Repopulating the Earth

Well.. at least the pond and the chicken house.  :-)  I was so sad to lose our big huge koi during the horrible winter we had.  They were like family.  My granddaughters Jenna and Paige picked them out and named them before they moved far FAR away to Ohio.  Losing the fish brought back to me that I also lost my beloved granddaughters.. at least in the way of getting to see them all the time and being a part of their day to day life.  Now I only get to see them once a year.  ::sigh::  Anyway.. one has to move on.. doesn't one?  We were out running errands yesterday so I swung into the pet store to see what koi they had in stock.  We bought two for now, see the two orange, black and speckled?  They are now in our pond.  :-) We'll take the boys to the pet store to pick out their very own.. and name them.

We floated them in their bags of water in the pond for an hour then let them out to start exploring their new home.  I'm sure they will enjoy this pond way more than an aquarium.

Here is the pond all cleaned up and running happily.  It's a stream which has three waterfalls and the pond at the bottom.

It really looks so pretty and clean after it's "bath".

We have several varieties of Hosta in the garden and they are beginning to come up.. I just love how they come up like they do.

Up on the next terrace is this patch.

Dayle got this Buddha while he was in the Army in 1968 or so.  I love how he's aged while bringing us peace and harmony in the garden.  :-)  I think he needs a real necklace.. what do you think?

When we put in the "water feature" we went a little nuts buying garden sculptures to populate our new garden re-do.  Dayle picked out this Chinese Warrior.. I think of him as protecting our garden, he stands guard at the top of the stream.

I picked out this lovely art nouveau lady who leans against a wall as she contemplates life while enjoying the babbling of the waterfalls.  I bought this "Blue Fountain Bamboo" back when we had the houseboat and enjoyed it on the deck there.

Our last garden sculpture, a Chinese Pagoda lantern we found at Dayle's parent's house right before it was sold when they passed on.  It brings a touch of his parents to the garden which is nice.. it even lights up at night.

Funny thing is I also had this pot of chives on the houseboat and it lives on!  Plants amaze me.  Hayden, our 9 year old grandson, picked some for our dinner the other night.  :-)

Dayle surprised me with this Stargazer Lily the other day, it looks so nice on the dining table with my Easter tablescape.  :-)

Dayle is working on getting the new chicken house set up so we can do a switch-o-change-o and take out the old one and move in the new one with as little confusion for our 2 older hens.  And I can't wait to introduce the 9 new chicks to the flock.  See how big they're getting?  Peep peep PEEP!

I'm off to swim with Gracie in a while.. what are you up to today?  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. I love that buddha too, he's aged beautifully and he looks very at home there. Hostas are gorgeous, alas I have too many snails here and they end up with just the leaf spines left. Such pretty new fish, no doubt they will love being in your pond. I had a hard day of taking the younger two boys shopping, aaagh! They decompressed after the horror of it all at the skatepark. Hope you enjoyed your swim. CJ xx

  3. It's cold and rainy here today. I ran a lot of errands this morning and now I'm huddled In a blanket knitting this afternoon. I'm so happy you got new fish to put in your pond. I enjoyed the tour of the garden and all of the sculptures. You know I understand your frustration of having your granddaughters so far away. I feel the same. Enjoy your swim with Gracie and give each other hugs for me. I miss you both. Blessings, Betsy

  4. Your pond and surrounds look wonderful! Fun to have new fish--and chicks. My chives survived the winter, too. They must be super hardy. We haven't gotten started on any new plants, so far. We have a trip planned to sunny California yet this month and then will get busy putting a new retaining wall with landscaping in the backyard. Happy Easter-Bunny!

  6. How sad that you only get to see the girls once a year. I hope you get to chat on the phone or Skype often! That beautiful art deco lady in your garden is just the one I would have chosen. She is so beautiful! So lovely to see signs of Spring in your garden!

  11. Your bamboo looks like it's a clumper. Can I sneak by (finally) and grab a bit? I have a place. Glad you found some new koi to play with.

  12. Those hostas are very cool how they burst forth like that. Nature is pretty darn amazing. Love all your garden features. I can't believe you've had that Buddha for nearly 50 years. For sure the koi will be much happier in a natural environment than any old aquarium. Have a good day!

  14. I'm glad you finally got more koi. Sad that they died but this winter has been so cold. Amazing but it gives us something to talk about. I like hostas as well. I actually have two of them. Can't wait til they appear again.
