A Quiet Week

One of my favorite weeks of the year is the one between Christmas and New Years Eve.  The decorations are still up but there are no expectations.  I make no appointments or plans and enjoy a week of down time.  Now to be honest, we've had 10 months of this.. but still.  I put my New Years tablecloth on.. and will be putting away the xmas decor I had on the table.

My blog friend KathyB got an advent calendar which she started on Christmas day as a countdown to the inauguration, so I did too.

This is only my third advent calendar I've had and I really enjoy having something fun to do each day, I might have to send some to the grandkids next year and one for me, too!

When you open each "door" there is a sweet little sentiment, too.

Some even rhyme!

As an antique collector, I love this one.

Each treat is the same, a delightful milk chocolate square that you must let melt in your mouth.  :-)

All washed up, the Jadeite gifts I received from my son Travis and DIL Kristi and Dayle.  I even found room for them in my cabinet.  :-D

I found this neat little jadeite intaglio cameo on Etsy for $4.  Now to find an inexpensive setting for it.  I might melt some of my sealing wax and make an impression of it so I can see her better.  She looks very dolled up.

So tell me.. what do you do on the week between Christmas and New Years?  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. Not much done this week this year. Will take ornaments off Christmas tree late week. I have a pedicure appt and a tiny bit of shopping in one store while out. Usually I'd be working. Now I am deciding about doing door dash. A good way to make some money. Happy 2021. X------X. :-}

  2. Dear Teresa, and once again you had lovely blogs to let us readers into your life! I am glad you and your family had a lovely Christmas! It is so nice to see your grandsons grow up and become almost young man! But it is heartbreaking to read you even have an advent calender to count the days untill your new president! <3 Things will change for the good under Biden, but I don't have to tell you! Christmas was a bit disappointing for me, because on the first Xmasday I woke up with a terrible could. Second Xmasday I had a C. test, which was negative! :) But ofcourse I already cancelled the dinners at my sisters homes. :( New chance at newyears eve!! Love, Janneke, the Netherlands.

  3. Glad you're having a good week. I love the idea of an advent calendar countdown to inauguration. I'm working here, but hopefully having a little trip out with the youngest at some stage. I'm intrigued by the cameo, it would be lovely to see a wax impression. Hope the rest of the week is good too, CJ xx

  5. Hi Teresa! It's snowing here again today. We have tomorrow off and then heavy snow on Wednesday and more every day through the weekend. Bleh. :-) That little cameo is so sweet.
I got new lenses ordered for my glasses today to I'm hoping I'll see better soon. They aren't predicted to arrive until the 6th because of...you guess it. Covid delays. *sigh*
I took my decorations down today and packed them away in our storage unit. I've had them up since the first week in November so I was ready. I did leave the twinkle lights up though. I think they'll stay through the winter.
I really enjoyed my advent socks. It gave me something to look forward to every day. I need to find something else to perk up the days.
Dennis went back to work today but has Friday off. Soon...retirement, I hope.
Take care and stay warm and safe. Say hello to Dayle for both of us. We're hopeful for vaccines by spring so we can drive over to see you two and Gracie.
    Blessings and love,
    Betsy

  9. I like your star tablecloth. Your advent calendar is much nicer than mine. I find it very hard to push the little chocolates out of the packaging. Might have eaten more than one yesterday and today. oops! :)

  10. I am feeling very lazy this week! I think I will wait until after New Year's Day to take down my decorations. I have some cards to color and send for January birthdays but not too much else that I HAVE to do!
    Happy New Year!

  11. I am itching to take down the holiday stuff but I will leave it up until New Year's. I can't wait to toss out the cookies and put those tins away. I made them too early this year and they are already stale. Araignee

  12. Usually I just relax and knit/stitch/read/nap. Today, however, I worked!! But, I really don't mind working from home, so that's ok. I like your tablecloth with the stars - perfect for New Year's!

  13. Well first I love that cameo find!! WOW. I fondly recall many parties my parents had during the in-between week with friends. Relatives were for THE holidays, but friends were for in between week. it linked our Christmas to our new years.
Teresa, in this unprecedented year , I want to thank my blog writing pals for their honesty and their vulnerability in their posts. What we share with strangers is really kind of remarkable. The blog pals in our group are such comfort in hard times. Thank you for your efforts to keep putting up amazingly beautiful crochet items, ponds and family times . I appreciate it!

  14. Hi Teresa I'm delighted to see you have an advent calendar. All the family have them here, no chocolate though just the traditional ones. I'm glad to see you relaxing after Christmas. Let's hope the vaccine roll out brings an end to all the darkness of the pandemic, I too have had enough and the NHS is reeling at the moment. Stay safe, hugs xx

  15. That advent calender is a brilliant idea...believe it or not I am also counting the days until your new president takes over. That cameo is most unusual. I shall look forward to seeing how you set it. I will be taking down the Christmas decorations on Twelfth night, the last day of Christmas,as they do here in Spain. keep well Amanda x

  17. The sunlight streaming into your dining room is lovely! I have been distracted since the day after Christmas with more texting and Zooming with family and friends which has been enlightening and a fun break from routine. I think I will leave up the Christmas decorations until after the New Year is launched. No matter what our circumstances may be I am trusting the Lord to provide His good loving presence in the midst. ((hugs))
