Happy and Sad Day

Yesterday an historic election was held in Georgia where 2 Democrats won and balanced the power in our Senate from a Republican majority to 50-50.  This will allow our new President, Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris to actually get some work done and not have everything they try to do be blocked by the Senate Majority Leader.  That is the happy part.

The photo is the only one today, my Shamrock plant is blooming which is a hopeful thing.

The sad part is while the Senate was approving the Electoral votes to finalize the presidential election a violent, raging mob of anarchists and domestic terrorists stormed the Capitol building. They broke through windows and security and thronged through the Capitol Rotunda and onto the Senate floor. The Vice President and legislators were rushed to safety by the Secret Service and all Senators and House Representatives are donned gas masks and were told to shelter in place in their offices and taken to safety.  Shots were fired in the Capitol building.

This started weeks ago when Trump tweeted to his followers to come to Washington DC for one of his rallies on January 6th, the day that our government leaders would certify the electoral votes that makes Joe Biden our 46th President.  He invited them to a rally by the White House and told them "it would be wild!".

For 1 1/2 hours he spewed lies and whipped them into an angry mob an urged them to walk with him to Capitol.. he then slunk away while they all marched and descended on the building, where they broke windows and kicked in doors and streamed into the building.

They ransacked the place, they trashed the Oregon Senator, Jeff Merkley and stole his laptop.  One a woman is dead, a Trump fanatic, she was crawling through a window inside the building and was shot by those protecting the Senators.  Her life is on his head.  (Update: 4 people are dead from the riot of trump supporters - 3 more died, 1 a heart attack and one tased himself and died.)

Also edited to add: trump supporters are claiming it was antifa who did all the damage there - yes, there were some but the fact is they supported the insurrection led by DJT and so they acted to support his goals of overturning our election.  I watched the news and 90% of the people I saw were trump supporters wearing his hats and waving his flags.  This is on HIM.

l am sickened by this.  Please keep our country in your thoughts.

Teresa.

  7. I was so shocked when I saw what was happening in DC when I turned on BBC World News this evening. My first thoughts were for my blogfriends in the USA and how upset you must all be. I am astounded that the outgoing president could even suggest such a thing to his followers. My heart goes out to you all...and hope it will end soon. Hugs Amanda x

  8. I can't believe that a man who claims to love his country can incite such acts of violence and anarchy. The sooner he's gone, the safer your country will be. xx

  9. I live about 30 minutes from the mess that is going on in DC right now and it makes me sick. Daughter couldn't even see some of her students today because of the curfew. What really makes me mad is that friends were shot with rubber bullets and tear gassed this summer for praying in front of a church but these sickos literally walked right into the capitol. I am livid. Araignee

  10. This is such a sad and scary time for Americans. I cannot believe that one man could bring such violence and shame to our country. I hope he is arrested for inciting violence and about a thousand other things he has done to flaunt our laws.

  11. Hello Teresa. Sending love and hugs from the UK. We have watched the news in disbelief. I hope that things calm down. Is he going to be allowed to get away with such disgraceful/dangerous behaviour. Take care. xxx

  12. I really wish this had not happened but this was clearly escalated by antifa.

    1. Yes, there was some proud boys and others of their ilk, but I watched the news and I saw with my own eyes that 95% of the people marching on the Capitol were clearly wearing Trump hat and carrying his flags. You cannot blame it on antifa, it was instigated by your beloved trump. I cannot wait until I never see him or hear his horrible voice again.

    2. lilycat960@gmail.com, you are incorrect - "antifa" means Anti-fascist - this group is against Trump and would not riot for him. The groups that came in - Proud Boys, and other right-wing militias and MAGA groups are Trump supporters that have been lied to for months by their leader who does not love this country - only himself.

    3. Yes,By rioting and wearing Trump gear they are making him look bad.

    4. The only person making Trump look bad is himself. He invited all those creeps to his rally, got them wound up and sent them to the capitol. This is on him. And 5 people are dead because he's so immature that he cannot accept that he lost the election.

  13. Today certainly was a sad and scary one, wasn't it? There were even protests in Olympia at the governor's residence! On a happier note, I love your shamrock; currently mine is pouting in the garage. Any suggestions? In the past it's bloomed well in the summer but not this year. I also have a purple one, and it wasn't doing a whole lot better. Sigh.

  14. I couldn't believe what I was seeing when I woke up to the news this morning. Absolutely sickening and so sad. I thought of you straight away. Sending all my hugs and support to you and your beautiful country.

  15. It is absolutely unfathomable that this has been allowed to take place because the GOP failed to act. They let that narcissistic, pathological liar continue his crazy, bullying antics without consequence which emboldened him and his cult. Where were the military? How is it even possible that all those people were able to get into the building? Too many have not been doing their job to serve and protect and they all should be held accountable. What an absolute shambles.

  16. Your shamrock plant is beautiful and a hopeful sign for today. I keep praying for our beautiful country. Nothing is ever resolved by violence. Just more violence. Both sides need to come together and work together to try to rebuild. If that doesn't happen, I don't see things getting any better. So I pray continuously.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  18. Thank goodness Congress has now confirmed Biden's win. What an absolute show of disgrace that was, no doubt this is going to damage the already tattered reputation of the US further. Democracy is a very fragile thing. Here's to a better future for your amazing country xx

  19. I was so saddened by all this violence when I saw it on the news, my heart goes out to you all and pray that a resolution can be found to put an end to it all. What kind of world are we living in when violence is an accepted way of life, it is no example for our children but I have no answers just so many questions...sending a hug Teresa.

  20. I was so shocked too....though sadly not surprised. Thinking of you and the people of the U.S. and praying there is no more violence.

  21. Teresa,
Once again I am so glad to see that you post about the daily joys of life as well as the big important things like flipping Georgia and insurrection at the capitol building. I am still reeling from yesterday. I didn't get out of my pajamas all day. Watching the Georgia senate race and then the shit show at the capitol building (and that was BEFORE the Trump supporters got into the building!) I just could not get into my regular daily routines yesterday.
Thank you for pushing back on the "antifa" nonsense. This was Trump and his supporters all the way.
    Only 13 more days!
    Peace and love in PDX,
    Melissa

  23. Your plants are so pretty. I was saddened yesterday by what I heard happened at the capitol building in Washington, D.C. I don't watch much news anymore. Hard to find in roku tv right now. Although can be found online. Sad our people are upset and antifa is not good at all. We are all people who should care for one another. We are a nation, under God, indivisible with LIBERTY and JUSTICE for all!! Hugs and blessings, Becky

  24. Sadly, I believe this shows the fragile state of our democracy. Something I never thought I would say (or see).

  25. Teresa, well written. I was so sad. I was terrified they would set the building on fire. Bad enough what they did. Then I worried for the elected who had to go back into those same chambers, who cleaned it? I didn't see a mask on any of the Trump rioters. I don't want the Senators and Reps getting COVID on top of all this horror. Was I naive not to see this coming? I don't know why we don't see Psychiatrists telling us how to handle the crazed Man in the White house. Im afraid he wants to take everyone down with him. I think our only saving grace is the the believes all those people love him. If he felt no one did, I think he would do more damage. HE is so so sick. WE had no time to be thrilled that we took back the Senate. But we did. And if we make it to 1/20 good will come

  27. From siege to shining siege!
If there is one small light at the end of this nightmare, it is that the name of "Trump" will be right up there alongside the likes of L H Oswald, John Wilkes Booth, etc. Not a chance of a hope that a "Trump" of whatever flavour will be allowed within a hundred miles of a local town council, let alone the White Hose.
