Crafty Endeavors by the Fireside

Our weekend plans didn't play out as I'd planned.  But the first one did, we were invited to visit our older son Shawn's new home for the first time.  We followed google maps directions and found it.  :-)  It's a 15 year old home in a nice neighborhood and we enjoyed a look-about and a nice long visit.  On Saturday I had wanted to go to an event at the Gresham Historical Society - a man created some amazing miniatures and a big house to put them in.  But it was a cold day and I had no one to go with me and I couldn't bear to leave the fireside.  On Sunday I was to go visit my sister's grave with her husband Teddy and sister Denise but it was raining hard and we decided to postpone the visit for a drier day.

I thought I'd share with you the earrings I made to wear during the Autumn harvest time.  I cut two narrow strips of tanned buckskin and using the peyote stitch method and Indian corn colored seed beads.  These are fun to wear.

Do you read Alicia Paulson's blog Posie Gets Cozy?  If not, you should check it out.  She's an amazing woman and artist.  She just brought out a new doll kit and mine arrived on Saturday.  I look forward to many pleasant hours hand-stitching the doll together and sewing her clothes for her.  You can choose the skin and hair color, I got the light skin and auburn hair.  She reminds me of my little sister.

I also ordered this dress kit which also has an apron on which I will embroider flowers and will try to knit the lacy socks.  I might have to make some little leather Mary Jane shoes for her, too.  :-)

This was me over the weekend, working on my 2nd Dune blanket designed by Lucy at Attic24 blog.  My cuddly little Cairn Terrier Mocha sleeping on my left thigh while I crocheted by the fire.

I wore my Mexican Opal ring for a while and took a photo to show you - I made this while taking jewelry classes at Mt. Hood Community College in my younger years.  What is special about this is I bought the stone from my friend Loa who was a gem dealer and world traveler.  We met when I lived in Hawaii and reconnected when I lived in Louisiana and she invited me to come to New Orleans for Mardi Gras and stay with her parents while there.

I got Mocha a new red bone and she is obsessed with it.  She holds it between her two front paws and chews on it.  Sometimes I'll walk into the family room and there is the bone, standing on end.  :-)

I had to share a photo of the dinner we had after we left our son's house.  Bumpers Grill is our favorite steak place.  Yum.

How did your weekend go?  Do share.
((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. Boy does that dinner look delicious! I enjoy seeing the jewelry you have fashioned, Teresa. The corn earrings are darling and the Mexican opal is beautiful. October is my birth month, so this ring really intrigues me. What a lovely stone! And of course Mocha is such a cutie pie.

  2. Hello, I have been reading your blog for a while and I so enjoy it. I had to reply on this one as I am awaiting my doll and dress kit too. They are so lovely I just had to have one and I told myself it was a birthday present to myself (Birthday October when we preordered). I live in London Ontario Canada so it is taking a little longer to arrive. I am tracking it and it has left Vancouver so I am hoping I will get it this week. I quilt, knit and I have made stuffed animals so I am really looking forward to working on it. I also bought the kitty pattern too. Again, thank you for writing a delightful blog. Mocha is such a cutie. Sincerely, Marion Shaw

  3. How nice that you got to visit your son and see his new home. Sorry that your other weekend plans didn't go as you had hoped. I follow Pozy Gets Cozy but I've never purchased any of her doll kits. You are right that she is very talented.

  4. Even though your weekend was not all you planned, it was lovely to see/read about. I enjoyed visits/texting folks locally and as far away as CA this past weekend. ((hugs)), Gracie :-)

  5. It was a gray weekend wasn't it? And it really hasn't brightened up over this way. I'm still down with the crud. I've slept 2-3 hours a night for the past several night because of coughing. I'm SO tired.
Your weekend looks like it was just perfect. I think we ate at Bumpers one time with Mandy but I'm not postive...maybe I've just read about it on your blog before and thats why it seems famiiar. :-)
Your pretty new blanket is coming along beautifully and I know you'll have a great time with Alicia's new kits.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  7. Those corn earrings are just FUN Teresa! You have to show pictures of your Posie Doll as you make her. I enjoy hand sewing, but I think that would be way too fiddly for me - lol.

  8. Those earrings are adorable Teresa - genius design! And your fire opal ring is lovely. I wish you could visit the bead shop where I work and see the amazing rock collection there. It would be fun to compare projects too.

Mocha looks so cozy on your knee. What is the yarn you're using for the blanket? It's beautiful.

It's been very chilly here too, and damp, and I've taken hardly any walks. I don't mind the cold so much, but walking in freezing drizzle isn't much fun. Hope we both get some better weather soon. :)

  9. Your earrings are wonderful Teresa and so is that ring. Last weekend it was chilly here and rained all Sunday. I love that kind of weather because it is so rare here. I stayed in most of the day. Mocha is so adorable. Hope you are having a wonderful weekend.
