Rainy Day at the Beach

The rain finally came, but it's only supposed to last a short time.  We'll see!  Dayle took Mocha for her morning walk so she's a bit wet.  The good news is that the big monstrous RV pulled out this morning before we even got up.  So.. look.. you can see the ocean again.  A new smaller van style RV is in now but you can see over it nicely.

After I posted on my blog on Wednesday we headed out for some gadding about.  We went through a drive thru for lunch at Arctic Circle.  My first job when I turned 16 was at one of these in SE Portland.  I remember how great it was to work close to home and you got free fries and ice cream.  LOL!  Next up we went to the Mossy Creek Pottery to find a couple soup bowls with handles like my sister Denise got.

When I walked up to the door I spied these lovely and BIG fuchsias.

We also drove down to the Historic Bay Front of Newport and we snapped a photo of their beautifully maintained US Coast Guard Station.

The have one of their old rescue boats on display on the grounds.

We also stopped by the harbor so I could take a photo of the fishing boat fleet.

A beloved old restaurant here called Mo's - my parents lived down here for quite a while when my stepfather was a railroad engineer and my mom made friends with Mo.

Another great place for chowder and fish and chips is this place, I love all the buoys hanging on the front.

This place is popular with the fishermen.

Our son, Travis, his wife Kristi and our grandsons Hayden and Caleb have come down and are having a mini-vacation, staying in a hotel for 3 nights.  Then on Sunday they will help us unhook the trailer and Travis will drive the Dodge dually pulling the trailer home for us.  What a good son!

We all drove to Depoe Bay last evening and ordered a take-out dinner of fish and chips and chowder and we ate in the car.  We tried out a rather new place, well, the building is old and used to be called the Spouting Horn and now new owners named it the Horn Public House.  I had the halibut fish and chips and it was exceptionally great!  Then we came back to our caravan and the kids checked into their hotel.  Below is a shot of the moon rising over Depoe Bay.

Our lovely sunset last night.

Back at the farm, my friend and house-sitter Shirley and her husband John went antiquing and she found a pair of egg cups for my jadeite collection!

She also was playing around with my grandparents Hoosier cabinet and rearranging things a bit.  When I visited the old family farm in Oklahoma one time I saw this cabinet had been left in the old farmhouse which was deteriorating badly, so I got my sister to help me move it out of the house and asked a neighbor if they'd keep it in their barn until I could come back with my station-wagon to bring it home.  It was painted a rather hideous green and the inside was an awful acid yellow.  We were moved to action when the family friend informed us they wanted it out of their barn and had moved it to my uncle Pierce's barn.  We headed out from our house in in the morning of a Thursday and drove straight through to my aunt's house in Watonga, OK, and arrived at 9 pm on Friday.  We visited for a day or 2 and then loaded this in our Peugeot station-wagon, also the oak 5-legged table, 2 other cabinets and some other things, such as the egg basket of my grandmother's on this cabinet and made the return trip home.  I had this refinished by my friend Gary Law - and it's a wonderful oak.

I want to wish you all a fun Halloween if you celebrate it.  Here are a few of my decorations to get you in the spirit.

I found a little container of more little agates in a drawer here so I added them to my little shell bowl.

Guess what I forgot to tell you?  It's my 10th Blog-aversary!!  I'm actually late to celebrate as my first post was September 11, 2010.  Click here to see it.

The next post will be made from home.  It's been a wonderful 2 weeks!  And guess what?  The sun is back shining here!  :-)

Treasure From the Sea

Hello friends!  Thanks for stopping by.  Dayle walked Mocha on Monday and they went down to the beach and he found 5 agates for me!

Mocha loved being on the beach.  She whizzed back and forth on her retractable leash.

The tide was coming in and the waves crashed near them.. in fact one of them got Dayle and he came back wet boots/feet.

See the spray from the wave crashing over?

Here is the fresh treasure, wet and sandy and nice sized, too!

I brushed the sand from them and put them in my jadeite shell bowl and they modeled for me.

I thought they looked appropriate in a shell dish.

I just love it when the light shines through them.

This one is neat.

I decided to make a crocheted pumpkin for my friend Shirley who is house-sitting for us.  This is hers before I crocheted the stem and tendril.

My pumpkin patch is growing!

