🍁 As The Season Turns πŸ‚

🍁 Autumn doesn't officially begin until September 23rd, but the weather gods didn't get the memo and we're fully into Fall here in Oregon.  Leaves are turning, cool winds blow and the days are cloudy.  Dayle brought home a pumpkin, a dark red mum and a pot of black corn this morning and so we're in the mood here! πŸ‚  (Edited to add:  The tag says it's an "Ornamental Millet - Purple Majesty".)

We hung the Fall wreath on the door and set the pumpkin and plants on the side.

Have you ever seen the black ornamental millet plant?  I had one in the past.

The tufts are kind of cool.

A closer look.

I put a little wooden keg amongst the plants, it was my mother's.  Do you decorate for Autumn?

I looked over towards Dayle yesterday and this is what I saw.  Our adorable, silly, lovable Mocha.  She's a Cairn Terrier for those new to my blog.  I'd say she's pretty comfortable with us.

I looked over again and this is what I saw.  We love her so much.

Today we remember September 11, 2001 - the tragic day when the Islamic terrorist group Al Qaeda highjacked 4 passenger airplanes full of innocent people and used them as weapons to attack the USA.  They flew into the two Twin Towers full of people, the Pentagon and one crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after its passengers thwarted the hijackers.

The attacks killed 2,996 people, injured over 6,000 others, and caused at least $10 billion in infrastructure and property damage.  Additional people died of 9/11-related cancer and respiratory diseases in the months and years following the attacks.

I was working answering phones at The Oregonian and was able to do craftwork between calls.  The only thing that I could personally do was craft something that was patriotic, so this is what I made in the following days.  A peyote stitch choker with a flag design I created and a pair of earrings to match.

Please join me in taking a moment to honor those who were lost, not only in this horrific event, but those carried about by evil terrorists around our beautiful planet.  Join me in doing what you can to spread love and acceptance.

I called the pool and it's warm again, so I'm off to swim soon.  I hope you have a happy day.  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  2. Your Fall decorations look beautiful. I love the wreath on your door.

I think there may be many people just a little bit in love with Miss Mocha....I know I am.....she really is adorable.

I join you in honouring the victims of 9/11 and all of the families left to carry on after such a devastating event. One of those days that you will always remember where you were and what you were doing. Sadness beyond belief.

  4. Black corn is new to me, Teresa but its texture is lovely. Your wreath looks pretty on your door and the pumpkin. It doesn't feel like fall here at all. We had temperatures in the 90's today. Over this past weekend I did put up our fall wreath and fall flags. It's hard to believe 9-11 was 18 years ago. What sad and unfortunate things have happened in our country since then. I'm joining you in doing my part to spread love and acceptance, my friend.

  5. The black corn plant is new to me, and an interesting addition to your pretty seasonal decorations. I got some autumn plants this afternoon and put them on the patio. Mocha is such a sweetie. At the blanket making group today 9/11 losses and needs were prayed for. So glad you got to swim today! Did the water feel warm? XX

  6. I don't think I've ever seen black corn. It's really neat. I enjoyed seeing all of your fall touches. I don't know if I'll have time to decorate for fall before we leave. It may have to wait until we get home. We leave next Tuesday after Dennis gets off of work. We'll drive until we're tired and get a hotel. The next night we're staying in Casper, WY. We never go that route, but we want to spend the next night in Kearney, NE and go to the museum that is built over Interstate 80. I've been there but Dennis hasn't. We'll leave on the 29th to come home and do the drive in 2 days. We have a housesitter staying with Chloe. She and her daughter love her and do a great job. It makes us feel better to be gone when we know someone is there the entire time.
Mocha is a doll. She is VERY relaxed with the two of you. A match made in heaven for al of you.
Tonight and Friday night in the trailer and then I think we're done. We'll come out Sunday and take all of the food home and clean the tanks, etc. As soon as we get back from Omaha we'll do the final wiinterization of the pipes and cover it. I hope the weather holds as Dennis does Larry and Nita's trailer too and they'll still be camping when we're gone.
Have a great week Teresa. Give Mocha AND Dayle a hug for us. :-)
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  8. I have never seen black corn before, so it was a delight to see something new. I like to decorate a little for Autumn, it is on my to do list that at the moment seems never ending. I too will join you in trying to spread love and acceptance around the World. My goodness how time has flown since 9/11 it seems like only yesterday.

  9. Love your Autumn wreath - but want to hang on to Summer for a bit longer! Mocha certainly looks at home there. 9/11 will live in all our memories, a terrible act of cowardice and hatred. xx

Mocha certainly looks comfortable with you

  11. The Black Corn is a new-to-me plant and I really like it! Your porch looks so inviting. We had some beautiful Fall weather and now it is stinking hot and humid again. The newscaster on my drive into work called our weather oppressive! Nice that your pool has heated up again - wish I had a local pool where I could go swimming.

  12. I am so ready for Fall and yes I decorate for Fall as opposed to Halloween which comes later. If fact, I did some decorating yesterday even though it's still in the 90's here! Ahhhh! Your decorations are beautiful and I have never seen or heard of black corn...very pretty! Your little one is so cute and I love the necklace and earrings. I heard the other day that 9/11 is not in the history books at schools? I find that hard to believe but I will ask my daughter who is a teacher. Enjoy your Fall!

  13. Oh yes I decorate for fall/halloween. I have the blessing of a volunteer pumpkin. I didn't plan it. It came up on its own next to the garage. I wasn't sure what kind of squash it was. Now I see its a warty pumpkin!!!!! I also just thanked someone by drawing on a clay pot with a permanent black marker to make a face. It stayed on really well during our huge rain storm last night

  14. It's looking beautiful in your neck of the woods. Have not seen Purple Majesty before but it fits right in with your decorating. Mocha is looking quite comfy over there. :) Your choker and earrings are really pretty. Handwork is certainly soothing at all times, but even moreso in times of stress and chaos. Peace and blessings to all, Tammy

  15. Beautiful Autumn decorations Teresa. I don't decorate for Autumn but think I should and did intend to make a wreath after admiring yours last year - where did the time go?
We did remember on the 11th. I also remember exactly where I was when I first heard the news and the fear I felt until I heard our son was safe - he had flown to US and at that time we did not know exactly where he was. He finally phoned and sad 'I thought I'd better let you know I'm fine.' We were so sad for those that weren't. Crafting can be a wonderful therapy. Hugs Anne x

  16. I love your fall wreath, so pretty. I've never heard of black corn but I'm going to be on the lookout for it now! I do decorate for fall (my favorite season). So far I have put out the scarecrow, two pots of mums and a wreath on the door and decorated the mantle inside. I don't get the pumpkins til October. Mocha looks very comfortable, she must provide you with many smiles!
