Ladies Who Lunch

Gracie, thank you for inviting me to go to the new yarn store and out to lunch yesterday!  I just love getting out and about!  We met at a yarn store which has new owners and I had never been there.  What fun it was!  The store is now owned by a mother and daughter team, it's called Littlelamb and Ewe, in Gresham, Oregon.  It's stuffed full of beautiful yarns, extensive tools - hooks, needles, scissors, etc. and books.  They have a comfy loft where they teach classes.  I am kicking myself that I did not buy this skein of yarn below - I'll go back and get it.  If nothing more than to look at! LOL!
They had many beautifully arranged display cabinets.
Is this yummy or what?
Brilliant!
All cottons on this wall.
It's official, I love yarn that has more than one color in it.
They have lots of finished shawls around the shop and other knitted and crocheted items for inspiration.
I bought a book and Gracie bought some buttons.  Then we walked across the street and found a table at Boccelli's Ristorante for lunch.  We both *loved* our lunches - you got to pick the pasta, the sauce, and the other things on your pasta.  I had farfalle pasta, alfredo sauce with chunks of halibut and asparagus.  YUM!  Gracie had salmon and fresh veggies.
After lunch we walked across the street to check out a new antique shop - I was very impressed with the quality of the merchandise and the prices were reasonable.
My eye was drawn to this platter with a castle.. kind of a funny juxtaposition of the ceramic cowboy boot vase, don't you think?
There were lots of pottery and vintage lace and baskets.  I found 2 things to bring home, I will show you photos later in this post.
Gracie invited me to follow her home for some tea and more visiting - this is her charming living room with a fireplace made of polished stone.  I helped her get started on a shawl like mine - the pattern falls short in many places so I told her what to watch out for.  I had to totally rip mine out twice as the pattern wasn't specific.  She made us a pot of chai tea with coconut!  It was delish!
My treasures from the antique store are a fishing float of green glass from Norway, still with it's jute rope netting!
I also got a pint glass jar with a glass lid with galvanized lid rim.  I got the book from the yarn shop - I saw it on Pammy Sue's blog and noticed it had a pattern for crocheted lace gloves which I'd like to make.
I'll be attending the Oregon State Conference of the Daughters of the American Revolution in May and would love to have these done by then.. but I doubt I will. LOL!
The roses are holding up extremely well.. love love love them.
And look what Dayle brought home for me yesterday?  Isn't he adorable?
And here is the last Stargazer Lily to bloom from the bouquet hubby brought for me on Valentines Day.. over 5 weeks ago!  Amazing, huh?  Hubby snipped off the stamen so the orange pollen wouldn't fall on the lace tablecloth.
What I hope for you is that you take the time to reach out to a friend and ask them to go "play" - and if a friend asks you to do something, say yes.  Your life will be enriched by it. Thank you, Gracie, for a fun day!  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

Hey, I'm making that shawl you mentioned and know what you mean about the vague instructions. I'm almost done now and know there are some things that aren't right but it still looks pretty good.

  4. If you leave right now you might get back for dinner...but, you must... you must return for a skein of that sorbet pink lemonade delight yarn. It looks fabulous and will work up fabulous, I'm sure. What brand? It reminds me of Chroma.

There you go having another delish lunch. What am I doing wrong here. My girl friends only drag me to workout at 7am. or snow shoe in the afternoon. What am I doing wrong here?....lol...

  5. Wow... a fantastic yarn store, lunch AND an antique store? You are one lucky lady! It could have only been improved by a stop at the fabric store ;)

Unfortunately many of our local yarn stores have gone out of business over the last few years. We're down to one that has been around for years (I'm talking over 25) and the owner is a bit of a "crabby" lady so I don't really like to shop there.... sigh. Oh well, I suppose I should be using up some of the yarn I already have!

Thanks for sharing a wonderful day,
    ~Chris

  10. Teresa, are a member of the DAR? I grew up as a member of CAR in NY! I have great memories of CAR conferences and events. My father is an active member of SAR in NY. I was in DAR for a short time as a young adult but was not active in a society. I have also been a member of Daughters of Union Veterans (Civil War). I want to re-enroll in DAR but there aren't any societies in my whole state as far as I know, and definitely no CAR for my kids. How nice to meet another person in Blogland with a similar proud heritage. :)

  11. That yarn is so scrummy-yummy! I "stole" your picture and have it as my desktop background of my laptop now so I can stare at it. Lol. Good luck with the gloves. I hope you do make them in time to wear them in May. That would very very neat, Teresa. You've got to do it!

  13. Now that is my kind of yarn store!!!! What a great idea to store yarn in....a hutch! I will surely keep that idea tuck away somewhere. I am glad you and Gracie had such a lovely day....I recognized her living room right away. Every time she puts a new post up, I am always looking around the room for the blanket I made for her.....I see it peaking there hanging over her beautiful chair. It looks so nice in her home!
    Hugs, Shari!

  14. Fun!!! I'm so jealous. Maybe I'll make it to the Falls in time for lunch with you tomorrow though. Bocelli's is where we're meeting for lunch next Friday isn't it? Now you all know where it is and I'll be driving in circles looking for it! :-). The yarn store looks so cozy and full of goodies and don't even get me started on the antiques. I LOVE antique stores. I may never make it to Mandy's on Friday if I can twist you and Gracie's arms to go shopping. I love her living room too. It's so welcoming and full of love, just like Gracie. See you tomorrow my friend.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  23. Playing with my BFF is my favorite pastime. Lots of giggles and silliness...just like the little girls we once were (ok, we still are, but the shell looks old!). When we go for a few days without a fix of one another, we feel it. Loge the yarns and cottons and all the color. This time of year seems to find me REALLY appreciating color.

I love your photos of the antique store! So much to look at!

    Hugs.

  24. What pretty yarn! I'm always envious of people who knit and crochet. I've tried - and have come to the conclusion that I lack the "knitting gene!"

  27. I like multi-colored yarn, too. I'm just getting ready to start a shawl in pink and orange -- one of the Cascade Paints yarns.
