you have a wonderful weekend.  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. Life just outside the "Convalescent Home" is beautiful as you show it, Teresa, but I am sorry about the pain and misery that you girls are contending with...may you be well soon! My back muscle is still complaining a bit, but I am walking, and exercising it gently, just not swimming yet. I don't know the name of your mystery flower, but it is pretty and reminds me of the Hollyhocks I want to grow :) I love the color of your classic pink Peony. Mary Kathrine says our Peonies should be in bloom soon...she and I love them. Cheers for Travis and Dayle and the boys for taking care of you girls so well. I hope you all have a good weekend, too! xxxxxxxxxx

  4. You get a lot of credit for blogging with the flu! Sounds like you and Kristi are well cared for and on the mend. Thank goodness for helpers! Your flowers look so beautiful...being able to sit out amongst all that will surely make you feel better. We'll probably hang out at home over the weekend...I'm hosting my bunco group of 12 for dinner this coming week and then we're on an Alaskan cruise soon after. It will be busy! Take care, and stay cool!

  5. I'm sorry to hear you've still got the crud Teresa. I hope it soon starts to get better for you. Brad, Mandy and Piper all have it too. They've been really sick all week. I hope Kristi's foot gets to feeling better soon too. She's so busy all of the time, I'm guessing it's not easy for her to stay down. It looks like the guys are keeping busy around the homestead with the water and then taking care of their "girls".
As usual your flower photos are gorgeous. I have no idea what your mystery plant is, but that's no surprise, I'm horrible at flower names. :-). Feel better soon sweet Teresa.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  8. WOW! It sounds like you are really sick. You and Kristie. I hope you both feel better soon. Your pond is beautiful! It must be restful/peaceful to sit out there!
I am off a week from work with foot problems. Kept giving out on me. Now have to rest it and have rehab. So far I only have toi be off a week. Rehab for at least two weeks. Nothing serious. Your flowers are beautiful! At least now I can say that we have some in bloom. But we do have a frost warning for tomorrow night! We never know what May will bring. I am so glad that the men are capable of taking good care you both too.

  9. I was at Margie's Blooms earlier this week and bought a couple of plants. One was a Nemesia and the other Angelonia. I thought your plant might be one of them but the leaves are different as is the actual flower. They are the same size though...
I hope the Kasner Convalescent home recovers soon.

  19. Gosh, Teresa, I hope you're feeling better by now. My kids both have a similar illness right now. I hate that they're sick right as school is ending, but we're doing our best to keep up and not miss out too much. I hope Kristi is up and about soon, it's good that you have all those helpful men around. :)
