Baby Hats, Birthday Girl and the Moon

I made a hat and booties for my niece's baby shower, then I realized that her friend just had a baby girl and would be at the party, so I made a hat for her.  Then a young man that works for the US Forest Service at Multnomah Falls is having a baby girl next month, so... I made a third hat!  All girls!  I love working in pinks and purples!

When I was working on these three hats I tweaked my pattern here and there.  So, I'll add the updated pattern at the bottom of this post.

Hat #3!

It's our daughter-in-law Kristi's birthday today!  I am going to bake a cake for her and we're taking her to dinner at the Columbia Gorge Hotel.  But we'll have to celebrate in a few days as my husband, son and I are off to go look at a boat this afternoon.  *H*A*P*P*Y* * *B*I*R*T*H*D*A*Y*!*!*!* Kristi!

The flower above is Kristi's Dahlia.  Below is our back door and the windows of our dining room.  We have lots of flowers on the deck to enjoy from our dining table each night at dinner.

I am happy to report that the sun has returned and is here to stay for several days.  The aroma of Jasmine fills the air and the sound of the waterfall into the pond makes spending time on the deck a summer delight.

Kristi was outside last evening and let me know that the moon was full and bright, so I grabbed my big Lumix and stepped out to capture the moon.

OK.. I better pack up some things for the trip.. I hope your week is going well.  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

Baby Hat With Shells for Newborn - by Teresa Kasner

Row 1: Make a magic circle, ch 1 in circle, 8 sc, sl st to first sc, (8 stitches

Row 2: Ch 2, dc into same stitch, 2 dc in each stitch around, sl st to top of first ch 2 (16 dc)

Row 3: dc into same stitch, 2 dc around, sl st into first ch 2 (32 stitches).

Row 4: Ch 2, 2 dc into NEXT stitch, *dc in next, 2dc in next* around, sl st into first ch 2. (48 st)

NOW.. skip 1 st, 3 dc into next st, sk st, sc into next st, sk st and 3 dc shell, just keep going around in continuous shell rounds until you have 10 rows or the hat seems the right size.. do last shell at the point where you see the "row joins" of the crown. I ended with a half double crochet and a single crochet and finish off. Weave in end. (10, 11 or 12 rows of shells to get to the size you want)

Flower for Hat

Magic circle, ch 1, 8 sc around, join, finish off, add another color, slip st into first stitch, ch 2, do 1 dc, 1 triple crochet, 1 dc, ch 2, sl st into same stitch – do flowers petal in each chain space- 7 or 8 petals, whichever works out. Leave long tail when done to sew flower on hat on side - halfway between true side and true front.

  5. Love all your little girl pretties, Teresa. I, too, love pinks and purples. We were at a water park on Sunday, and there was this one little girl who had the prettiest swimsuit on, and it was all shades of pinks and purples. :) Happy Birthday to Kristi!! :D

It must be lovely sitting at your dining room table looking out on those beautiful flowers. You and Kristi sure do have green thumbs. Probably Dayle too !! xox
