Beaded Bracelet and Wild Black Cherries

Do you recognize this bracelet?  I gave it to my blog friend Gracie a few years ago as a gift.  After a time of her wearing it full-time, the 49 strand stainless steel beading wire broke.  I re-strung it and added two really cool sterling silver owl beads that my blog friend Meredith had gifted to me - along with a whole collection of wonderful beads and findings she had decided she no longer needed and so sent them to me.  :-D  Gracie wanted to switch out the owls so I offered to remove them so a 3rd stringing was necessary.  This bracelet is getting quite a story surrounding it!  It has pearls and gemstones such as amethyst, garnet, turquoise, chalcedony and peridot.

So I got out my crazy messy bead work box and got started with the re-stringing.  I removed the owl beads and replaced them with 4 gorgeous sterling silver beads from Meredith's collection.  I had broken 1 strand of my 2 strand turquoise bracelet and had meant to re-string the 2nd strand but decided to just wear it with the one strand for now.  But I think I will re-string the 2nd one as I like the 2 strand look.  See the flame stitch needle case that I peyote stitch beaded?  Oh.. and the sequin and bead decorated Easter egg I need to add a pin to the back of.. some day.  LOL!

I think I'm somewhat obsessed with bracelets.  Here is Gracie's on my wrist.  To it's left is a peyote stitch bracelet I made years ago.  My glass bead bracelet from the 4Ocean group and far left is a Byzantine bracelet I got last year but never showed you.  Do you wear bracelets and if so.. what kind?  Do share!

We all went out to dinner last night at a little independent place called Ristorante Pompello - and upon returning Kristi told me about a cherry tree covered in little black cherries and I saw them as we pulled in the driveway.  So, I took my iPhone and walked back to take a photo.  I also ate some.  These are tiny and black and the tree is covered with them.  I'd never noticed them before!  I tried one and it was tart.  I believe this is another wild "bird" cherry tree but I didn't know there was a variety with black cherries.  Have you ever heard of such a thing?

Kristi has been picking them.  I wonder what we could use them for?  They are pretty tart but the juice is an amazing color.

Look how loaded the tree is!

Walking back to the house I snapped a photo of my Scentsation rose, isn't it pretty?

Later in the evening I enjoyed some time on the deck and seeing the clouds swirling in the sky above.

Later still my darling grandson Caleb came in and informed me that I needed to bring my camera out as the moon was full and right in plain view.  Well.. those boys know me well.  Here is my almost full moon.

Dayle in his favorite spot.. on the deck by the pond and waterfalls.  Feeding the koi and guess what?  Seems the dogs like a few nibbles of koi food.  What?

Would you believe that our electricity went out last night?  It got very windy and chilly last night and 900+ people lost their power in our area.  Dayle had to shuffle to get the generator powered up so we could run power to my CPAP breathing machine.  I have sleep apnea - and all three of my children have it.. so it's obviously hereditary.  My mom had it.  Luckily the power came back on after a few hours.  So.. I'm off to swim.  What are you up to today?  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. That rose is always so beautiful. Lovely cherries. You could cook them with sugar and eat them over Greek yoghurt. It makes the yoghurt taste like cream - absolutely delicious. We have a couple of sour morello cherry trees here, but as you say, they're nowhere near as dark as that. Lovely bracelets, I really like the turquoise and peridot, especially the shape of the turquoise beads. I love bracelets too, I wear some silver ones with things dangling on them, a beaded white one and a dark purple macrame one. I'd really like to learn how to make macrame ones, but I fear it will be have to be added to the list of things to be done one day! Hope you had a good swim. It's hot here (well, by our standards anyway) so we're eating salad and ice-cream and I've been watering the plants in pots. There's been a bit of cricket and dog walking too. CJ xx

  2. How fun to have a koi pond; I wear bracelets too, of many styles. Lots of them are beaded. Those cherries are sure pretty. Owls are noble birds and I don't think they are unlucky, just have to stick up for them :)

  3. Hello Teresa. Seem to have missed quite a few of your posts. I did think though that I had left a couple of comments that don't appear to be there , maybe I forgot to 'publish' lol
The bracelets are very pretty. I do wear bracelets I will have to photograph and share with you.
Love the finished attic - bet the boys love it as well. Hugs Anne x

  4. Dear Teresa, let me start by saying that I enjoy your blog tremendously. The black cherries are great for cherry preserve. If interested shoot me an email and I will translate and send you the recipe. There are two types of black cherries that I know of from my old country. One type the fruits are way smaller than normal cherries and are bitter sweet. I haven't found this type in Michigan, maybe there is somewhere else in the US. The other type are the sour cherries. We have plenty of these in Michigan. Best, D.

