Hello my friends! I volunteered at Multnomah Falls yesterday with my friend Shirley. Carl, my fellow volunteer and newly elected President of the Friends of Multnomah Falls, was volunteering on the morning shift and he took these photos and shared them with me. The walk up to the falls is closed due to all the snow and ice on the walkway. The yellow police tape did not stop people, however. :-( Most of the ice has melted but there is still a lot there. In fact the parking lot was only half open, the other half was piled with snow.
What a winter we've had!
Talk about a treacherous walk.. these people have all climbed over the closure signs.
I wore my Women's March pink Pussyhat to LA Fitness to swim on Wednesday and as I was walking out, this lovely young woman said.. "I like your hat!" I said.. thank you, you're the first person who has said that! She said.. I marched in the Women's March in Washington DC! We were both walking out so we began to chat and we agreed on how we are amazed at what is going on in our government. I gave her my email address and she promised to send me some photos from the march. And she did!! Meet Natalie Fung! She was so inspired by the march and is galvanized to work towards protecting the rights of women AND men and children and everyone who will suffer at the moves being made now by our new president and his band of billionaire buddies.
I am also not going to sit silently by - I have donated to Planned Parenthood and to Elizabeth Warren and am going to contact my Senators and Congress-people and let them know I want them to stand up for our rights. Did you know that as many as 40,000 people could die per year if the Affordable Care Act is abolished which currently covers 32 million Americans? America should be moving towards health care for all instead of what is happening now at the hands of the new administration.
Republicans have quietly laid the foundation to GIVE AWAY American's birthright, 640 MILLION acres of public lands. Learn more HERE.

And if this doesn't tell you how worried people are.. I don't know what will. Thank you so much, Natalie!!
And now my public service announcements are over.. LOL.. Dayle surprised me with this bouquet of Valentine flowers!
And I got this sparkly cool decoration at Michael's the other day, isn't it neat?
I'm off to swim with Gracie. Have a wonderful weekend! Do you have any fun plans? ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
You have given me a lot of homework in this post, Teresa :) I watched CSPAN last night and was interested in the different perspectives shared, and really was impressed with the British Prime Minister's speech. I also was impressed by the information and attitude of the scientists who tried to express rational concerns about how we live in the world. We are responsible for how we live and I am grateful to live where we have the freedom to express how we care about the blessings and problems we see around us, and work to make life better for all. Your flowers from your love are so pretty, as are the sparkly hearts, and I'm glad Simba has Kristi and your family to care for him. See you soon! xxxxxxx
ReplyDeleteHi Theresa, I understand your worries, I'm thankful for all the people who are standing up right now. Did you see what our Dutch minister did in answer to the gag rule: https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2017/jan/25/netherlands-trump-gag-rule-international-safe-abortion-fund
ReplyDeleteand on a lighter note, did you see this? https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ELD2AwFN9Nc&feature=youtu.be (the Netherlands welcome Trump in his own words)
Have a good weekend!
Thank you. The youtube video was fantastic.
DeleteMultnomah Falls is looking beautiful right now. I don't think I've ever seen that much snow and ice on it before though. Liking your sparkly heart and your flowers from Dale. Poor Simba I hope he's doing better very soon. This awful weather has been so hard on so many animals and people. Stay warm and no falls.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Betsy
I am so glad you got to know this wonderful woman Teresa. This has been a tough week for the environment, women's reproductive issues, scientists and their very important data, the thoughts that torture is okay, the thoughts that many of our sacred lands will be given away, and of course healthcare. It is all so depressing and how people can hide their heads and not pay attention is beyond me.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen a picture of your falls like this before .... all that ice makes it look rather scary. No doubt about that Dayle .. he's a keeper!! Are those Carnations? Very pretty, as is that heart you bought. Poor Simba - he doesn't look all that great at the moment but hopefully with Kristi's care he'll be back to his normal handsome self soon. Have a lovely weekend. Xox
ReplyDeleteLovely to visit you as usual π I agree with everything you say about That Big Bully. Still can't quite believe it happened.
ReplyDeleteOn a lighter note though I love your heart decoration , it would look lovely hanging in a window. Have a lovely weekend,
Jillxo
Don't forget about the billionaire buddies trying to sell off the profitable parts of the postal service. The groundwork has been going on for over ten years.
ReplyDeleteYou have really good sharing. Your sensitivity to social responsibility pleased me. I congratulate you. We are people and we are for each other. Every goodness done in the world is reflected as a smile to the whole world. All the negativities on us leave us. It suits us to smile. Hi and love ...
ReplyDeleteYep, we have to resist herr trumpf. I believe that the ACLU is going to be a strong ally in our fight and I'm contributing to them. I also believe that the leaks from the WH will continue and grow as deplorable donny continues to implode. The information coming out is scaring even some of trumpf's supporters.
ReplyDeleteWe need to keep the pressure up with calls to the Capitol switchboard (202-224-3121). Our Oregon Senators are already against herr trumpf, but calling ryan and mcconnell's offices to let them know that we are fighting against them can only help.
I'm retired as well, and I call every day! Sometimes it's hard to get through but that's because we're filling their voicemail boxes. It's my "new job"...
Thanks for continuing to fight and post!
Hi Teresa, my mother-in-law and I attend the march in D.C. It was amazing. We met two lovely ladies from Memphis, TN. They rode a bus all night to attend the march. Instead of focusing on the number of people attending his idiotic inauguration why doesn't he focus on the enormous crowd of people worried sick about his agenda? It is absolutely insane, and don't even get me started on "Alterate Facts!" I know it will be an uphill battle but I firmly believe every little thing we can do to help support a change will make a difference. Lisa
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how people will risk the chance of falling when there's signs at the beginning of Multnomah Falls to stay out! No fault but their own if they fall. Thanks for sharing the very cold photos of the falls. We've thawed here and only have seen snow on Mt Hood this week as I drive through town. I need to pull out valentines' day decor as well. It's coming up soon and so is my birthday. January was a hard month for me and am looking forward to moving through my brokenness into a better path. Have a good weekend!
ReplyDeleteI am amazed how many people ignore signs, we had the same thing here with a tidal wave. I am not bothering with the Valentines dΓ©cor this year, who knows where we will be. I am saddened by what is happening in your Country, praying for a peaceful world. Take care.
ReplyDeleteI thought we were the only area with ice pack under the snowyness.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that you wore your hat, and put it on your header here. BIg hugs in this difficult disturbing time.
Weekend plans: hibernation, movie watching and one walk outside ON THE LAKE. Im going to stick right close to the shore...as IN a foot away. But I get to walk on frozen water. It is very cold, so I may not last long. ALSO: Knit plans! Knitting on a fun sock with Dee's pattern. Working down the stash. Hugs Teresa
Thank you for sharing all those terrific photos. And thanks especially for the valuable links. I remain astonished at the willingness of the republicans (nope--won't even capitalize it) to throw their own country under the bus. What is it going to take?
ReplyDeleteGreat post Teresa. I am glad that people are standing up what is happening. Anne x
