Greetings from the Oregon Coast. We're here for five days to celebrate Dayle's birthday. This is the view from our hotel room. We're in Newport, Oregon. We had sunny days for a few weeks but won't see much sun this week, but that's okay with me. We're here for the serenity and to see the Pacific Ocean. Grey skies are soothing, actually. :-)
There is a volleyball net outside our room, and horse shoe pits, also a bonfire fire-pit. But the Summer is over and it's all quiet out there, except for those who take their dogs for walks and the occasional passerby.
The biggest decision we have to make for the day is where to head off for an adventure and where to have our lunch and dinner. We have coffee and a muffin in our room for breakfast. Ahh.. the life of retired folk. I highly recommend it. :-) We've seen this diner for years but never tried it, but yesterday we did. It's open 24 hours a day and serves breakfast all day, right up Dayle's alley. My sister Denise came down on Monday too and spent one night so we all three had breakfast together.
What a fun place, it was decorated for Halloween and is family owned and operated. We'll definitely be returning.
Our dinner on Monday was at Georgie's Grill and Denise and I had the crab louie and I had some of their wonderful clam chowder. There is a wonderful view from this place.
Dungeness crab is delicious!
After our lunch yesterday we headed out for a drive, first stop was to try to find a house that my Mom and stepfather Danny rented while he was working as a railroad engineer and Denise lived there with them for about 6 months and attended school there. We did find it and it was fun to see where they lived, I was in Hawaii at the time and had never seen it. Then we drove on South on the coast Hwy 101 and went all the way down to Waldport and had a look around.
We also pulled in to our favorite little place where we had found lots of agates many years ago, but the tide was way in so no agates would be found. But Dayle did take Buddy out for a bit of a walk.
The birthday boy and his dog.
While driving through Waldport we spied a flea market and these goats were on a table outside. So on the way back through town we pulled over and Denise and I had a look and went inside to browse around. I fell in love with the smaller one, it's actually life-size of a pygmy goat! And guess what? Dayle bought it for me! :-) I will find just the right place on the farm for it.
When we came back to Newport we drove through the bay front and Denise got this photo of the Yaquina Bay Bridge with the Coast Guard ship heading out to sea.
Then down to the fishing boat yard where the crabbers keep their crab pots. I find them so colorful.
The different colors of the floats help the crabbers to identify their pots. Denise headed out after our day together and got home safely. Today we'll head out to see what we can see, probably the Yaquina Head Lighthouse for one. Tomorrow is Dayle's birthday so we're saving our favorite restaurant for then. :-) We return home on Friday.
Speaking of home, the Pin Oak is turning more red, I do hope it's totally red when we get home and the leaves will have not blown away.
I love this tree, it's huge.
We brought Buddy's own bed for him and he's enjoying being at the beach, too. New smells and other dogs to bark at. LOL!
Well.. off we go to see what we can see. It's fun to have no idea of what we'll do today. Thank you for visit and I hope your week is going well. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
Looks like you’re having a great time. Those grey skies look very moody with the colourful lobster pots. Hope Dayle has a good birthday. B x

It’s a new sort of adventure for you at a hotel instead of your cozy caravan isn’t it? It looks like you’re having a wonderful yime. I don’t remember seeing that diner on our last visit but I think we’ll have to look for it. Have fun and Happy, Happy Birthday to Dayle.
