I wait all year for our Lilac trees to bloom! And that time is now. Yesterday Dayle took the pruner and cut 3 varieties of Lilac for my big bouquet on the dining room table.
A few years ago I found this fabulous tablecloth, it's Ralph Lauren and it's printed with Lilacs! But could I find it for the table? No! It was not in the china cabinet base, not in the pantry, not in the Hoosier.. argh! Finally, yesterday I looked in a bin in our bedroom (yes, I need to deal with it) of things I was not sure what to do with.. please tell me you have something like that.. and I dug down and put a bunch of stuff on our bed and what did I find halfway down? THE TABLECLOTH! I was so pleased to lay it across the table in readiness.. for.. the bouquet!
Dark purple, old fashioned lilac and white ones. Swoon. Love.
Which is your favorite of the colors?
I had ordered some seeds that my daughter recommended and yesterday I planted some of them in this empty flower container. I keep looking to see if any have sprouted! LOL! I have ordered some plant markers for the garden, too.
Dayle snapped some photos of the raised bed after some rain.
He tried the wide angle lens.. fun!
Little lettuces! I fear we did jump the gun to plant the tomato and lettuces as we had a long run of warm sunny weather, but now it's chilly, grey and wet. :-(
Grow, you little suckers! :-)
He snapped a photo of these 3 lilacs, 3 colors, too.
The dark purple French Lilac.. it's magnificent.
Facebook Memories had this photo from 7 years ago on my feed. What a wonderful grandpa! We miss seeing the boys.
OK, we're off to run a few errands. I will show you something neat on my Monday blog post. Have a fabulous weekend, do fun things, bake something. Sending love your way!!
((hugs)), Teresa :-)
Love the Lilacs. I have one Lilac bush with a lot of blossoms on it. Hasn't bloomed quite yet. Any day now...enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteI love lilacs and can almost smell your bouquet from here in Illinois! I grew up in Lombard, IL which is known as Lilac Town and features the famous Lilacia Park - filled with many different varieties of lilacs. Lilacs bring back so many wonderful memories for me and I have just one lilac bush in my yard. Nothing better than smelling that sweet scent. Thanks so much for reminding me! Love your tablecloth, too. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI adore lilacs too, especially the pale purples ones but they never last long enough. The smell. It's heavenly. Our old house had a huge lilac tree. We haven't had any here and I still miss them after 18 years.
ReplyDeleteI hope you and Dayle have a wonderful weekend. Rain tomorrow for here but better on Sunday.
Blessings,
Betsy
Love those lilacs and purple is my favourite colour. Enjoy your birthday weekend and yes we all miss our grandies.....although I can see the baby one currently. Baking cookies and eating way to much here lol But at least we are well and happy and grateful. Today is Anzac day and thank them all and will never forget them xoxo
ReplyDeleteI love seeing the lovely photos of your garden. The lilacs against the lilac tablecloth look so pretty. I'm sure you and Dayle are missing your grandsons. It's tough not to be able to spend time with the grandchildren. I made your sweet and sour meatball recipe tonight and it turned out great. Thank you! Stay safe. Pat ❇️🌷❇️
ReplyDeleteDayle gathered a lovely bouquet of lilacs for you! Thanks for sharing them with us. I can relate to your eagerness to see your seeds grow. April 6th I planted the last of a little packet of Sweet Basil seeds I had in three little pots. I carefully watered the soil and brought the pots inside every night for a week. One day after taking the pots out in the sunshine a gust of wind came across the patio and toppled two of the flower pots that now have no sprouts, but one pot now has about a dozen tiny inch tall plants. Very exciting! I hope you have a Happy Birthday celebration tomorrow and in the days beyond! 💞🤗
ReplyDeleteI love lilacs. Always reminds me of my Nana, she used to sing "We'll gather lilacs in the Spring, again" to me. I must cut some for the house. No baking here, can't get flour! Oh, well. It'll stop me baking cakes and biscuits anyway. lol. xx
ReplyDeleteYour lilacs are beautiful! We have been pottering in the garden and we're still enjoying a long run of sunny weather. It might be nice, but we desperately need some rain. We have only planted potatoes and onions so far. Best, Jane x
ReplyDeleteSending love right back. It was a joy to see the lilac I loved all three colours, I just so wish I could smell it, but I can imagine it. The table cloth was beautiful and went so well with the bouquet. Take care and stay safe,
ReplyDeleteDark purple...
ReplyDeleteI love all colours of lilac. My own tiny lilac flowers white but it is not ready yet. Such a beautiful table, very festive.
ReplyDeleteYou know Lilacs are my favorite, I would swap you out some for my gardenias if I had any left. My yard guy trimmed all my bushes and trimmed them all off on Wednesday! Really this happens every year and makes me so angry. Love your flowers and table cloth. Stay safe Teresa.
ReplyDeleteYou have the most lovely lilacs, Teresa! Mine did not bloom last year, so I pruned them heavily. I know it will help them in the years to come. They were my grandmothers so I hope they will recover. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteYour table always looks so pretty and inviting. Mine is currently acting as my husband’s working from home office. I’m still working full time in the nursery at a childcare centre and we are heading into winter. A lot of us are worried about our health and would rather be at home. Your lilacs are gorgeous, too hard to pick a favourite but I do love the purple. I’d love to plant a lilac tree or three and have some lilac flowers on the table in spring. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home. Jennie xx
ReplyDeleteYour lilacs are beautiful! I love them too but ours are just starting to bud so it will be a while before I have one of those fragrant bouquets on my dining room table!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous lilacs, the dark one is particularly stunning. I haven't got any in my garden, but I know where there are a handful on common land, so I often take a few blooms for the table. Just saw that it was your birthday yesterday, I hope you had a wonderful day, despite the lockdown etc. Sending you a belated hug, CJ xx
ReplyDeleteYour big bunch of lilacs looks so pretty with your lovely lilac tablecloth! I love ALL the colours!! Ours are just beginning to open here. Love the picture of Dayle and your grandsons...so sweet. I miss my little grandchildren a lot too....otherwise I don't really mind being at home! I've planted lots of seeds in pots and trays in the greenhouse and like you am impatient for them to grow! Some are quite quick and some are incredibly slow! I'd almost given up on some ever germinating when I suddenly spied some tiny shoots! Enjoy your gardening and your pretty crochet flowers and keep well my friend XXX
ReplyDeleteJust popping back to wish you Happy Birthday today (April 26!) I saw you mention it on another blog. Have a wonderful day and Best wishes for a healthy, happy year! Love your blog, Teresa!
ReplyDeletei can smell those lilacs from here. Stay safe you two. CN x
ReplyDeleteOoooh, those lilacs are incredible and the colors are gorgeous! Lilacs and peonies are my favorite flowers and growing up in Chicago we had both in our backyard. Now living in the Las Vegas desert, sadly they do not grow here and how I miss them! Thanks for sharing and I will live vicariously through your amazing flowers! Thanks for sharing and be safe!
ReplyDeletePat F.
Oh I love lilacs! I don't have room for one in my yard. But I'm super envious of yours!