  5. Gracie's bracelet is beautiful. I always wear a trio of thin silver bangles and in the summer, a turquoise bracelet my step mum gave me (it's my birth stone). My favourite bracelet is one my Mum left me, but I need to find someone to repair it. Your Scentsation rose is amazing. I had one by the same name, but sadly it died this year. It was pale pink, nothing like the stunner you have.

  6. I have, over the past twenty years had various kinds of sour cherry trees. They make wonderful pies, they are wonderful dried...I use them in granola, trail mix, and fruit cakes. They make a wonderful syrup. We like it on pancakes. They can also be frozen for use later. Lovely looking cherries for sure.

  8. So neat to see your lovely bead work, Teresa. Your bracelets are lovely. I wear bracelets quite often, except when working in the garden as they get in the way. We worked outside this morning as we have a break in the heat and humidity. I thought of you this evening when I heard about the fires out west on the news. Since you didn't mention it I pray you are safe. ♥

  10. I would like to start by thinking your for your sweet comment on my blog today Teresa. I sure miss you and Gracie, my friend. I cut my hair about two months ago when I could no longer hold the hair dryer up long enough to dry it because of my back. I must admit that I’m loving it like this. :-)
The bracelet for Gracie is gorgeous. All of my favorite color gems together. It is sweet of you to restring them and share Mere’s beads.
Love the rose and the cherries!!!! That’s a LOT of cherries. Good jam and pie ahead for your family. We had lotof wind today. It was pushing my little car all over the highway earlier today. Have a lovely week and enjoy the sunshine.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  11. Those cherries will make great jam. Here is Saskatchewan we can only grow very tart cherries and they make the best jam. You can google "prairie cherry jam recipe" to get good recipes. Yum!

  12. Those cherries look wonderful. I saw a recipe last weekend on the Food Network, on Valerie Bertinelli's show. She made a sour cherry galette. You should be able to find it with google. It wouldn't use up many of your cherries but looked delicious!
Your bracelet is so pretty! I used to make a lot of them and sell at holiday craft shows. My favorites are sterling wire-worked but haven't done that in a while. The last bracelet I made was a wrap style in crocheted nylon cord with beads. Love your moon photo!!

  13. Pick those cherries and dry them! Or, stuff them into the freezer until you decide to make jam or preserves.

  14. Beautiful bracelets. They are all gorgeous. I had never heard that owls are a bad omen! I do wear bracelets. Today I have 3 pearl bracelets on and a gold ID bracelet that was my aunt's. It has her name (Ellen - which is my middle name) and was given to her by my parents when they got married.

Those cherries look luscious! Cherry juice is supposed to be very good for arthritis and other joint problems. Cherry jam would be so good!!

What a beautiful shot of the moon Teresa! I think it's full tonight or tomorrow night?

  15. Teresa so very glad you have a generator. !!!! Phew.
I love that you are known for your photos and blog life. My family helps me too to find cool images for my blog. I love my bracelet tattoo. I always feel like I am bejeweled

  16. Very sweet of you to do all that beading. I've never heard that owls are ominous in any way. I bought a necklace last month at an antique store in Colorado that has two cute little owls on it. And have a blog friend who collects them. I'm sure those cherries would make some great jam.

  17. You are such a wonderful friend Teresa! Gracie's bracelet is beautiful. You could make cherry jam with your sour cherries, it will taste lovely. My dad really liked sour cherries cooked in sugar. I think CJ mentioned to eat these with yogurt, a lovely idea.

I am waiting for the first of three flights to travel homewards... I am glad there are sockets to plug in my laptop so I can enjoy reading a few blogs x

  18. I am glad the beads are still giving you joy. I love the bracelet you made Gracie, and by the way I love Owls! We woke up on Saturday morning to no electricity in our area and it stayed off til after noon. No reason why, it was a crystal clear day.

  19. Such gorgeous bracelets Teresa's. My that tree is so laden with cherries, it's a shame they weren't sweet. Lovely moon shots and I'm glad the power is back on. Hugs xxx

  21. Beautiful beading projects.

I'm not sure that those tart cherries are the same ones they use in juice, but if they are, they are VERY good for easing the aches and pains of arthritis. Or you could sweeten them up a bit and use them in pie.

  22. Thanks so much for all the beauty you share in your posts, for the beautiful bracelet, and your beautiful friendship. Have you picked a recipe to make with your cherries? So fun to see the dogs enjoying their treats from Dayle :-). XX
