Clear Lights or Colors?

Hi there!  How is your week going so far?  I didn't get much decorating done today as I went swimming, Gracie joined me in the pool, then afterwards we went to Craft Warehouse and did some shopping.  So - we did get the tree mostly decorated, I have some white crocheted snowflakes yet to put on - but it's nearly there.  Now.. the new tree we got is quite unusual as the bulbs can be bright white ones....

OR.. with the flip of a switch the bulbs are colored!  I am used to the white ones, the colored ones are fun.. which do you like?  I think the ornaments show up WAY better with the white lights.

I hung up some sparkle-y snowflakes on the dining room light fixture and lit the white pillar candle in my lantern.  I have a LOT more to do!!

I got the things to make some Christmas gifts - I went into Craft Warehouse hoping to find some little wire baskets to make a little yarn basket ornament.. but they did not have anything remotely suitable.  I had to change my project there and got some other things.. I might show you when they're done.  :-)  How are you coming on your decorating for the holidays?  Do you go all out or do you do the minimalism thing?  I like it all.

((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. I like both coloured and white. How about alternating them ? Is that possible. I do agree that the decorations show up better with the white lights. Our decorations went up on the weekend but we're a bit ' low-key' this year. Having family Christmas dinner on 21st as DD2 and her hubby are going away for 2 weeks. I'll be going to DD1s place for Christmas Day. Enjoy the rest of your week. xoxox

  2. Hi Teresa my darling daughter and Daisy have come to stay this week as our SIL has to work in Dubai until Friday. It's wonderful to have them here but I had forgotten how a baby keeps your occupied all day long ;0) My tree decorating will have to wait until the weekend, yours looks wonderful and I prefer the white lights too ;0) xx

  3. Hi Teresa I do think the white lights are nicer for they do show the tree decorations up nicely!!! I do like to go all out, I simply love Christmas but it's quite different down here in the southern atmosphere. One day I would really like to experience a white Christmas!!! It really looks magical!!!! Have a great week!!!

  4. Oh Teresa, I like both colourways - I think I would have white one day then coloured the next! I have never come across a pre lit tree where the colour can be changed, its fab!

Really looking forward to seeing more of you holiday decorating!

  5. Your decorating is coming along great! The tree looks wonderful in white lights or coloured lights. I agree the decorations show better with white lights but that is probably just my bias as I especially like clear lights best. It is nice to have the option isn't it? You don't even have to wait until the next year to change things up! I haven't started my decorating yet but I do the minimal thing. I put up a tree and do up the mantle a bit. Even that is a lot of work for me.

  6. Hi Teresa. I see I missed your previous post too. I love the tree with both the white lights, and the colored lights. How neat to be able to switch it up. I have not done much decorating yet. None inside. The boxes are down, and I will begin tomorrow. I woke up with a wild hair today. Called my Mama, and said I could sure use her help, and she came right out. We spent the entire day moving the furniture completely in my family room, living room, and kitchen! BIG changes. Drew and I did all the lifting. I wouldn't let my Mom lift anything. But she has a magnificent eye, and it really helped to have us both doing this move!!! So tomorrow the decorating will begin, but I am keeping it simple this year.

  7. Your home looks lovely for the Holidays. I think the white lights look better. I always put the white lights on the inside tree and the colored on our outside tree. That's because there are no ornaments on the outside tree....only lights...so the colored look nicer out there. This week is decorating here and next week the baking and candy making starts and all the while the gift making is taking place. Busy, busy, busy!!! ;-D

  8. Teresa, I think the ornaments show up better with the white lights, too, but I am especially fond of the colored lights. We have a lot of decorations up, but I want to go out and cut some greens for a wreath...maybe later today :) I have the Hallmark station on and am watching Loves Christmas Journey at 1:58 am!!!

  9. I think your tree looks beautiful both ways but I really adore colored lights. I think they have an old-fashioned look and I love it. We don't do a lot of decorating, even the tree is relatively sparse, and I think the colored lights add a lot of interest. To answer your question on my blog, I am done decorating! We get it all done in one afternoon, just the tree, seasonal stuff on the dining room table and a few items on the end tables. Then my husband spends another afternoon on the outdoor lights. We used to have much more decorative stuff but we moved so often when we were newly married that we decided to pare it down to save space. Then we had our kids and couldn't put much out while they were very little anyway so we never got more. Maybe someday we'll accumulate some more again.

  10. Hi Teresa! I really like the white lights so you can see the beautiful ornaments, but the colored ones are fun too. I just have a few decorations up since we'll be in "your neck of the woods" for 9 days at Christmas. I'll just enjoy yours when we have lunch. :-)
    Blessings,

  11. Teresa, I love the tree, how fun that you can change the lights. I think odd days should be colored lights and even days white lights. Lion Brand yarn makes these little skeins of yarn called bon bons, I saw a picture on their website of ornaments made from these, just add in little knitting needles or a tiny hook and you have yourself a fun ornament.

  12. I would be so very indecisive when trying to choose between the two. Both are lovely. I was always partial to the white lights, but I know little children always seem to love all the colored ones. The only thing I decorated this year was my front door and my goose. My youngest has her house gutted and has been remodeling for a year now, the oldest has a tree up and we will all just enjoy her tree. I always loved Christmas and still do, but I'll pass on putting up the big tree this year and just settle for one of the small ones I have. I sound a bit like a Scrooge, but it just isn't the same without my guy. Wishing you and yours a beautiful Christmas season.

  13. I like the white lights the best. You can see your pretty ornaments better but the colored ones are also pretty and fun looking! I went all out with making decorations this year. Our tree is up so come see when you have a minute! Hope you and Gracie had a nice swim- I do hope it's a heated pool!

  14. I grew up with colored lights and like them, but for quite awhile now I have really preferred white Christmas lights (although some green ones on a tree really caught my eye the other day). I say ask those cute grandsons of yours and go with whatever they like the best :)
    LOVE the hanging snowflakes!
    Blessings,

  15. Teresa, where did you buy your tree? I want that option some days I feel like a nut some days I don't ..know what I mean? On cozy nights clear color and on cheery nights color! Love it
