Trugs and Teacups

I was reading my favorite blogs the other day and saw that my blog friend Helen Philipps had found a wooden trug and was using it to gather flowers in her beautiful picket fenced cottage garden.  I have a Myrtlewood picnic basket and I had eyed a trug made by the same company.  I thought it would be very useful for picking up eggs and cutting flowers so I found their website and bought one.

Myrtlewood is beloved in Oregon.. I've always heard it's only to be found in this state but I googled it and it also grows in Northern California.  I love the grain in the wood.

They use copper tacks to put them together.  These are made by Barbur's Baskets.  I ordered their baskets for the Vista House when I was the Executive Director there and was the buyer for the museum shop.

I attended the Portland Women's Forum meeting yesterday and picked up my fellow members Bev and Diane on the way.  After the meeting when dropping Diane off at her home, she invited us inside to see her teacup collection.  She has collected a lot of antique display furniture to show off her cups and teapots. 🍵

It's like a museum!!  And Diane is an expert on her collections, too.

She also has many more cups in the pretty boxes.

It was fun to see her collection.  Do you know a teacup collector?

Diane even sold me a few plates she didn't want.  I now have four Royal Albert "Old Country Roses" plates.  :-)

I'm off to swim soon and then afterwards I'm picking up our order of groceries.  We've started using the internet to order them and then we reserve a pick up time.  So handy!  I hope you have a wonderful weekend.  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. Oh my, I hope Diane has help with the dusting. What a fabulous collection. I think I might have a matching cup and saucer, same as your four new plates. Trug is a new word for me (I am not a native English speaker, it happens every now and then). I like it and I also like the actual trug. Have a lovely weekend xx

  2. That's a beautiful basket. I had never heard of a trug, either. That is certainly an extensive collection of teacups and teapots. I wonder if she uses any of them? I haven't tried ordering groceries online yet, but my friend and her daughter both do it all the time. They both say they save money as they don't do the impulse buying. And the daughter has a three year old and a two month old, so you can imagine the energy it saves!

  3. While living in northern California a friend and I explored some Myrtlewood shops around us and in southern Oregon. Having read of Myrtlewood in the Bible I was curious about it and one day my generous friend bought me a little vase made of it which I current have some sprigs of dried Eucalyptus Your new trug is both beautiful and practical. Diane certainly has an amazing collection of tea related dishes and I can imagine it was interesting to listen to her account of the history of some of the pieces. Were you allowed to swim during the thunderstorm this afternoon? I hope you and yours have a happy weekend. On Saturday I plan to go on a trolly ride. :-) xxxx

  4. I was super busy this spring. Not enough time to read my blogs nor start mine up again. Officially retired from job. Dear son got married this last Sunday at Cooper Spur. My parents have an entire set of Old Country Roses which my little sister wants. And I see myrtlewood just sitting at my garage sales. It was such a thing during the 70's.

  6. Love the trug and the amazing tea cup collection. The Country Roses pattern is the china that I have and have added to over the years, so I love it and use it daily.

  7. Wonder if trug is a old English word as it's still in use a lot here. I have a wooden one made by husband with much protesting as he didn't much like working with small pieces of wood.
That mytlewood is certainly a gorgeous colour.
I'm afraid I looked at all those cups and just thought Aaaaagggghh all those dust collectors!

  10. Hello Teresa! I had never heard of a trug. Thank you for teaching me something new! Your's is beautiful. I love the myrtlewood that I see around the coast in the shops. It's a beautiful wood.
I used to collect teacups but my collection was NOTHING like your friends. She has so many. I confess, my first thought went to dusting them all. Not for me. :-) They are beautiful though. I kept a few of my favorites, like the one Dennis bought me at Kensington Palace in London when whe was there on business one time. It even says, "Queen's China" on the bottom. Very appropriate. :-)
I hope things are going well for Dayle and he's feeling better every day.
    Blessings,
    Betsy
