Thank You, Meredith!

I won Meredith's giveaway on her blog and I received her package and oh my goodness!  *T*H*A*N*K* * *Y*O*U*!*!*!*  She sent the sweetest and most fun card, the shawl, some fun socks, Halloween cocktail napkins and these totally cute earrings!

And look how cute she wrapped everything!!  :-)

I am going to love wearing this shawl, knowing my dear dear friend Meredith created it with her own hands, stitch by stitch.  I'm so honored to be gifted this treasure.

A close up of the skull motif.  Clever!  Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Mere.  ((hugs))

I went through more of my mother's things so we could do more organizing and clearing - and I found this crocheted blanket.  Many people would have just tossed this or put it in the thrift store donation pile - but I instantly remember my own mother crocheting this blanket herself.  We washed and dried it and now it's a treasure of mine.  Does anyone know the name of this pattern?

The most important part of this is that she only made 2 blankets that I know of, so this is a rare item.

I picked up a few new pillows for the front porch rockers.  I found a neat old table on Facebook "Marketplace" for $20 - I'm meeting the seller after swimming today.  Can't wait to show you.

This is the view from the porch, you can't actually see the flower field across the road, but it's there behind the hedgerow.

I snapped these while rocking in the chair, this is looking towards our circular driveway.

And the edge of our little forest and front yard.

My BFF Shirley volunteered at Multnomah Falls yesterday.  Not much water coming over.. too long of a drought.

We met so many neat people yesterday and helped them plan their trip to see the most wonderful site possible.

I passed this flag on my way to swim on Wednesday, it's at a car dealership, so I made a mental note to snap a photo on my way home.  I pulled into the median and snapped away with my iPhone X on x2 zoom and am so amazed at the quality of the image I got.  :-)

OK, must dash, lunch to make, swim bag to pack, places to go, people to see!  Have a wonderful weekend!!  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. I hope you find out the name of that pattern. I love it!
Someone told me that M. Falls wasn't 'working' the other day but I don't know what they meant.
Your black cat card reminds me of my little cat Stella, who left us for a better place a year ago. Sad face.

  6. Congratulations on your win, Teresa! What a lovely shawl and other cute items. I'm so glad you kept your mother's blanket--it's beautiful and a treasure for you. The views from your new porch is a spot I'd surely enjoy with a book to read in my lap! ♥

  7. Nice shawl your won of Mereknits blog...keep you warm! Out and about this weekend and doing too much but finding a time to rest is fun too. Can't wait til it rains as we need it badly. We have crunchy leaves falling already! I like your mother's afghan! I still have a few items for Phil's family and not parting with them nor a blanket a lady made me when I was young! Figuring out what to do with it as it still smells OLD even after washing it! Have a good weekend! x

  8. I wonder if your mothers blanket could be a Bargello type pattern or stitch? It is unusual & pretty, too.

  9. I was so happy to read on Meredith’s blog that you won! I knew you would appreciate the shawl that she made. It’s perfect for you, a shawl lover!
Your mom’s blanket is a precious heirloom. I have seen that pattern before, but I have no idea what it’s called. Maybe you could do a search on (Ravelry). I’ll look for it too.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend Teresa. It’s going to be a cool one over on the side of the state. Blessings,
    Betsy

  10. The pattern of the amazing blanket your mom made looks difficult to me...and I will be interested to know what you find out about it. Congratulations on your win from Meredith! Rain to supply Multnomah Falls and snow to cover Mt. Hood will be welcome by me, but while we wait for that to happen, I am enjoying the wonderful colors of the autumn leaves. I'm glad you enjoyed rocking in one of your new chairs on the front porch :) The drive up to Wildwood Park past Sandy today was so pretty with colorful leaves on some of the trees. Happy Weekend! xx

  12. I'm catching up on 2 days posts here - have been busy getting my CWA audit papers ready to send. I've seen that crochet pattern but can't for the life of me remember where. Possibly on YouTube - if I find it I'll let you know. I love the look of your front porch and the new rockers. Look forward to seeing that table you picked up on market place. Shame that hedge across the road blocks your view of the flower gardens - that would have been a real treat to sit out there and look at pretty flowers. What do you think of the iPhone X ? I've resisted upgrading my iPhone 8 Plus as I'm happy with the photos it takes and I think the 8 plus has the same camera as the original X. You get such amazing moon shots - something I can't do. We're having a long weekend here and I'm just lazing around doing not much at all. Hope you enjoy your weekend. xox

  13. Guess what I found? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vM6xiB4k_G4 - I think this pattern is what you were asking about. Its called the Apache Tears stitch. I like the pot plant cover she made in the tutorial.

  17. The pattern of your mother's afghan is Trail of Tears. My MIL made one back in the 70s, and my husband remembered the name.

  18. I think it is called Apache Tears.

  19. Congratulations on your win! What a lovely gift. Many years ago I made your mother's little blanket. A newer version is the Groovy-Ghan: http://www.acreativebeing.com/patterns/groovy-ghan-en/ I'm still trying to track down in my stash of vintage patterns the original pattern. If I find it I'll let you know. And, I LOVE your pic of our beautiful flag. It's great with that I-Phone. Are you on a Auto setting? Happy Fall from Arizona.

  20. Found it! Info is on Ravelry for original "Narrow Step" pattern publication 1981: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/narrow-step-afghan
Another pattern written from the same can be found at:
    http://www.knitting-crochet.com/crochet/narsteafg.html
And, it is re-written as "Apache Tears" by Sarah London, a free pattern at: https://sarahlondon.wordpress.com/2013/06/20/crochet-apache-tears-free-pattern/
    Sure hope this helps.

  23. I do love that shawl you won Teresa, congratulations. Isn't it lovely to have something like a blanket to remember loved ones by. I've got two blankets my grandmother made me and they are piled along with my own blankets now. All of them get used and even though the kids never met their great-grandmother, they know her through her blankets. xx Susan

  24. I remember that pattern being big about 1976 - at the school I started teaching at. I knew it had an 'Indian' name, but thought it was Navaho something. So Apache Tears it is. It is very simple you do single crochets but every 9-10 stitches (depends on you just keep it the same) you stitch down into the previous row with a double crochet stitch ( think). In the next row you 'step' over one stitch further before you do the 2 row stitch. And so on with each row moving one stitch further before doing the stitch into the row below.
My explanation is probably as 'clear as mud'. lol

  25. Congratulations on your lovely win Teresa! And how nice to find a crochet blanket made by your mother..so special to have something to treasure made by their own hands...I have some of my mother's sewing and an embroidered nightdress that I will always treasure. Lovely autumn pictures and glad you have pillows so you can sit enjoying your rockers on the porch. Have a happy week dear Teresa. xxx
