Ornaments Up Close

When looking at a decorated tree from across a room you don't really get to see the ornaments that have been collected over a lifetime.  I thought I'd snap some images of my favorites to share with you.. as if you were at my house for a party and were able to get a closer look.  Shall we?  This is one Dayle surprised me with, it reminded him of us, which I think is very sweet.

Each year I try to find one special thing to add to my Christmas decoration collection, this year it is a Fenton glass hand-painted Santa.  He joins my pair of snow people, also Fenton.

I'm finding it fun to have my inherited etagere next to the tree, an extra place to put treasures.

I love this little glass trailer/caravan we got while on a trip in our own trailer to the beach.  My blog friend Betsy will enjoy this one as she's living full-time in their trailer in Spokane, WA.

Here is a little carousel, it actually plays music, too!

I put my collection of vintage Italian angels together, they are each playing a different musical instrument.. I imagine the heavenly music they play, I also think they sing, too.. :-)

A fun miniature chicken wire basket full of yarn and knitting needles.

I got two of these little hand-stitched stockings years ago, I love the detail in them and always want to make some but have never gotten around to it.

I got this railroad lantern when we took the kids and grandkids on a Christmas railroad trip on a steam engine, the engine is the 4449, coincidentally, when Dayle was a RR engineer he got to work in the cab on several occasions.  One time, the children and I got to follow it from Portland to Eugene, Oregon and back.  We watched it leave from Portland and passed it in a siding in route and were able to watch it arrive in Eugene!

This is just a cute penguin in a little glass dome.

This fun crocheted ornament - I can't remember if I made it or it was a gift from one of my crocheting friends. LOL!

This fragile glass barn is a favorite as it looks like our barn that Dayle designed and built for our dairy goat herd we once had.

This one I did make, I crocheted the wreath, starched it, hung a lead crystal and added the ribbon and rose.

We saw "A Christmas Story" right when it came out, the kids were young and we were the only ones in the theater and Dayle and I roared with laughter through it as it was set in the 50's when we grew up.  This ornament can be stuck up onto a lightbulb and it glows, it's in the movie as the dad's "Major Award".

This UK flag ornament is an homage to all my dear readers in the UK.

I followed a pattern by my blog friend Lucy to make this heart and flower ornament.

This is a small Nantucket basket in honor of my trip there with my sister Roberta where we stayed in the Jared Coffin House - our actual ancestor!  We descend from Tristram Coffin, one of the original group of men who bought the island of Nantucket.

This is a treasured gift from my DIL Kristi.

Another heart-warming one.

I lit the candle on my wooden pyramid piece, Dayle told me it was a "glockenspiel".. I questioned his knowledge and googled it and had to admit he was correct.  He crowed with delight.

Another treasure is this beaded Christmas tree that Kristi put together for me.  It's actually lighted and she picked out little gifts under the tree, miniature things she knew I'd like, such as a Scrabble game.

A closer look of the beaded limbs of the tree and the tiny beaded ornaments.

Our youngest son Travis, Kristi, Caleb and Hayden visited Leavenworth, Washington, it's an Alpine Village.  Her sister and BIL also went and sis snapped this wonderful photo of the family.

Aren't they adorable?

They invited us for dinner yesterday, Travis made 3 racks of pork ribs and man were they delicious!

Kristi made baked beans that were yummy.

I hope you are having a great run up to Christmas.  I am so enjoying the lights and colors in our home.  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  4. I really enjoyed seeing your ornaments, Teresa. Each one has a story. That's what I really enjoy seeing on a Christmas tree. I didn't know the pyramid was called a glockenspiel! Please thank Dayle for the information as we call our's a gizmo like my Daddy did!

  8. Hi Teresa! You're right, I love the trailer and the fact that it's from Lincoln City. :-) Every time I chose an ornament as my favorite, I liked the next one too! You do have some beautiful decorations. That tree from Kristi is stunning. She put so much work and love into finding the tiny decorations and gifts for under the tree.
Leavenworth is a destination for us at least once a year...but not this year. We had planned a trip in April and we all know how that worked out. I'm glad Travis's family was able to go and enjoy all the town has to offer. It's so much fun and the german food is AmAzInG.
Have a wonderful Tuedsay my dear friend. Hi to Dayle too.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  14. Your collection is amazing! I love glass ornaments but sadly so do my kitties so they haven't been out for years. In fact, I vetoed the tree again this year. With all the boxes and plastic from the kitchen remodel it just wouldn't seem right. Araignee

  15. My late husband always said that our Christmas ornaments were our history lesson. I made him (and my boys) listen as I told the history of each ornament as they went on the tree. I loved seeing yours! Merry Christmas!

  17. Teresa hope you don't mind me pointing out that it is not an "English" flag on the ornament. It is a Union Jack for the whole of the UK. An English flag would just be the red cross on a white background. I am not an expert even though originally from UK. I remember trying to learn about the flag in Brownies when I was a little girl. I could still not tell if the thing was upside down or not.
    Your tree is beautiful.
