The Sensation Lilac is almost fully opened. What a treasure! I hope the bush does well where it's at, I've often worried that it doesn't get enough sun or have enough room between the Golden Bamboo and a Rose of Sharon bush. We'll see next year how it does and possibly move it to a more auspicious location.
We had quite the excitement yesterday. Dayle's hair was getting quite long and so I ordered a battery operated clipper and it arrived so we went out on the deck and I commenced learning how to be a barber.. :-D It kind of looked like a patchwork quilt when I was done and I kind of laughed like a hyena as I perused my work on his noggin. But it's not like anyone will see him.. right? And he's happy the long stuff is gone. So.. win, win... right??? :-X
Our Siberian Irises are in bloom.. which makes me happy as they did not bloom at all last year. I have no idea why.
The big pink Rhododendron is looking good, Dayle estimates that it is 25 feet tall!
The garden is growing.. we are going to do more planting today. Soon we'll harvest some of the larger lettuce leaves for a salad.
The first bloom on the 4th of July rose - I didn't notice that a earwig bug was in there when I took the photo. What do you call an earwig.. the same or something different?
The Bolivian Begonia, "Bonfire" is coming up after spending the whole winter in our basement, dry as a bone. It amazes me.
The "THEN" part of my blog post today -- while Dayle was mowing yesterday I decided to go through a box of old photos. What a walk down memory lane! This is one of my favorite pictures of Dayle, at the helm of Stargazer, our Ranger 26 sailboat that we had for 25 years. We're sailing up the Columbia River here from Cascade Locks.
I had purchased a waterproof camera back then and had taken it with me when I was swimming off the boat. I took this from water level and just love this photo.
This is another day when we took some of our family for a sail. Son Travis, his best friend Dan, my sister Roberta and her husband Teddy. Another shot I got from the water. :-)
Going back even farther, our dog Baba, (named Maximillian the 1st) a liver spot Dalmation, and our brand new VW Bus. My first new car. Dayle had a 1968 GTO and got this for me to drive. Oh how happy I was! This photo was in the front yard of the house we rented in Milton, Louisiana, on the Vermillion River (bayou). Dayle worked for PHI - Petroleum Helicopters Inc. flying crew out to the oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. This was taken in July 1970, we were married in February.
Here is a snap of me testing out the bed in the back. :-) We had this bus for 25 years. We drove it to Florida many times and camped on the beach and swam in the beautiful clear blue ocean waters there. To this day I rue the day we sold it. I wish we had it to this day.
Back to the present... Dayle made baked pork chops prepared with Shake 'n Bake for pork, fried potatoes with onions and corn for dinner last night. NUMMERS!
Today is gardening day, more planting. Dayle got a panel of lattice to put behind the peas and beans. He'll put that up today. I hope you are staying safe and being careful. We must all take care of ourselves and be vigilant. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
My goodness you guys are busy, busy. The garden and flowers are all so pretty. I really enjoyed your blast from the past photos. Stargazer is a beautiful obat and your van is something I've always wanted. I would love to have a van like that to drive around the country and camp in. Look how young you were Teresa! Why can't we all still be that young? :-)
ReplyDeleteTake care of yourself and hi to Dayle. By the way, you did a great job on his hair. I'm cutting Dennis' tonight.
Blessings,
Betsy
Your garden is really coming along. I love your lilac. We are expecting a winter storm, complete with snow this weekend. So, no more gardening for us until it warms up a bit more. I may even have to bring the plants that are in the greenhouse into the house at night! I love traveling down memory lane via photos!
ReplyDeletePretty flowers and sweet memories, a successful haircut, and a yummy looking dinner...all are worth celebrating! Thanks for posting, Teresa. xx
ReplyDeleteHi Teresa! Loving the lilacs and the pictures. Dayle looks sooooo relaxed on the boat, and the VW well, what a beauty. CN x
ReplyDeleteLovely Teresa 🙋♂️ Dayles hair looks good and loved seeing those past photos. Earwig it is here in Oz too. Weather getting cold here and have had my flu jab. Keeping well we both are and even though mothers day here no one allowed to visit.
ReplyDeleteLoved seeing your "old" pictures Teresa. Those VW buses were great, weren't they? So fun. Your lilac is just gorgeous Teresa. I love the way each petal is outlined. We have a salad with our dinner last night with lettuce from our garden! Delicious. And, I think you did a great job on Dayle's hair! A new career opportunity for you - lol.
ReplyDeleteWhat a joy to see some of your old photos and share with you some of your memories. The garden is really coming along, you have been busy. Take care and stay safe.
ReplyDeleteI completely understand about your VW Camper Bus. We had a 1962 pristine VW rag top in soft white with camel interior. It ran like a top. Gee, there's nothing like the sound of a 'real' VW humming along. Oh well, live and learn ~ right!?!?
ReplyDeleteOh I love your photos of old SO MUCH. A VW VAN Camper!!! WOW. Who wouldn't love one NOW? Good job on the haircut! I shaved fireman hair and it looked good.
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are just lovely Teresa and I need to see them!!!!
WE had to take another dead tree down today :( But, there are trees behind it that need that light and will f flourish with the other one down.
I sent a friend to your site to look at your crochet blankets. She does nt want granny square, ...its Steph from San Fran
Happy times in the past to look back on and remember. Well done on the haircut, your photo makes it look very professional. Beautiful flowers in the garden, its all looking good. B x
ReplyDeleteI loved that trip down memory lane. You look incredibly young and sweet on the photo in the van, wonderful. I looked through my own box of photographs not long ago, it is lovely to remember all those past adventures! xx
ReplyDeleteI love looking and hearing about your memories Teresa. I had a go at Little B's hair this weekend. I cut the front and sides and then had him jump in the pool, but saw quickly he had a mullet and we had to have another trim. It isn't perfect but it will do for now.
