Snow Covered Mt. Hood

Hello dear readers and far-flung friends.  It's been a long time since I've shared "my" mountain with you.  We had so many months of cloudy weather and now finally we have some sunny days.  So, when we headed out for some errands on Friday I took my "BGC" (Big Girl Camera) with the intent of capturing the hill with the new snow that happened over the last month.

We made our way to Jonsrud viewpoint in Sandy, Oregon which is very popular with photographers and anyone who wants to drink in this view and enjoy the fresh air.  There was some haze in the air so the sky is not as blue as I would have liked, but still.. wow.

Yesterday we were invited to our son's home in Sandy for dinner, Kristi made Carne Asada Burritos.  After a fun visit and delicious dinner we headed out in time to catch the late evening light on Mt. Hood.. hoping for some pink.  :-)

When a mountain is lit late in the day, the light is filtered through the atmosphere and creates a colorful sunset which colors the edifice and it is called... "Alpenglow".  I love that word.  We waited for the mountain to turn color...

A zoom into the top of the mountain.. many people climb to the very peak.. see them up there?  :-)

Ohhhh.. rosy color!  This is the pinkest it got.. sometimes it will get really pink, almost red.. but today it glowed softly.

*snap* and time to head home.

On Saturday we took our 2 grandsons and a friend to see Captain Marvel.  Dayle and I really enjoyed it and there were some fun moments and a cameo of Stan Lee in it.  I recommend the movie.  I loved seeing so many strong women in this film!

Liz asked me about my silver crochet hooks in the comments of my last post - so here is my collection and here is the link to Molly at Celtic Swan who makes these.  Click HERE.

Having the sun shine on a Monday is a good thing.  How are things in your neck of the woods?

I need to say a few words about the white terrorist attack in New Zealand.  I'm just sick about it.  Someone mentioned that these terrorists are the "white Isis".  And it occurred to me that white supremacists are killing more people than foreign terrorists.  What an awful state our world is in.  I'm making a stand to spread acceptance of all people and hope you will do the same.  We are all humans.. let's get along.

((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  3. My goodness, Teresa, Mt. Hood is gorgeous!! Your photos make me want to see her in person. I guess she is feminine as I refer to all things in nature. Lol. Love the Alpenglow--just beautiful...
I agree with you about the world events. We must love one another, no matter our race or religion.

  4. It's interesting you should mention, "white supremacists are killing more people than foreign terrorists" Having a look around for more information, I came upon this site - https://ourworldindata.org/terrorism
IMHO, until each and every individual takes responsibility for their own actions, our world will continue to generate hate filled terrorists of one kind or another.
BTW: Pretty pics of Mt. Hood. I never get tired of seeing that beautiful mountain.

  5. Ahhh, beautiful Mt. Hood. Just what I needed to soothe my soul on this crazy Monday. Thank you for these pictures Teresa. As always, I love your collection of crochet hooks too. Just beautiful. I’m keeping this entire world in my prayers. It’s crazy. We just need to learn to get along and remember the lessons we were taught in kindergarten.

    Blessings, Betsy

  6. You live in such a beautiful area, Teresa. Our world is in such a shape. We lack a proper leader who can even make an appropriate statement about the attack in New Zealand.

  7. It is so exciting to have magnificent Mt. Hood in view more frequently, and you certainly captured some wonderful shots of it! Thanks for sharing them. My neighbor came over and gave me a card of a photo of the tip top of Mt. Hood...she thinks it is taken from across the street! So far I have not been able to find the spot for the view, but your post inspires me to go look again! xx

  8. Mt Hood is certainly spectacular. I'm loving the snow and dreaming of cooler weather as Summer doesn't want to let go in these parts. It's still mid 30's celsius (around 93F) and I'm so over the heat. Then again, after the recent events in New Zealand, you realise that each day is precious and to cherish it and the ones you love. xx Susan

  12. Beautiful pictures of Mt. Hood and your crochet hooks are gorgeous!

The world has become such a hateful, scary place. We are all human and we do all need to get along...not sure how we are going to get there, but it needs to happen quickly.

  14. Thought you'd enjoy this little factoid:
"Alpenglow produces a red or pink glow on mountains opposite the sun. It occurs during sunrise and sunset when the sun is actually below the horizon. The light, or “glow,” is caused by sunlight that is reflected off airborne particulates, precipitation/ice crystals or other aerosols in the atmosphere."
