Creating Fabric and Growing Things

Sometimes I am amazed how you can take "string" and a hook and one loop at a time to create fabric.  I also wonder who figured this out.. I did google it and they say it began in the 1700s.  At any rate, I believe knitting and crochet are more popular now than ever.  I think it's an antidote to the mass produced clothing we wear, we want something we made ourselves.  What do you think?

I'm nearing the second color sequence of my beach, sea, sunset and sky.  It's nice to work on a small afghan as it goes so much quicker.  :-)

The pinkie-red azalea is in full bloom, I am sure it will get bigger each year.  Such a pretty color.

Our Hosta really make me happy.. there are SO many varieties of them.

Our pot of this neat little plant continues to return each year.  Funny story is we had gone to dinner in Troutdale with our son and his family.  After dinner Kristi took the boys to a small park across the street.  She saw this plant and pinched off a little stem to show me.  We brought it home and put it in a pot and it took off.  I am not sure what it is.. any ideas?

The big pot of Christmas Cactus behind my chair, in the bay window, has a few blooms on.. the red one.  I have some white, pink and the red in this pot.

My older brother Rob and sister Roberta and Rob's wife D'Ann are coming to visit shortly.  He has some genealogy information he wants to share with us and discuss a family reunion, too.

Dayle had a rough few days but is improving now.  Thank you to those of you who have left us some very kind and supportive comments.  For those who have inquired, his cancer was papillary.

Thank you for visiting.. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.  We have no plans so my blanket should be getting bigger.
((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  3. Your visit with family sounds like fun. I hope you can share the information with all of us. Every single time I start a project I am amazed that one stitch leads to a finished project whether it be a blanket, scarf, hat or sweater. The first stitch leads to all of that. It thrills me every time.

  4. Your observations about making fabric sent me to my bookshelves of craft books. One interesting book, "Women's Work the First 20,000 Years" by Elizabeth Wayland Barber mostly sites the history of spinning yarn and weaving fabric. Hope you had a great visit today and am praying Dayle's healing continues to progress well. I'm planning to meet some friends at the Farmer's Market over in Happy Valley tomorrow. Happy stitching! xxxxx

  5. Teresa, your blanket is really growing and the colors are truly pretty.
Love hosta's so much. They're so easy to grow, which is a plus for me as my thumb isn't as green as I'd like. (smile)
Hi Dayle, Having to go through a thyroidectomy isn't a walk in the park to say the least. Just think of all that you've been through in your life. You've got this, and you will come out the other side feeling better & better everyday. My cancer was papillary, too. I'm told it's the first stage or lowest of the thyroid cancers. Aren't we the lucky ones! Hang in there Dayle. We're all pulling for you and you're in our prayers.

  6. First of all, I'm so glad to hear Dayle is feeling better. Dennis asks me every night when he gets home from work if you posted anything about how Dayle is doing. I wish we lived closer so they could visit together.
Your blanket is looking beautiful. Sometimes when I stop and think about it, knitting and crochet really amaze me too. Sticks and string. And such beautiful things come of it. I'm so glad to be part of this community.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend. We're heading off northbound tomorrow to look at a 5th wheel. Who knows what we'll find. It's deep in the woods up by Canada.
    Blessings
    Betsy

  10. Your blanket is looking good, such beauty from simple materials. I love Christmas cactus, though I always forget to feed them in the growing season and wonder why they don't then flower. Cathy x
