A Bit Nervous

Oddly for me I let many photo ops pass me by this weekend.  I will be accompanying my dear husband to the hospital tomorrow and waiting for him while they operate and put in a new knee.  Some background on this.. he was in the Army and flew a helicopter in Vietnam in 1968 where he was shot while flying.  The shot shattered his left thigh bone and it was a miracle that he was able to put the copter down, but he did.  He was medivac-ed out to a hospital ship off the coast, where they managed to save his leg.  He then spent 5 months in traction and spent nearly a year in and out of the hospital.  He lost 1.6 inches in that leg and over the last 46 years, it had become very painful to walk.  So.. tomorrow he will become a bionic man.  The grandsons think that's pretty cool.

Yesterday our older son and his family came to visit and see Dayle before his surgery.  Dayle made Chinese Noodle Casserole for us.  Tonight I thought it would do us all good to get out of the house and go out to dinner to take Dayle's mind off tomorrow.  I think it worked.  We went to a little independent Italian restaurant in Troutdale.  Ristorante Pompello.  Both of us couples had a coupon special - an appetizer, salad, pasta and dessert.  What you see here is the Spumoni ice cream the boys had and they LOVED it.

Dayle and I shared the cheesecake that had pureed strawberries on top.

The restaurant looks out over Troutdale and the railroad, the boys were fascinated by the train when it rumbled by.  I asked the boys what state the blue mountains were out the windows and they learned that it was Washington State and we were in Oregon.  It's fun to teach them things.

I had mentioned in my last post being interested in trying a crochet pattern with little flowers.. I actually found this image while surfing the internet.. and grabbed it to use as a guide for using my new cotton.  I'm sorry to say I'm not sure where I found this image and if it's yours please let me know so I can give you credit for this.  Isn't it pretty?

And so.. I will let you know how it goes tomorrow.  If you want to keep Dayle in your good thoughts, that would be very kind of you.  I hope for you a wonderful week.
((hugs)), Teresa :-)   (NOTE: This is my 600th post!  Wow!  I just noticed that!)

  4. Oh my goodness! That must have been traumatic trying to land a copter after being shot. After coming through that experience ok I'm sure he'll do fine with the knee surgery. I will keep him in my prayers tomorrow and hope that all goes well. I really like the little flowers. Makes me think of Spring. And I really need to think of Spring right now. ;-)

  6. First let me wish Dayle all the very best for his surgery and a quick recovery. I'll be thinking of you all. Great idea going out for dinner and you can tell the boys that we also have Blue Mountains here in Australia. They are west of Sydney (about a 2-3 hrs drive depending on traffic). Everything there is a blue haze and they have something that is quite famous here in Oz ... the Three Sisters (google it) which are three very large rock formations standing next to each other. There is a giant staircase that goes from the top to the bottom near the lookout and also a scenic railway that goes straight down the side. When you get in the little cage thing, you're almost flat on your back so that when it goes down the side you're in a sitting position with the most magnificent views ahead. I love that crochet pattern Teresa - very pretty and should make a beautiful afghan. Big hugs xoxox

  7. What a pretty blanket pattern you found, Teresa! Are you going to start on it tomorrow? I have been and will be praying for successful surgery and rapid healing for Dayle. Dayle, I too thank you for your service to our country, especially as it has been at a high cost to your comfort. I am glad you were able to go out for dinner tonight, and it is especially fun that you were able to enjoy watching the train from the restaurant since trains have been such an important part of your life. Happy 600th posting,Teresa :)
    Love with hugs from Gracie

Perfect for working with your new cotton yarn, btw, which I am in love with! I've seen that pattern before over at http://byhaafner.blogspot.com/2013/02/spring-is-in-air.html. She does beautiful work and there is a link also to the blanket pattern she gives...it's from Red Heart Follow the link to her blog and it will give you the link to the pattern.

  12. You already know that both you and Dayle are in my thoughts and prayers. I think the surgery is going to be a huge success and that his rehabilitation while not easy, will be very productive. He is a healthy, active man which really helps with rehab. It is the people who don't move and have no stamina that rehab is really difficult for. The flower pattern is gorgeous, I love it, the simplicity of it and the colors.
Hugs to you and good luck today.

  16. Much love and good wishes to Dayle, it is terrible watching our loved ones in the run up to surgery but I can tell you that my mother had part of her knee replaced recently and is in far less pain and much more mobile as a result.
I'll be thinking of you both.

  17. Praying for your day. My dear Jake had one knee replacement 3 yrs. ago and it was truly amazing. They get you up and about soon too. He tells everyone "I hurt less the day after my surgery, than I did the day I went in". It has changed his life.

Love those deserts - making my tummy rumble!
That is a very pretty pattern. I see so many designs I find it hard to decide which to do next - have you seen the "As we go stripey blanket"? I love that too http://notyouraveragecrochet.com/as-we-go-stripey-blanket/ and the Nordic shawl http://myrosevalley.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/the-nordic-shawl-pattern.html. So many patterns, so many talented people.

  40. So happy that everything worked out well for Dale. He will be back in full force sooner than he thinks. Good thoughts are going out to him. So often in a situation like this---the caregiver needs as much encouragement as the patient! So, good thoughts are going out to you as well!

  41. Since I am backtracking here I will say once again that I am so glad your hubby made it through his surgery. My guy was a Vietnam vet too and let me ask you to thank your husband for me for his service. So many of our guys carried the wounds of war way past their service days. They all came from good stock, and served their country honorably. I really like that flower pattern. It reminds me of tulips and spring time.
