Hi there! Our yard continues to produce Spring flowers so hopefully Winter won't rear it's ugly head and we can glide right into the fair seasons. The pretty little tulips in bloom in one of my pots opened up yesterday as it was so warm and sunny.
I think I should plant more tulip bulbs!
The Skimmia Japonica is full of fragrant flowers.
We have several blooms open on the Star Magnolia!
The bud pods on this tree are fuzzy and cute.
We have a Quince bush that is hidden behind other shrubs and trees and is right out the windows of our master bedroom. They will be open soon!
And most exciting of all.. the lilacs are budded out! This is one of my two dark purple ones, I have several common lavenders and one double white. Oh the bouquets I will have soon!
And now.. my new basket of yarn for a project that I've wanted to do for a long time now. Colorful "flowers" with a white background. The pattern I'm following is called "Flowers in the Snow" by Solveig from the blog Sols(tr)ikke from Norway. I also want to mention other fellow bloggers that did similar designs and inspired me to start this blanket. Jennifer from Thistlebear blog did a wonderful blanket for her little daughter. And Helen Philipps from the blog of the same name who made a blanket like this with such pretty colors.
My first three squares, I have 3 more centers so I'll add them today. Aren't you excited that for the next year you get to watch as each square is made?? LOL!! Hahaha! :-) I'm using KnitPicks Brava Worsted acrylic. Very squishy and I haven't ever found a "tie" knot in any of the skeins.. I detest that. It's only $2.99 a skein which I think is very reasonable. 218 yards, 100 gram skeins.
Yummy colors, huh? (I hope you didn't notice that I set my hitchhiker scarf aside again.. don't tell.. ok?)
I am joining in Jennifer's Winter Project Link Party on this project. Click this link - Thistlebear Blog to see the other crafter's participating.
I love all the blooming shrubs in your yard. Everyday when I go out, another is bursting forth. Back to rain this weekend - but it's supposed to be 65' today!
ReplyDeleteLove the beautiful array of colours you have chosen for your blanket. It is Mothers Day here in the UK on Sunday, so I am visiting my daughter who isn't able to travel and visit me and spoiling my mum tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteMagnolia and quince, two of my absolute favourites, glorious. A magnolia just down the road is blooming at the moment. But March is cold right now, and I've heard that it will be colder than our mild January and February. No exciting plans this weekend, but that's fine with me, I don't mind staying closer to home. I hope you have a nice peaceful time with plenty of crocheting. CJ xx
ReplyDeleteThe Star Magnolia is especially magnificent, although I enjoyed seeing all your blooms. The little girlies brought in more daffodils for us to enjoy inside. Your Flowers in the Snow blanket is off to a great start. I started to crochet a little baseball cap for a CA friend's new baby, and I need to watch a YouTube video to learn how to do a front post crochet...one plan for the weekend :) xx
ReplyDeleteYou're so lucky to have so many signs of spring so early! Being farther north we're a bit behind but looking forward to daffodils and tulips... and of course lilacs! Hoping to get a decent weather day this weekend to get outside and prune my roses and do more garden clean up.
ReplyDeleteLove your blanket... never learned to crochet (just knit) even though my grandmother and mother both crocheted and didn't knit :)

I love that Star Magnolia!
ReplyDeleteThose colors are so pretty! Don't worry about putting the hitchhiker aside. I say, let the hitchhiker take a hike. If you do what you love, you love what you do!

Absolutely adore the colour of your tulips in those first two pictures. Your garden must look gorgeous and you obviously get heaps of pleasure from it. I'll follow the progress of your blanket with interest - you've chosen gorgeous colours for it. How are you going with your hitchhiker scarf? I'm still plodding along very slowly. Haven't actually touched it for awhile - busy de-cluttering my craft room and trying to get it into a workable set-up. Have fun with your blanket. xox
ReplyDeleteI love the look of all that yarn bundled up and your squares..wish I could crochet:)
ReplyDeleteI thought I had bought Stellata..no..it's pink..tulip shaped and always gets eaten alive:(
The colors in your squares are so lovely.
Love all of the flowers Teresa. We still don't have anything up in our neighborhood, but I see the little red tips of my rhubarb poking throu the dirt. I am in love with the colors for your blanket. I've been drooling over Jennifer's and a few others I've seen online but have absolutely no need for another blanket like that. So I stick to my "plain Jane" ones for charity. I wonder how long I can resist? :-) I hope you have a lovely weekend Teresa. Dennis and I are getting ready to go to breakfast with some friends.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
Beautiful colours both in your garden and you yarn basket. I love the Flowers in the Snow blanket. I made one, too but mine was called Fireworks at Midnight, using the same pattern. It is such an enjoyable pattern. x
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful flowers! I love Spring. The yarn colors you chose are yummy; very "Lucy"! They will make a gorgeous blanket. I have so many project going right now...a blue and white quilt, a hand stitched piece, and card making supplies with a Sizzix Big Shot spread all over the dining room table. Yikes, I'm getting busy this weekend before becoming overwhelmed and not getting anything finished!
ReplyDeleteIt's a really nice project to make near your dear Husband.

ReplyDeleteI love the pretty square. .. and the lovely colours!
Have a great day xx
I love the yarn colours you have chosen. This blanket is going to look amazing! It's almost got me thinking about making another blanket too...
ReplyDeleteYour yard must be every changing one day to the next. My plants are going through hard times right now. Probably because my son didn't water them while we were away 6 days. :( Plus, our weather is kinda icky right now. Dusty, cloudy, muggy. Not sure what it wants to do. Already getting hot so my walks aren't quite as comfortable as they were weeks ago. Your new blanket is gonna be gorgeous. I have many charitable baby blankets in the works right now. Have a good Sunday!
ReplyDeleteHow could you keep going on the Hitchhiker with all of that beautiful yarn to play with? I love the blanket to be.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Meredith

ReplyDeleteHi Teresa, thank you for linking up and for mentioning my FITS blanket too. I think you're going to love making one. It was a nice long project that always felt a little new because I tried to make every flower different. The photos of your real flowers are lovely. I hope you are having a good week so far.
