My absolute favorite Rhododendron is this big hot pink one. I am not sure of the name.. but that's okay, it was here before we came and will be here after I'm gone.
This one is amongst a stand of old Birch trees in our front yard.
But wow.. the blooms are quite literally amazing!
After working on the crocheted flower garland of Lucy's from Attic24 blog - I finally got all 15 flowers done, along with 30 leaves and 16 little flowers... it was FINALLY time to crochet them together.
The vine took hardly any time, but I missed adding one little flower between the big ones and had to pull out some and fix it.
Here is my pile of flowers as I was ready to stitch them together. You should smell the Lily-of-the-Valley near me and the warmth of the fire.
Ta-Dah! What a fun project but I am glad it's done. I have a blanket to finish. Ahem.
And here it is, strung across the TV cabinet. I asked Dayle to find me a pretty show on TV and he found this British show of animals in the countryside there. :-)
Kind of fun to have flowers across there.
A little closer.. you might even be able to see that the flowers are still wet with rain.
Chef Dayle has added a new talent to his repertoire! Homemade PIZZA! When the kids were growing up I found a recipe in my old trusty Betty Crocker Cookbook and made them on a regular basis. So, I tutored Dayle as he chef-ed away. First off, I used the food processor with dough blade to blend and knead the dough. I even got a new food processor not long ago so we could make pizza again. Which is how he made the dough. He then cooked ground beef, Italian sausage, fresh mushrooms and sliced olives and added a jar of marinara sauce to it and spread it on the crust...
Then covered it with Mozzarella and some grated sharp cheddar.
And Voila! Fresh and hot homemade pizza! YAY!
Want a slice? :-)
A walkabout yesterday, the white Lilac is covered with blooms this year, next to the dark purple French lilac, strawberries below.
This is the delivery we had on Friday - 2 more raised beds. We were given a bunch of Dahlia tubers which we'll plant in one of these and then put the Zucchini in one of these, too. The soil was delivered on Saturday and Dayle will use the tractor to fill these. They will need some shims to level them, too.
Here is Ben who makes these and delivers them to us, he is a Firefighter and does this on his days off. We gifted him with a dozen and a half eggs as he didn't charge us for the delivery.
Did you want to see Mocha after she was groomed? How cute is she? :-)
So.. that was our weekend. Did you have a fun one? Do tell. Dayle is off to Home Depot to purchase a few trellises so we can plant our peas and beans. Yes, he will be wearing a mask and sterilizing his hands after he leaves the store. I've been reading some stories from nurses of how horrific Covid-19 is to your body and the torture of being on a ventilator. We are going to avoid this virus like the plague. Which it is. I hope you are being safe. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
I can almost smell those flowers... almost! Your flower garland turned out so pretty, really brings spring inside. Dayle's pizza looks soooooo delicious. Let's see... we spent a lot of time outside this weekend getting our beds ready for planting and actually planted peas, lettuce and spinach. It's supposed to rain for the next few days so I wanted to get the early seeds in now.
ReplyDeleteYour flower garland is really beautiful - I might just have to learn how to make my own!
ReplyDeleteGreat garden beds and you will sure have plenty of fresh produce. PIZZA looks great I just use my bread dough recipe by hand 😀😀 Flu jab for me today and made choc chilli cake yesterday.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you and Dayle are being safe. I love your lily of the valley in that lovely vase. I do have them in my garden and you are so right, they smell heavenly. That pizza is wonderful. Nothing like homemade. You have such a pretty barn. I love it when you feature its beauty in your photos. Thanks for sharing your rodies as I've never had luck with them. And your darling flower banner is gorgeos!
ReplyDeleteLoved seeing your gorgeous Rhododendrons and Lilly of the Valley! I enjoy the flowers in our condo community when I am walking the mile loop...today I snapped a photo of some lovely purple Iris.
