Greetings! Did you have a good weekend? We had a rainy one! I mean downpours, thunder and all. We found out that having a large metal roof on the gazebo on the deck has brought a new sound to heavy rain and hail.. you can hear it from inside the house and if you open the back door it is quite thunderous. But, it's okay, just something new. I went out just now to take some photos of the Mock Orange bush on the right of the garden shed. It was thankfully not ruined by the heavy rains, although the pink rosebud azalea blossoms were done in.
I tried to sniff the orange blossom aroma but I do believe the rains washed it all away as I couldn't smell anything. Maybe after they dry out it will come back?
After days of grey skies and heavy downpours I am happy to report that the blue in the sky is returning. Thank goodness!
Most of the roses are beat up from the rain but this one bud still is pretty. My Double Delight rose.
I could not be more pleased with the bouquet of Peonies on the dining room table. The grower picked them at just the right time, tight buds, and each flower has opened up into a full blowsy blooms, just gorgeous!
The man who's finishing off the attic had to get a friend to help him hold up the bead board panels while he nailed them up on the attic sloped ceiling.
It's going to be so much nicer up there after this project is finished! A short wall with doors will be along both sides for storage.
I'm having him put plywood flooring over the insulation to extend the flooring, I have no idea why they didn't do it when they built the attic.
And this is the new window! And the view of the barn. I'm so happy to have a window up there! You can see the circular driveway better from this vantage point.
It's rather fun to have a new window and a new view from a 100+ year old house.
I did go swimming on Friday and will be going today. I am meeting Gracie for lunch, I missed seeing her since she is not swimming due to having to dedicate her time to getting her house ready to sell, but I thought... she has to eat, right? What are you up to today? ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
Hope that orange blossom gives off a lovely aroma soon. How great to have new space in your attic with a new window. Bet your grandsons will love it. Thunder and heavy rain here too. B x
ReplyDeleteLove the new window, and what a lovely view it has. I do like a good thunderous downpour, I like being in our top room when it's pouring and listening to the rain on the skylights. Gorgeous flowers, especially the peonies, really beautiful. Nothing much exciting here today, just the usual. Which is good in itself. Hope you had a nice lunch with Gracie. CJ xx
ReplyDeleteI am not sure it is my right to eat but I am grateful to be able to eat out with you 😄. Thanks for sharing all the neat photos of the gorgeous flowers and new view. I feel encouraged as I look at them instead of more boxes and work! Hugs to you and yours 💞🌺💞
ReplyDeleteThe peonies are stunning. Hope the orange Blossom gets its aroma back. My mum had Orange blossom in her bouquet when she married my dad. They married on 20th June. Sadly dad no longer here. I've been pottering at all sorts today. love the window in your attic - what fun. hope you and Gracie enjoyed lunch. Hugs Anne x
ReplyDeleteGrocery shopping, (good times),household chores, cooking, (a request for meatloaf), and some taping accomplished for the staircase/banister. Lots to do!
ReplyDeleteWe sure had a lot of storms with heavy rain, hail and wind this weekend too. We were snuggled in the trailer for most of it and I enjoyed that. Your attic will be beautiful when I shed, especially with the window letting in so much light. Will you use it for storage or another room for living in? Have a wonderful afternoon.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betys
Hello to you and Gracie shame blog does not allow reply back to you like before. At least I can email you xo Lovely pics of gorgeous flowers and I sure love the window up in the attic, big envy here xoxo
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the rain as well as take care. Beautiful to see the flowers!
ReplyDeleteNew window looks good! Storage project looks good:)
The flowers were a delight, hopefully the smell will reappear on the Orange blossom. How lovely to have a window and such a beautiful view.
ReplyDeleteThe Mock Orange here is just flowering but has less petals on each flower I think.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about a new view, when we had an extension built on the side of our last home we suddenly had a view out of the front gate and across fields which we hadn't had before
Hi Teresa, you have the most lovely home and gardens. Those flowers are so beautiful. I'm excited to see the finished attic as I'm sure it will be so nice. Say hi to Gracie from me and I hope your week is going well. Pat 💮🌺🌸
ReplyDeleteI love the sound of rain on a metal roof! Our weekend (well, Sunday) was awfully rainy too (more water in the basement). Those peonies are just so gorgeous Teresa. I can almost smell their fragrance through the computer screen - lol. Your attic will be wonderful when completed and you are right - a window makes all the difference.
ReplyDeleteI wish my computer had a "smell" function. Those flowers look lovely.
ReplyDeleteTeresa, the mock orange blossoms are so beautiful! We have had quite a bit of rain here as well--over 5 inches for the month so far--that's unheard of for us! Your new attic renovation is coming along nicely and I can imagine it's exciting to have a window to brighten up the space! I hope you share its progress with us. ♥
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flowers Teresa and what fun to have a brand new view from the attic! Hugs xxx
ReplyDeleteI love the amazing scent of flowers in bloom. We had heavenly lilacs scenting the air last week. now they are gone. Im hoping with the humidity today and warmth, that fireflies will be back for the summer! Glad you have a new VIEW
ReplyDeleteI love peonies! Yours are just divine!!! The attic is looking amazing. What are you going to use it for? I have a few precious hours today so I'm still writing up a beanie pattern until I have to do the school run. Love love love the new view through the attic window of the barn!
ReplyDelete**hugs**
I haven't checked in for a few posts and here you are emptying your attic and overhauling it. Wow. Is the space for the boys? My mock orange survived all the downpours quite well and like you, my rosebud azaleas are done. We are supposedly reaching for 100' next week :-(
ReplyDeleteI hope yo had a nice time with Gracie, she deserves a break with all she has going on. The attic is looking fantastic Teresa!
