Keeping it Real

Just so you know it's not all puppies and pretty crochet around here.. :-)  Case in point - we had to get a new septic system installed as the old one had deteriorated.  How's that for real?  We had contractors lay out a proposed drain field, they dug soil test pits, which the county had approve and they got the permits to proceed.  The work began on Monday, and today the inspectors returned to approve the installation.

Our old pump-out location was in the middle of our driveway, it will now be in the middle of our horseshoe shaped driveway for easier access, the tank will be 3 times bigger than the old one.

It's been freezing weather the whole time and it's snowing right now, I feel sorry for the crew doing the work.  They had to dig up where there was a nice patch of Snowdrops.  :-(

I wonder how long it will take for all these scars to recover?  Ugh.  Below is our pasture were they are laying the drain-field pipes.

With the driveway dug up I had to park my car near the road and tiptoe around the pit as I headed to the car, hoping I would not fall in.. :-O  Do you see our little Mocha the Cairn Terrier inspecting the hole?

She was very interesting in all the goings-on.  We had dump trucks, excavators and work trucks and a big flatbed trailer in the yard for the last 3 days.  So.. there you go.. the real dirt.. :-)

Speaking of Mocha.. she has become a beloved member of our family.  Here she is on Dayle's lap.

And on my lap while I work on my laptop computer.  She is at the vet today getting spayed.  Poor Dayle had to deliver her there at 7 am.  We're like two nervous nellies waiting for this to get over with so we can pick her up and bring her home and nurse her back to health.  I hope nothing goes wrong.  Eek.

So.. that's our day.. dirt and being nervous about our darling dog.  What are YOU up to?
((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. What a necessary pain in the neck to have the ground all dug up, etc. Hope this system lasts you a long, long time!. Love seeing that "Mocha is a beloved member of the family." It was meant to be!

  2. The real deal. Sometimes real life happens and there’s nothing you can do about it. I just feel bad for all those scars that are being left on your beautiful farm. Hopefully when spring finally arrives it will all be grown over and looking fine. Sweet little Mocha. Praying all goes well for her and that you soon have her back home where she belongs. We’re supposed to get snow here tonight. Hopefully it will be the last for the year.

    Blessings, Betsy

  3. This is the process Lis and Gary will be going through on their property near Carver in a few weeks. They have had the major electrical work done and all the floors are being worked on. I think the well is being serviced this week. I went to our baby blanket making group this morning and have been watching snow pile up on the grass here at home this afternoon although the road is still ok. Praying Mocha heals rapidly and that your new septic system works well. Love to you and yours xxxxxxx

  4. Sending you and Mocha hugs. I know she'll be well looked after and loved. I hope all goes well with the installation and that the coming warmer months provide lots of greenery to cover the scar. xx Susan

  6. Real life for sure! Megan has her car in shop for repair. Good thing she was able to use their loaner car! Gets it back tomorrow and hope she won't need another one too soon....always something for her! We had to replace a few things already this year. Maybe a new dishwasher soon too? Will see!!! Hope Mocha is ok! Hope all things go well for your new septic system installation!!! Hugs!!! Stay warm!!!

  8. Huge hugs for Mocha. I hope she is home now and getting lots of kisses and cuddles.
No snow here just endless rain and strong winds so no outside jobs getting done. I'm so looking forward to some drier and warmer weather now.
    Hugs-x-

  9. Oh gosh, I remember we had a septic system at our house when we first moved in. Luckily sewers were installed not too much later. We never had any problems, but hoo-boy! Our neighbors sure did.

  10. Life has a way of getting real now and then. I hate when it does!
Loads of prayers for a complete and quick recovery for wee Mocha. Our Hamish was neutered two months ago and never had to wear the dreaded cone of shame.
Time to get out a new crochet or knitting project.

  11. Hope Mocha is home safe and well. She is a darling. hate having work done- especially when it 'spoils' other areas. Sure everything will recover though. This week has been cold, wet and windy. A huge contrast to how it was a couple of weeks ago. Hugs Anne x #14

  12. Oh Teresa! I helped at the shelter in the operating room with spays and nutters for 7 years. The only animals that had serious trouble were tiny kittens and puppies that had a previous respiratory infection. But older puppies and kittens, never a problem. I know you'll snuggle her to bits. She will be in pain. There are lots of layers of internal stitches. IT is much more complicated than castration
