Sister's Holiday Luncheon

Hello my friends!  I hope your holiday times are going well.  We're enjoying them around the farm here!  Dayle and I came home the other day to THIS.. Kristi bought a new coat for Buddy and put it on and surprised us.  Awww.. isn't he cute?  He's waiting for my sisters Denise and Roberta and honorary sister Shirley to arrive for our annual Christmas luncheon that I host each year.  :-)

Our Chef Dayle made a roast beef for us!  Also potatoes and carrots.  Shirley brought broccoli salad, Roberta brought sparkling cider and Denise made Panna Cotta for dessert!

Everyone enjoyed lunch.

Dayle tried a new recipe we saw on the Food channel done by Trisha Yearwood.  Here is the link.  It makes the most wonderful gravy.  Dayle added fresh mushrooms to the gravy at my request and it was a wonderful addition.  He put sliced mushrooms down into the liquid of the roast about a half hour before it was done and it was perfectly divine.

Oh my goodness.. it was a meal fit for royalty!  We all yum yummed and chatted and had a wonderful time.

The fire was crackling away while we retired to the living room and exchanged fun gifts.. I gave the girls some hand quilted little stockings with one of my crocheted ornaments inside.  :-)

Eldest sister Roberta found this fun vintage candle holder in a thrift store for me and I adore it!!  I can't wait to stick some candles in it and light it up.

Denise gave me this cool looking Lemon Basil foaming hand soap for the kitchen, fun!

Shirley gave each of us this cool vase with red tulips and she hand collected the greens in the bouquet.. isn't this gorgeous!?

Kristi surprised me with this adorable Buddy paw print ornament!  I love this!

After awhile we gathered again at the dining table where Denise served us her homemade Panna Cotta.  She had pureed strawberries on top.  What a perfect finish.. it was delicious!!

She said it's easy to make, with heavy cream, sugar and gelatin.  I'll get the recipe if you would like to try it.

Dayle surprised me with a dozen red roses, also.  :-)

I just love the table decorated for the holiday season.  :-)

In other news.. Kristi got a new coat to keep her warm for the winter.. it's a winter camouflage pattern.  I didn't see the photo bomber until I looked at this photo online.  :-)

I painted these little houses many years ago and have them in the dining room window sills all year.  But I especially love them during the holidays.  In fact, I had more wooden house blanks made last week so I could paint more of these.  :-)  First I need to buy some new paints once I can drive safely on the road, which so far I can't.. I've had to cancel two holiday lunch engagements due to the road conditions.  :-(

Dayle sprinkled some bird seed on the deck for the hungry birds and they've been dining with relish.  Our pond and waterfalls keep them in fresh water.

My sister just texted me the recipe for the Panna Cotta - let me know if you try it and like it!

And so.. we're enjoying our holidays and I hope you are doing the same.  Are you all set or do you need to do a few more things like I do?  :-)  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. Looks like lots of fun, lovely company and lots of good food. The beef looked delicious, I do so wish I lived near enough to come over and taste it. You were blessed with some lovely gifts too, wonderful. I am already, just enjoying each moment and storing up the memories. Take care.

  2. Santa Buddy is very handsome and your home is so welcoming for your family, sister's lunch, and us peeking in thanks to this good post :) Kristi's coat looks perfect for this weather we are having. I ventured outside with my hiking sticks yesterday to take photos of the girlies sledding. Today Hayley is planning to work on a snowman. She says we have a carrot for the nose. I am having visions of making Denise's dessert with coconut milk instead of cream...I'll let you know if I succeed. Thanks for sharing the recipe, photos of the gift giving, the lovely red roses, the sweet houses...Buddy's paw ornament... and photos of the luscious dinner that Chef Dayle and all made...a Merry Christmas celebration! xxxxxxxx

