It's Lilac Time!

I look forward to our Lilac trees blooming every year.. the beautiful flowers and the aroma is amazing.  I have several varieties, dark French purple, classic lavender, white and a purple with white edges.

Dayle cut several branches for me and I brought them in and trimmed them up and arranged them in a vase for the dining room table.

You should smell the perfume in the house!  I'm so happy that we didn't miss their bloom while away, I was very worried that we'd come home and they'd be on the wane and brown.  But they were just right!

Our wonderful DIL Kristi hosted a multi-birthday party at their house on Saturday.  We picked up pizza on the way and after dinner she brought out dessert.. not one but one for each of us who were celebrating!  This was mine.. chocolate cake!

My youngest son Travis turns 43 this week, she got him a carrot cake.

Shawn, our middle child, turned 46 yesterday.  Kristi made him peanut butter, oat cookies.

Michael turned 19 last week, he is Shawn's stepson that is living here with us now.  Kristi made him a jello dessert.  We all sang Happy Birthday to each other.  :-)  🎂

Yesterday I took my iPhone out to snap some photos of the flowers that bloomed while we were away at the beach.  The Bleeding Heart never fails to delight me.

What a neat flower.

The new daffodils are blooming.. I hope they'll be more robust next year.

We have one patch of Bluebells which gets bigger every year and our first Irises opened.  :-)

I am not sure where these came from, they just appeared several years ago and get more profuse each year.  LOL!

We've planted several more varieties of Iris but this one is the first to bloom each year.

I planted the white Lilac by the deck and kitchen window so the scent would waft in when the windows are open.  :-)  It's growing nice and big.

The Star of Bethlehem is amazing this year.. when I told someone I had them they scoffed at them and said they're very invasive.. but they can invade away as far as I'm concerned.  :-)

Here is one of my dark purple Lilacs on the right and the pinkish lavender one to the left.  I actually bought that one as a white edged purple one but it was a blooper.. still pretty, though.

A closeup of the pinky lavender one.

This arrived the day we left for the coast.. I'd hoped I could take it and work on it while gone.  I love the colors in this project, it was designed by Lucy at Attic24, and I look forward to starting it.

I plan to start with the sand colors, add in the sea colors, then the pinks of a sunset and last the blues of the sky.  Then repeat.

I am going to get back into the pool today.  I took a long break due to a cold that went on a long time, then the winter was too cold, then we were away on vacation.  I'm out of excuses.. lol.  I will have to work up my endurance, I'm sure my heart will be pleased.. if I don't break it on my first swim.  Wish me luck.

What are you up to today?  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. My goodness, Kristi is a gem. Those are a lot of desserts and she took such care in choosing each thing. Of course, my favorite is your chocolate cake, but Dennis' would be the carrot cake. :-)
Your flowers are all so pretty. We still don't have much blooming here. Two frost warnings last week stopped a lot of growth. This week is supposed to reach the upper 70's though and I'm enjoying it.
Love the muted colors on the blanket kit. It will be fun to watch it grow. You are the "Blanket Queen"!
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  4. That Bleeding Heart plant is so well named. I've never seen it before. Bluebells are lovely, but they do spread. Ours came in under the fence from the neighbour's garden. I think they also have irises that are trying to come in. Your lilac is lovely. We had a white tree and a mauve tree in our last garden. I really miss them. Daughter used to sit in her pram under the white one and later had a tree house under the mauve one. Our current garden is sadly too small for trees.

  6. I'm so glad your lilacs waited for you to put on their show! So many gorgeous varieties, I'm quite envious. I have my Grandmother's lilacs, but sadly they failed to bloom this year. I've cut them back now and hopefully they will bloom again. Your flowers are beautiful and you know I love the bluebells! Reminds me of the bluebell woods of England. Your Kristi is just the sweetest--you always report such kind things she does--those cakes are lovely and I'm sure delicious! Welcome home.

  8. Happy Birthday...to each one in your household who has recently been celebrating a birthday! The mystery wildflower I asked for info on in my last post is related to Bleeding Hearts, I think, but definitely isn't a Bleeding Heart. Yours are spectacular! Lis and Gary loaned me one of their Subaru cars Friday afternoon while my van is being worked on and at their house on Sunday I got to see their Lilac bush which they are enjoying while unpacking their stuff. Your Lilac bouquet on the table is so lovely I can almost smell them through the computer screen. I am excited you decided to make the Dune blanket! The name alone entices me, but I really like the colors, too. Today I put two column fan bases together and made a water fountain in a bowl that I intend to put out on the patio, but am listening to from its current spot on the counter by the sink in the kitchen. I swept the patio today getting ready for a rug that is supposed to arrive tomorrow.. Good for you getting back to swimming! I still have to order a new suit :-) xx

  10. Happy Birthday to all of you celebrating! I share a birthday with your son Shawn, May 5th. I also had a lovely party with friends and children (they were all allowed to bring their friends, too). Lilac is just so beautiful. I planted a lilac last year, it is still tiny but I noticed that there are just a few buds and I think they'll be flowering soon. It is a white variety. Have a lovely week x

  11. Lots of celebrating over there. Happy birthday to all! So sweet of Kristi to make sure everyone had their own special dessert. Your yard is overflowing with blossoms and all sorts of lusciousness. I try to find the beauty around here but it looks nothing like what you got going on. In the desert, I'm happy if any plant invades and flourishes. The only invasions I don't like are of the ant variety. :/

  17. So glad you are getting to enjoy your lilacs. Ours aren't quite ready, but I think we'll see them start to blooms by next week. This little town I live in is full of lilacs! We have a few of the old fashioned lavender trees and although I can take a quick sniff of them when I'm outside, I get all stuffed up if I bring them inside.