ReplyDeleteYour pretty Lucy garland looks right at home and you got a great photo of sweet Mocha. Please give her some love pats from me. Chef Dayle's pizza looked like a yummy success. Today on my walk I noticed a trellis at a neighbor's unit near her front step and there was a beautiful vine with big purple flowers on it. My next door neighbor has a trellis on her patio with a wonderful purple Clematis vine on it....thinking how to set up one here. I hope your new raised beds and trellises help you grow a successful garden. My Basil seedlings did not survive, but my plants in general look happy for which I am grateful. Lis and Gary stopped by Sunday afternoon to drop off some wire to try to add to my face masks and I spent a lot of time on the laptop this weekend fixing my email account and attending some online church services. Hope you have a happy week! ((hugs))
Keep staying in dear teresa. Im sure you miss volunteering too.
ReplyDeleteYour flower garland is amazing as is your hubby s pizza!
Hi Teresa, I'm late onto the computer tonight. It's been a busy day. Mostly at home, but I did have to take Chloe to the vet where I sat in the car and they came and got her and took her inside and brought her back. Such a strange world we're living in right now.
ReplyDeleteI knew those flowers looked familiar. The small ones are the same one's I put on my spring/summer garland. I made a different large flower though.
Little Mocha looks beautiful and I would love to give her some snuggles right now. I miss all three of you!
Stay safe and stay home my friend.
Blessings,
Betsy
Dear little Mocha, she is adorable. Bertie is due for a groom soon, but I suspect they won't be open. The pizza looks amazing, lucky you having such a good cook about the place! I love the lilies of the valley and the vase is brilliant. I used to pick them when I was little, we had lots I remember. And I'd take them to my grandmothers as well. Love the new raised beds, I shall look forward to seeing everything growing in them. CJ xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a delicious post! The pizza looks yummy. And your flower garland is wonderful. Now that I am making Granny Squares again (after 45 years), I may need to try a garland!!
ReplyDeleteIf only I lived closer I would be right round for some of that pizza observing social distance of course. It looks delicious. The planters are amazing, a great job and so well made. Loved the lily and the valley and rhododdendrons, I bet the smell was amazing. Beautiful garland. Take care and stay safe.
ReplyDeleteHi Teresa your garland is just gorgeous, well done you . I am glad to see you are keeping well and busy. The pizza looked delish! Hugs from the UK xxx
ReplyDeleteLittle Mocha looks so sweet in your photo. I just want to pick her up and give her a hug:)
ReplyDeleteThat pizza looks really delicious. I have an old Betty Crocker cookbook that I will check for the pizza dough recipe. The garland is so sweet - I especially like all of the lovely colors. You are so busy and productive! I am afraid I am being quite lazy and don't accomplish as much as you and Dayle do for sure! Well done and thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLove the flower garland. It looks great across your tv cupboard. Don't think I've ever actually seen or smelled any Lily of the Valley. I started making homemade pizza this year. In fact, I've only recently starting making my own bread. I've been missing out all these years because I thought anything made with yeast was kinda tricky. :/ Mocha sure is a cutie. :) Take care.
ReplyDeleteHello Teresa. I've only just found your blog as a link from Attic24. I love your photos, where do I start!? Lily of the valley reminds me of some perfume my grandma used to have, very distinctive and I adore it. Mine are just poking through the soil, we are in the north east of England, so everything is a bit later. I'm tempted to try the garland, it's worked out beautifully. How did you do the centres of the smaller flowers? Did you use wool, or thread, or did you colour in as Lucy suggested? Stay safe. Corinne x
ReplyDeleteHi Corinne, welcome to my blog! You should do the garland, it's so fun. I used felt tip markers for coloring in the centers on the little flowers. It was such an unusual idea and it was actually VERY fun to do! Hope to see you again here. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
DeleteA lovely mix of pretty things to enjoy. I’ve been enjoying lily of the valley from my neighbour recently, as you say a beautiful scent. Well done on the flower garland. B x