  3. Such fun! I missed having our luncheon this year but I'm really glad that you were still able to have your sister lunch. The gifts were all very nice and that lunch! Oh my! Dayle outdid himself on the roast and everything else looks delicious. I hope you're staying warm and cozy with all of the snow and ice. It's SO cold here right now. -5F on our deck this morning. I haven't gone outside for two days now. No new preparations here but cozy and happy at home.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  4. Hi Teresa, your luncheon looks like a very nice time with the ladies. Your food looks delicious, especially that roast and the panna cotta. What a lovely feast for all of you. I love Buddy's jacket, how adorable! We saw the tiniest poodle today in Costco wearing a Santa jacket. I hope you're faring well in the snow there; I saw the Oregon storm in the news and thought of you. Take care and have a good weekend.

  6. I'm mostly set. My gift-wrapping kids left home which left me the option of tossing items into gift bags willy nilly (kidding, I think). All the gifts are assembled in piles on the dining room table with one last gift to mail. Sunday, I plan to see where I go with making biscotti and coconut macaroons and then a neighborhood party at 3? maybe it was 2pm.
If I have time, I will sew a few fabric wrappers for some little gifts that need a bit of pizazz. I don't push it as I know Monday (and possibly my last 12 hour work day) comes too soon.
I go for my christmas time acupuncture tomorrow and that really helps with my energy levels.

((of course, we still do not have a tree yet, so that will throw my plans awry.))

Still some ice in Canby, but most of the roads are passable with caution. A note to any of your readers: if you do get a snowplow through, remember to shovel the egress to your mailbox if your mail carrier delivers via a postal vehicle. Thanks!

  8. It is always fun visiting your blog. Never a dull moment. Don't let Kristi go wandering through the woods . . . if she gets lost no one would ever be able to find her :)

  9. Hello Teresa you seemed quite well prepared for the holidays. I was doing ok but today I woke up feeling unwell :-( lot of coughs and colds etc going around. I have had some good days though so can't complain. Just hope I can finish everything and be ready for family on Christmas Day. Buddy looks so cute and I love Kristi's coat.
What a delicious lunch you all had and such lovely presents, well done everyone. Hugs Anne x

  10. Oh my gosh Teresa. I LOVE seeing your home. The flowers, the gifts the ladies, and family. So festive. I have stockings to stuff and cooking to do. That roast and plate of food looks amazing. I find it so difficult to be good and count points during December. we went to a neighborhood party last night and My dinner there was a glass of wine and 5 cookies. Hardly healthy! I'll try to post more holiday photos from our woods house soon. Zach arrives stomorrow!!!

  12. I absolutely adore your posts at this time of year. Everything is so festive looking and each pic could easily be something you'd use on the front of a Christmas card. Gorgeous !!! Being a dog lover, I think the Buddy ornament is beautiful. Is the number 12 his age or does it represent December? Your little wooden houses are so cute too. You have amazing talent Teresa and I love it that we're cyber friends. Xox

  13. What a fun sister lunch! I'm full from an early dinner but it all looked delicious to me! We were with our family at OMSI today. The roads weren't bad which is a good thing....no ice on I-5. I need to wrap gifts now and make a pie for Phil's birthday tomorrow! The candlabra is lovely! I like Kristi's new coat. Stay warm and safe! Hopefully the worst of the storm is over! Happy weekend!

  16. I'm reading this before breakfast and my tummy is now growling loudly! That meal looks wonderful, especially with the cheery red tablecloth behind it. What a lovely tradition and what beautiful gifts you all exchanged.

Just read your last post too - ice is very scary, isn't it? And power shortages in winter are no joke. We had one the other morning - when the temps were below zero - and were very relieved when it turned out to last only half an hour.

Hope you have a very merry Christmas!

  18. YOur ladies lunch looked wonderful. I am so glad you have a special relationship with all. "three" of your sisters. Buddy looks adorable. I am not sure there is a coat big enough for Max. Well it is 85 here today and humid so no coat needed. Happy Holidays Teresa.
