Lake Erie and Marblehead Lighthouse

Hello! I'm coming to you from 3000 miles from where I usually am.  :-)  I flew out of Oregon on Tuesday at noon, this is a photo from my iPhone of Mt. Hood, taken by the flight attendant from the galley window.  :-)

I was surprised when the FA laid a linen cloth over my table and brought me this salmon salad. I was flying Delta airlines. It was delicious and healthy and even had an apple tart with a big strawberry and my iced cranberry juice was in a real glass!

So the first leg of my journey went well, but then the pilot announced that we'd left late waiting for passengers and we might not make our connecting flight! I used the Delta App and was actually able to change to a slightly later flight using my iPhone and the Wifi I'd paid to use while flying.  We landed in Detroit MI and the next plane was literally a mile away, but I made it.  Sheesh. Here we are coming into Dayton, Ohio.  My daughter and granddaughters greeted me at baggage claim. HUGS!  But my checked bag had gone on to Cincinnati - we were able to get it on our way to Lake Erie the next day.

My wonderful girls had grown so much in the two years since I'd seen them. I love them dearly.

Funny story.. my daughter trusted her GPS to get us the 3 hour drive North to Lake Erie and we found ourselves amongst corn fields, barns and the farm lands of Ohio. We're taking a more civilized route back to her home today.  LOL!

We found our hotel, got settled in and Amy ordered and picked up a pizza for us all to share from across the street. A good nights rest for us all.  Yesterday we headed out to see Lake Erie and the Marblehead Lighthouse.  Isn't it beautiful?

Jenna and Paige!

If you click on this photo you might be able to read the history of the lake.

The girls.  :-)

A kind lady offered to take one of all of us.. she did a nice job!

The light-keeper's house.

The girl's took off their shoes and scampered down to wade in the lake in the sand.

I loved the detail of the window in the lighthouse.

I stepped into the lighthouse to snap a photo of the old iron spiral staircase to the top.

Kind of neat, huh?

We then drove along the lakeshore and happened upon this 2nd darling beacon, the Port Clinton Light Station.

It's small but so cute.

We decided to have a meal here at Jolly Roger's Seafood House - a fun and popular place for locally caught Perch, a string of which you can see on the wall here.

It was good.. my first meal of Perch that I know of.  :-)

After dinner we decided to sightsee along the shore and when making a turn around a block accidentally discovered this incredible old mansion!

There was even an antique cast iron hitching post out front, you can see it in the bottom right of this photo.  I would love to live in a house like this.  :-)

Soon we will pack up and head off for another day of adventure, then head back to my daughter's home.  On Sunday is the day we pick up the PUPPY!  My next post should have some furry fotos.  Have a great weekend!  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  11. I LOVED reading this post Teresa - the places are beautiful and I can almost hear the joy you are experiencing. Your girls have grown so much haven't they? Beautiful too. It was interesting seeing the prices on the blackboard at the place where you had your perch feast. Can't get over your $1.99 for a cup of coffee. Costs us around 4-5 dollars here in Australia. I'm looking forward to the furry fotos on Sunday. xox

  12. Such a beautiful lighthouse and whilst I loved the spiral staircase I am not sure I would want to walk up it LOL! You are blessed with beautiful girls, how lovely to be able to spend some quality time with them. That certainly was impressive aeroplane food.
