🌞 Summertime and the Livin' is Easy..

..fish are jumpin' and the cotton is high.. :-) 🌞 Do you recognize that song?  It's "Summertime" written for the opera "Porgy and Bess" in 1935.  I love singing it.  The roses are blooming here in the farmyard.. this one is called "Scentimental" and is not only pretty but has a wonderful scent.  I only choose roses to plant here that have a good rose aroma.

For some reason my Irises aren't blooming this year much, but this one single bloom is out there.. so pretty.

From the top.. :-)

My pink rose, do you know the name of this one?

We had a nice weekend.. yesterday we decided to enjoy our front porch for a change... the one we had re-built last summer.  It was neat to rock away on the new chairs, too.

Our view from the porch of our front yard, the road and the land across the street.

Looking right at the red Rhodie.

Down the stairs to the brick walkway.

Dayle holding Mocha who visited the porch for the first time, she was very curious about it all.

Smile!  :-)

I love the hex sign that my daughter gave me as a gift.

Dayle snapped some photos of the red Rhodie for me.  The leaves have some weird affliction, but the flowers are okay.

These are one of the last ones to bloom.

The very last to bloom is this one.  Just opening.. it's right in front of the porch so we keep pruning it down and so it never is covered with flowers.. poor thing.

The chickens are on full production.. they are kind of coming out of our ears!  I got 3 of these egg containers that hold 2 dozen each.  And yes, we've been having egg salad and I boiled 15 on Saturday to make potato salad.

The potato salad came out delicious, we also made baked beans and BBQ chicken thighs.  We had that for dinner last night.  Dayle harvested some of our chives and snipped them into the salad and I decorated the top with some of them and a chive flower.  We used Yukon gold potatoes, boiled eggs, chopped pickles and celery and added mayonnaise, a bit of mustard and some salt and pepper.  How do you make yours?

I got more rows done on my Dune afghan and got caught up on weaving in the ends last night.  I am truly enjoying this project.

I'm off to swim soon.  It's SO much easier to go there when it's sunny out!  Thanks for visiting and I hope you have a wonderful week ahead.  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. That first rose is so pretty! I have 3 rose bushes I have to dig up and move this year - not looking forward to that. Your front porch looks like the perfect place to spend an afternoon. Mocha is adorable as usual. What a sweetie!

  2. Your post makes me smile Teresa. I can imagine sitting on the porch with you rocking and crocheting. Having visited your lovely farm, it makes it even easier to imagine being there. So many eggs. I would definitely be a regular customer of yours if we only lived closer.
I make my potato salad very much like yours except I don't put pickle juice in and I use regular yellow onions. I never thought to use chives, I just make it like my Mom did. I also add a bit of sugar.
Your blanket is looking beautiful. I haven't gotten much crocheting or knitting done this weekend. Too much visiting at the lake but that's good for my soul so I think I'll continue to enjoy each day as it comes along.
Thank you for the beautiful flowers too. They always brighten my day! Tell Dayle hello from Dennis and me.
    Blessings always my friend,
    Bets

  3. Goodness, those roses are so beautiful,I can almost smell their sweet fragrance. As I write I can see on my shelf a few yarn minis with the same color shades as both your Iris and pink flowers, gorgeous!
Love your porch, it looks so inviting. I bet a person could easily fall asleep there. Miss Mocha is so cute, what a love, what a precious little companion. Dayle, you're looking pretty darn good for a fella that's been through it.
We made our potato salad the same. Yukon gold potatoes are so creamy and a bit of pickle just wakes up the whole dish. Sometimes I add a dash of red pepper flakes for a little kick.
Golly your Dune afghan is zipping right along. That's a nice closeup of your beautiful stitches.
What do you have planned next in the way of creative endeavors?
    BTW: Are you on Ravelry?

  5. Your weekend "rocked!" :-) I loved being out in the sunshine this past weekend, but wore a hat and sun block shirt when I went to the farmer's market. I got some eggs like the colors of yours, lettuce and a little honey. I am still admiring your blalnket! Thanks for sharing the photos of your flowers...each flower is gorgeous and I wish I could smell the rose! My Iris are not blooming yet. I hope you had a good swim....I finally ordered a new swimsuit :-) xxx

  7. Your flowers are breathtaking Very nice photos Teresa!
Good for you and your swimming. It is a good thing to do when you are in a time of some stress. Hoping your dear Hubby is feeling better each day. Our potato salad is so simple:
    red potatoes boiled
    tossed with bacon bits
tossed with Ranch dressing and served hot!

  8. I've said it before, Teresa, you have lovely flowers. Red rhododendrons are not seen often here and it is a treat to view your's. I love your front porch and I'm so glad you are enjoying it along with Mocha. Your potato salad sounds like mine. I love it made with eggs, sweet pickle relish and Duke's Mayonnaise. Good to see Dayle doing well.

  9. Ooh, what a pretty afghan, and that stripey rose is stunning!

We eat a lot of eggs here - lucky you to have a home supply! For potato salad I like to use red or yellow potatoes, boiled then tossed with homemade mayo stirred together with a vinegar-brown sugar syrup. I also put in chopped onion and lots of chopped fresh tarragon and chives. (Typing this is making me hungry!) :D

    1. I translated this Russian comment to share with you:

Teresa, summer is the most beautiful time of the year when you can enjoy the variety of colors, their aromas and soak up the sunshine! Thank you for the beauty that is shared with us.

  12. Beautiful flowers and dear sweet Mocha, I'm glad you can sit out on your porch. It all looks heavenly. Our potato salad in the UK is going to sound so bland compared to yours. It's basically - new potatoes cooked and cut small, mayonnaise and snipped chives or finely cut spring onions. Stirred together and chilled. We like to stir in finely chopped mint. That's it! I've copied shop bought varieties so I'm guessing that's how others in the uk make theirs too. Take care of you and yours, Cathy x
