Cinnamon Rolls and More Flowers

The Bleeding Heart is looking lovely.  I used to have a white one, hmmm.. I might need to get one again.

Mother nature sure did design a pretty flower!

This comes up through a heavy cover of creeping Myrtle every year without fail.

The Lilacs are almost ready to cut for a bouquet.

This is the Dark Purple French Lilac.  Such long clusters!

The White Double Lilac is almost ready to cut.

The gray speckled Koi is our most skittish and rarely comes out of the "cave".  Help me name him.. Smoky?  Stormy?  Your ideas are welcome!

Chef Dayle made a pan of cinnamon rolls on Sunday afternoon.  I found the recipe on the King Arthur website.  The name is "Cinna Bun" as they tried to emulate the Cinnabon recipe.  The brown stuff on the counter is the cinnamon sugar excess that fell out of the rolls.  :-)  Full disclosure, I cropped Dayle's hair out of the photo as it's gotten long AND he is experimenting with growing out his beard.  I just ordered a battery operated hair clipper on Amazon as it looks like I might become his barber.  :-)

This is the pan of rolls after being baked but it was too hot to put the frosting on - Dayle thinks they don't look good enough for a photo, but they are delish!  Our large jar of cinnamon seems to have been tossed by my organizer husband, I had bought a small jar of cinnamon from Penzeys Spice Co. and it only came up to 2 1/2 TBS,  - the recipe called for 3 TBS so he found a jar of "Cinnamon Plus" by Pampered Chef that I'd gotten years ago.  The PC spice has cinnamon, allspice, orange peel, nutmeg, cloves and ginger and added a wonderful extra punch to these rolls.  Apparently PC no longer sells the Cinnamon Plus so you can find recipes online to make your own.

Here is the cream cheese frosting - it comes with the recipe for the rolls.  It's delish.

The result of his efforts, oh. my. gosh.  This was divine, especially still warm from the oven!!

Are you hungry yet?  Can you imagine the aroma?  :-)

Kristi gave me a pretty Easter basket last year with several live plants in it.  I repotted the African Violet and it is blooming!  *LOVE*

Kristi also gave me an orchid years ago, it came with dyed blue petals, when it bloomed on it's own, it's pure white with a colorful center.  I'm so happy to actually have an orchid that blooms!

A close look.

We had to run an errand yesterday so Dayle suggested we get a few flowers for our hanging baskets.  I was the "getaway driver" (a friend of mine calls her husband that when he drives her to the grocery store) 🤣 Dayle wore his mask while shopping, kept his distance and sterilized his hands when getting back into the car.

Does anyone know what kind of bird this is?  :-)

The Bluebells from above.

The wild Cherry tree has masses of blossoms on it.

The birds will have lots of wild cherries to eat soon!

So fluffy and pretty.  These photos were taken with my Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ1000 camera - from my deck!

The Hosta is shooting up quickly.

Red Japanese Maple.. love those leaves.

The apple tree buds are opening.  I also got this shot from the deck.. and only saw the little red headed sparrow when I downloaded the image.

Keiko out swimming while the 3 little Koi stay in their cave.

I also got this image of a White Crowned Sparrow while it was drinking and bathing in the upper pond.

Dayle started a bigger fire in the fireplace/pizza oven to season the stove before we cook in it.  Apparently you need to burn off some of the paint before using it for edibles.

I saw lots of what I thought were pine cones on the 75 foot tall Douglas Fir tree.. when I looked at it after downloading it occurred to me that what I thought were cones, were just covers over the new growth of branches/needles!

OK, I need to go out and oversee Dayle as he plants the flowers!!  LOL!!  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. Your photos are beautiful, Teresa! I've never seen the White Crowned Sparrow. He's really pretty. And that one with the furry tail--we have dozens of those! The cinnamon rolls still have my mouth watering--great job, Dayle. Your flowers are gorgeous! I'm so in love with Spring this year. Just what we need.

  3. Oh my gosh Teresa, I remember those incredible baskets you grew last year. They were better than any others that I saw. including in my own tourist town!!!!! We had a little white throated sparrow too over the weekend. So colorful. You know we are cold here, but getting a tad warmer. So our outdoor safety for hanging baskets etc is May 15th. SLOWLY its coming! This year especially, without the barn to go to for volunteering, the woods and landscaping has been non stop. I hope it shows!

  4. Thanks for the beautiful post, Teresa. Your furry "bird" prompted me to smile, and I so admire the White Crowned Sparrow and all the gorgeous flowers and fish, and Dayle's yummy looking Cinna Buns. I have started working on a post...is your Scrabble game still working? ((hugs))

  5. Don't you just love spring with something new everyday. Love your bleeding hearts...have to see if I still have some. And the orchids, mine are reblooming too. So strange that they would have dyed them 'blue' when the white/red is so striking. And lilacs, I don't think mine will flower this year. I planted them in too much shade I think, sigh. Love the post.

  7. That orchid! Oh my! It's gorgeious. All of your flowers always are. We're always told to wait until after mothers day to plant outside so I have a little time to decide what to get, although I am a bit nervous to go to a store anyway.
My daughter-in-law has the cinnabon recipe and it always tasted absolutely wonderful. I always meant to ask her for it, but never did. Dayles look amazing. I can almost smell and taste them.
Have a wonderful Tueday Teresa and hi to Dayle for Dennis.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  9. A lovely trip through your garden. I can almost smell your lilac from here. My lilac bush has decided not to flower this year. Typical really as it’s the first time I’ve been home to properly enjoy it.!
Those cinnamon rolls look just what I need. I would bake them if I had any flour. B x

  10. I have "birds" like that on my feeders too! I think you should name your little koi "Bashful" since it is so shy to come out of the cave. Love to see all of the blooming beauties in your yard. Thanks for sharing!

  12. Such an uplifting post with beautiful images. The lilac was a real delight, I can imagine the smell. I can also imagine the smell of the cinnamon roll which looked delicious and is making me want to eat some. "Speckle" would be my name of choice. Take care.

  14. You certainly have a way with flowers Teresa! They all look marvelous. And those cinnamon buns look delish! I would let Dayle grow his hair long (I've always loved a guy in long hair...hippie days).

  15. That's a really hairy little bird :-)
I wouldn't mind a cinnamon bun for my breakfast (but we are low on flour). Happy gardening!

  16. Lovely photos and those cinnamon buns look delicious. I love your orchid and would love to know the secret of keeping them alive as mine died after flowering. I'm hoping to get one for Mother's Day again but my failure to keep it alive might rule out another living gift!!

  17. That squirrel is so cute! We don't get them here in Australia and I remembered chasing some through a park in York, England when I first saw a real one. LOL! Those cinnamon rolls look divine, I may have to look up the recipe and turn it into a home schooling project to make with the kids. xx Susan
