January can be a bit grey, can't it? So, recently, I came across this photo of a crocheted cat that I'd seen somewhere on the net over the last year and printed it up. I gathered together some new skeins of KnitPicks "Simply Cotton Worsted" I had ordered not long ago and began to make up my pattern as I went along. Here is the result.. Krazy Kat!
Here is a shot of kitty against our new yellow painted wall so you can see the colors with less distraction. I think this would be fun done in self striping variegated yarns, too!
Using a G sized crochet hook, I chained 12 and made 3 sc in the 2nd chain from the end, then sc around -- adding 3 sc at each end until there were 5 rows - then just sc around until the 12th row - where you decrease twice each row at the outer edge - every 4 rows, or on the first row of a new color. I did 4 rows of each color. When he was tall enough, I slip stitched the top closed after stuffing it. I made the ears by chaining 10, then connecting it and sc around for 6 rows, then decrease around to close the ear. I put a little bit of stuffing in the ear to make it stand up. Sew them on, a few button eyes and embroidered nose and mouth... and Voila! Your own kitty! :-) You can never have too many colorful kitties, can you? And it's a great stash buster, as you can use whatever you have around!
While I finished up the kitty, Dayle made some chicken noodle soup for our dinner. Yesterday was so grey!! Today, there is not a cloud in the sky and the house is filled with sunshine!!
Yesterday I met my 2 sisters and friend Shirley for lunch at the Claim Jumper restaurant and then we went on to see a movie - "Silver Linings Playbook". It was a great movie - you really connect with the characters, it shows the inner workings of a guy who is bi-polar and how he tries to pull himself up after a breakdown. If you have a chance to see it, you won't be sorry. The cast is Jennifer Lawrence (from Hunger Games), Bradley Cooper (the Hangover) and Robert DeNiro as his dad. I hope you are having a good day where you are!! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
How cute! I really like the flecky ears and tail. Well done.
ReplyDeleteYour colourful kitty certainly cheered me up Teresa, what fun to see these photos after a freezing cold day here. We have been warned that heavy snow is on it's way tonight...eeek, we hope to get up to London to see a show tomorrow night. At least we are over half way through January now. Keep snug,

The rain has finally stopped and moved away...I was actually looking for my sunglasses for the sun was blinding me today ( I have lived in the dark since Christmas and that's no joke!) but, we are very cold here....a bowl of that delicious soup looks really good about now!

ReplyDeleteGlad you had a good day...today found me searching out pieces of history in Portland with a friend. It was sunny and we caught several nice views of a snow capped Mt Hood. Now if only it was about 20 degrees warmer:)
