Sunflowers, Fairy Lamp and Pond Haircut

We are so lucky to live in a rural area and even more so as a local woman raises and sells these gorgeous sunflowers each summer.

The lovely gardener and her roadside stand.  She was out refilling the buckets when we stopped to buy our bouquet for $5!

A photo of the flowers on our dining table at dusk, I put them in my beloved vintage glass pickle jar.

I so enjoy seeing these flowers, they make me happy.

I clicked on the Facebook Marketplace - it's like a virtual estate sale or car boot sale - and saw this very pretty fairy lamp and fell in love with it.  I texted the owner and being that we were going to be out running a few errands we included a jaunt to her house where she brought this out and handed it to me in the car while I handed her the $$ - both of us masked.  It's a Westmoreland Glass and this one is called the Thumbprint or Irish Waterford design.

Here it is with a tea-light candle lit inside in the evening.

I brought it over to my little table to enjoy in the evening.

Yesterday Dayle decided to attack the jungle of creeping myrtle around the pond, it had grown down into the water and was rooting there!  Dayle put Mocha down in the rocking chair next to me and she happily watched him bush whacking.

I fed the fish and did some pond skimming as the detritus flowed down to the pond as he chopped.

She jumped down and was snooping around the water.  She seems to be fine with the fish.. Buddy used to bark at them incessantly.

At first he was cutting the vines with a pruner and then got the idea to use the battery operated hedge trimmer.

This man of mine is nothing if not determined.  He worked his way up the pond and streams cutting and stacking up piles of vines and back down the other side.  See, the rocks are becoming exposed once again.

See him in the jungle back there?

He gathered up huge bunches of the vines and then cut them with the hedge trimmer.

I put more rows in my lantern.

I went off pattern and made a bigger one, using a similar design to the one top center.  I'm onto the lower part now so it won't be long until I can hang this up, I think I will try it in the gazebo.

That was our weekend.. what did you do over yours?  I hope you have a wonderful week ahead.  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  2. You and Dayle made a lot of good progress around the farm this past weekend! I admire the bunch of sunflowers you brought home, the pond haircut, your new light and the way your colorful lantern is shaping up. Do you plan to hang the lantern over a light bulb? My weekend flew by with the activities I listed in my last comment and today I visited the post office where I wore a mask as did others. The first bloom on my Sweet Pea vines is opening! :) ((hugs))

  3. Dayle's amazing. i got a bit frightened seeing him lying down with the trimmers ...I would have cut some fingers off. Clearly he knows what he is doing.
That lantern is magical. I love it.
AND your lanterns are the best!!!! I hope you make a whole bunch of them. They are so so cute.

Mocha, dear dog. You love your Dayle!!!!

  4. You had a great find on FB marketplace. I sold our patio table and chairs on there last week. It's the only thing we sold as none of our friends needed one. I had scads of people contacting me about it, even after I marked it sold!
Dayle sure is a busy guy. He was definitely determined to get those weeds taken care of. Mocha wanted to make sure he was okay.
Your lantern is beautiful. How will it light up? It sure is made with fun colors.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  8. WOW your Dayle is a hard worker! What a beautiful pond and the lovely little waterfall. It must be so wonderful to have such a big plot of land. I too love sunflowers. They're so cheery on a dull day. Here the weather has been cool and wet, lots of wind and rain. I love the crochet lanterns! Take care and have fun whatever you are doing. Love, Jane x

  9. It took a big crew to clean up the town's koi pond. I had never seen them do it before and it was fascinating. There is so much work involved. Our neighbors had a small pond put in there front yard but gave up from all the work. Mocha is sweet. I do love a terrier. Araignee
