Bunnies, Chickens & Art

NOTE - My GiveAway post is below this one.  You can comment and be eligible to win until March 10th, this Saturday at Noon, Pacific Standard Time, USA.

I call this photo "Tulip, Up Close and Personal".  :-)
On Sunday I checked craigslist and found someone selling Ameracauna hens, about 6-7 months old.  So, I gave them a call and talked to a nice woman in Redland, about a 40 drive from here.  She gave us directions and we agreed to arrive at 4 pm.  These chickens should lay aqua eggs, but the colors they lay are light green, light blue, pea green and even PINK eggs.  So, this will be fun to see what they lay.  They are not yet laying and are having a bit of a time getting accepted into the "pecking order" of our 4 hens.  I've used names from the last batch of chickens that we lost to coyotes.  Betsy Ross and Bella.  They are on the far right in the photo below.
The poor girls are surrounded in this shot.
At the farm where we got these 2 was this crazy looking Polish Crested rooster!  Isn't he wild looking?
I am having such fun with the game "Draw Something" - I use my iPad and a stylus.  I thought I'd share some of my "works of art".  :-)

A few days ago my red Hibiscus bloomed for the first time this year.. isn't this aMAYzing!!??
I think I need to repot this thing and prune it and fertilize it to repay it for these eye-popping blooms.. :-)
When I got home from my 1 hour swim workout today there was a package waiting for me, my bunny kit from Alicia Paulson!  I look forward to starting this project.
We got to choose from a dozen different dress fabrics with matching yarn - I will be knitting the little shawl for her, too. :-)
Here are the beautiful materials in the kit.  She created a bunny for her little baby daughter and then decided to make kits to sell to her blog readers.
Well, I am plum tuckered out.. so I think I'll crochet on my shawl.  Dayle is making teriyaki chicken with yakisoba noodles and stir fried veggies.  Am I spoiled.. or what?  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. Hi Teresa! Oh the new girls are so pretty. Hopefully, the others will accept them, and all will be well. You have a nice group now. I plan on getting a few more soon. I love my hens!!!
Your Draw Something drawings are amazing!! I need to get a game going with you again. But you kill me every time! The flowers, both the close up of the tulip, and the hibiscus, are gorgeous!

  2. I saw that bunny today while blogging around! It's soooo cute! Have fun making her. That is so nice she makes kits to sell. I have several things going on....one the big blog change, working on my starburst blanket.... almost finished, working on another bunny and today I found some lovely new fabric for another quilt. I think I might give that a go again! Oh, and Dayle is surely spoiling you! Dinner sounds yummy! Enjoy!
    Hugs, Shari

  3. Just like a bunch of women, those hens need to check out your new girls and draw their own conclusions, lol. It isn't easy to be the new kids on the block, ooops, I mean in the hen yard. Your flower is a stunner for sure, so lovely, so bright and what eye-popping color! The kit looks like fun and nice to get it now, getting closer to Easter. Time is flying, will soon be Spring and then Summer. I am so darn tired of Winter, but can't complain, we lucked out and only had 1 bad snowfall.
Have fun with your bunny kit.
    (((HUGS))) Susanne :)

  5. I love your chickens! I hope the new girls settle in with the others. I would really like to have a couple of chickens. Maybe someday we will. I'm excited to see you got a Maggie Rabbit kit. Your dress fabric is the one I would choose too! I was considering ordering one too but I don't know how to knit and the capelet is to be knitted. Maybe I could crochet it instead...

  15. Your "girls" are quite beautiful. I hope the others welcome them quickly and they can settle in their new home. Isn't this a life lesson for all of us? Always welcome newcomers. They can become the best of friends to you!

Your pictures are gorgeous and I can only imagine being able to draw like you do. You have more talent in your little finger than I have in my entire body. :-)

    See you tomorrow my friend!

    Blessings,
    Betsy

  17. What a neat idea she had to put together little kits to make her rabbit. I'm not very clever that way. AND I cannot draw any better than a 5-year old. Never could. I enjoy seeing your drawings because obviously you can. I was thinking about starting another shawl in the Serenity Garden too. I have two colors to choose from in my stash -- rose colors or browns. They are both really pretty. Can't wait to see yours. Glad you were able to replace your chickens!