Ta-dah!

Mocha was on the back of the sofa and I asked Dayle if he thought she'd stay there if I put the 2 new pumpkins by her and he said no.  Well.. challenge taken.. and she let me pose them by her.  LOL!

We are being treated to aMAYzing weather during our trip.  We only had one rainy day.

Monday night sunset.

So pretty.  The big motorhome that was below us left.. this is good and bad.  We had a few hours of unobstructed views.. THEN... we heard a large RV coming down the hill and horrors.. this monstrosity backed in right in front of us.  Sigh.  We love it when small rigs are there.

I had the idea to try stacking my agates for a photo.. oh my goodness.. that was quite the challenge.  We could only get two of them to stack and no more.  I say we because when Dayle saw me trying it he thought he could do better.. lol.. nope... I wished I had my glue gun.. lol!

Do you have agates on the beaches where you live?

I moved the stool I had them on into a pool of sunshine..

This is the most translucent of the agates.  So pretty.

Another sunset.  I'm looking forward to the full moon on Halloween.  :-)

We're going on an outing today.. I wonder what we will see?  Thanks for visiting and thank you to those who comment.. they mean a lot to me.  It lets me know I'm not posting photos and telling stories to readers who appreciate me.  :-)

Salty Dog

Dayle took little Miss Mocha out for a walk on his birthday morning and brought back this photographic masterpiece.  :-)  Happy Birthday, honey!!

He also got this pretty ocean image.

I took this one of the pretty morning with clouds and blue sky peeking through - standing in the open door breathing in the sea air and enjoying the sound of the crashing waves.

My wonderful sister Denise brought us some of her homemade split pea soup and a loaf of her sourdough bread when she came to visit.  Dayle tried out our new electric grill pan and made some grilled cheese sandwiches to go with the soup.  OMG.. it was the best split pea soup of my entire life.  She made it in her InstantPot, so I ordered the cookbook she used and we'll make it when we return home.

We moved our TV to the kitchen island this time so it's easier to view.

This is my view from my easy chair.  💙💚💛💜💖

Our cozy bedroom.

Chef Dayle making chicken alfredo with peas and mushrooms using a new kind of tubular pasta called Bucatini, topped with grated cheddar cheese.  Nummy!

Dinner with a view, can't beat that.  :-)

We were relaxing so I decided to start a new little pumpkin designed by Lucy at Attic24 blog.  Here I am getting started.  I heard a ding that an email had come through and lo and behold, it was Lucy leaving a comment on my last blog post while I was immersed in HER blog following her pattern!  I got a huge kick out of that and thought once again that ESP is a real thing.  I love you, Lucy!!

I had to check my progress and held it up and the sun was shining through it and *snap*...

A day of crocheting and this is the pumpkin, stuffed and sewn together.. now to do the stem and a curly tendril.

Ta-DAH!

I put it in my shell dish for a photo shoot with my other crocheted pumpkins.

I had to share this on my Facebook group - "Jadeite Junkies".  :-)

Another day in paradise.

We have the door open as I type this and the waves are crashing on the sand, the gulls are calling and fresh sea air is filling the caravan.  See the surfer below?

I looked over and this is what I saw.. miss Mocha making herself comfortable on the sofa with her head on one of my crocheted pillows.

Dayle took my iPhone down when he walked the dog and captured the US Coast Guard helicopter flying by to keep an eye on the coastline.

Looking south.. not a cloud in the sky.

On Dayle's birthday, yesterday, we decided to go on an outing and headed south to Seal Rock, where we got ice cream - he had Bordeaux Cherry for his birthday dessert.  This is a snap of the rocks there.

The sun lowered and we got a snap of it.

The sky turned very red and the color lingered for a long time.  It was so pretty.

Dayle spied the moon and told me so I took the big Lumix and snapped this image of it reflecting on the sea.

A zoom and *swoon*.. look at the craters!  I believe it will be a full moon on Halloween!  I hope it's cloudless.

I am working on a little pumpkin for my friend Shirley who is house-sitting for us with her husband John.  :-)  I'll show you when it's done.  I wonder what we'll do today?  :-)

Thank you for visiting and for the very sweet comments.  I have something to show you on my Wednesday post.  Treasure that Dayle found for me.  Can you guess what it is?
