Update and Minis

Hello friends.  An update on our son Travis.  He had a bit of a setback on Wednesday, he had fluid building up in his lungs which left him weak and they had to address that and by Thursday he was feeling much better although weaker than he had been.  His oxygen is pretty good today and they plan to have him up and walking.  He is a busy guy and is not used to being in bed and not able to move freely so hopefully he'll be well enough to go home soon but no word on when as yet.

My green shamrock plant is full of white flowers.

I have been playing with my little cabinet to pass time while I worry about my son.  I found a little coffee grinder and some tiny cupcakes in my dollhouse to add, plus a pot of irises in bloom.. can you see the tiny bud?  Click HERE to see my dollhouse.

I have a few more miniature things headed this way, can't wait to show you.  :-)

My Meadow blanket has provided warmth, diversion and is uplifting to my spirits.  I wove in all the ends from the 2nd color segment.

Dayle made some fried rice for us.  I looked up how Alton Brown makes his rice and he tried it and omg.. it was the best rice EVER!  You brown some butter, then put the dry rice in and brown it a bit in the browned butter, some salt then add the water and cook for 20 minutes on simmer, take it off the burner and let it rest 5 more minutes before taking the lid off.  It was delicious!  You can google Alton Brown rice recipe and find it.

For the fried rice, Dayle cubed and browned some spam (or ham), sauteed celery, peas and onions, add the cooked rice, scrambled eggs and soy sauce, stir and brown it all together and serve.

Thank you again for all your wonderful prayers, good wishes and concern.  It has meant a lot to us.  I hope you have a wonderful weekend!  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  1. I am sorry to hear about the setback but he is strong and will make it though this even with fluid in his lungs. My oldest had swine flu and ended up with double pneumonia and pulmonary effusion, he was 15 and almost hospitalized many times. He went from a super athlete to skin and bones in 3 weeks, still he made it and regained all his strength just like your son will. You are all in my thoughts and prayers and I am here if you need anything.,

    2. Thank you for your link, I opened it right away, although it is in the middle of the night down here. What a lovely, beautiful dollhouse it is!! So rich, so detailled! Wonderful wooden floors, a lovely familie! All the furniture, the pots and pans, the plants! What a love and dedication you spend on that treasure! I will take time to explore every room of it and I will dream of having one of my own! Thank you for sharing!! Lots of love, Janneke.

  5. What sweet miniatures! My dad built beautiful dollhouses. One for each granddaughter. My mom loved to fill them with tiny treasures. I wish I had taken more photos of them.
It's nice that the blanket has given you comfort. It certainly is beautiful.

  6. Hi Teresa & Dayle, (of course Mocha too), I'm sorry to hear that Travis had a setback but at least it was not long-lasting and he's doing well again. He's such a strong guy, I know he will recover completely. It's such a worry for all of you though. I did ask for prayers for him last night at our Bible study. It's a small group of 10 of us who have met every Thursday night for almost 28 years now. We have missed very few Thursdays. Only when Dennis and I were on vacation as he leads the study or if a holiday fell on Thursday. When these people say they will pray, be sure they will lift Travis before the Lords throne every day until I tell them he's better. :-)
Your minatures are lovely on the hutch and I'm looking forward to your St. Patricks decorations peppered with all of your beautiful jadeite.
I love, love, love fried rice. Dayles looks amazing. I'm going to look up Alton Brown's recipe and make some soon.
Take care of each other and give each other an extra hug tonight. You deserve it.
    Blessings and love,
    Betsy

  9. Dear Teresa,

It is so good to hear that your son is progressing. It is such a stressful time for you all, but with each small improvement, one's heart can be just a little lighter. Your son is clearly making progress and this will surely mean that he will be home with his family before too long. The Shamrock flowering is another sign of luck!!

We have looked up the Alton Brown rice and shall certainly try your fried rice receipt. It looks and, we are sure, tastes delicious. How lucky to have a talented chef in the kitchen.

  11. I'm glad Travis got through the setback and is feeling a bit better. I do hope he's allowed home soon, but it sounds as though he is getting very good care where is as well. Great that his oxygen levels are good, no doubt that will help him feel stronger. Look after yourself my friend. CJ xx

  12. It is good that Travis is still in the hospital so they can take care of any issues he is having. I am glad they are cautious and making sure he is in good shape before releasing him. He is young and strong and will bounce back but needs to stay patient and take it slowly but surely. Easier said than done!
My middle son is a medical researcher who studies heart attacks. They are working to discover which proteins rebuild the heart muscle after an attack and their research team calls it "fixing broken hearts". So much amazing progress in dealing with heart attacks these days!
    Stay safe!

  13. I am sorry to read about the setback... recovery can be such a bumpy road, for the patient, and for the loved ones waiting and eager to be assured that everything will fine again. It's good you keep busy, absorbed in happy projects, comforting pastimes. That fried rice looks scrumptious!

  14. Teresa, I surely pray that today brings good news for Travis and soon he will be home with his family. Your doll house is gorgeous! You amaze me with the things you share, my friend. The fried rice looks great!

  15. So glad that Travis is healing. Hopefully he will be home soon. We are fried rice fans here. I used to be a baker in an elementary school and the cook manager taught us all how to make fried rice and since then (1979) it's been a regular meal. My favorite is to make it with leftover chicken. Loving your miniatures. Happy weekend!

  16. The road to recovery can be bumpy but I am glad to read that Travis is moving in the right direction. It sounds like he is looked after well by his medical team, that is really good to know. I have never eaten Spam! It scares me a little but it sure looks delicious in your fried rice. We have some cooked rice in the fridge, maybe I'll have fried rice for lunch.

  18. The only time I ever ate spam was when I was 14 and cleaned house for a pregnant woman who already had a toddler. She used to always make fried spam, mashed potatoes and corn for him to have for lunch. :) That miniature dresser is the cutest thing. It's good that Travis is getting such good care, but of course, just being in the hospital has its challenges, too, so I do hope he continues to improve so he can get back home and truly rest and heal. Thank goodness for crochet and hobbies to ease your stress.

  19. I love your jadite collection. And being able to 'score' that lady's collection was great timing. My husband had what he/we call the 'daisy dishes'. And we mailed them back to our house in Tulsa from overseas, but...didn't wrap them well enough. Had a lot of breakage. "Don't worry these are all showing up in the 'antique' stores as people get rid of their parents' stuff" I assured him. Well, we started looking in the local antique shops everytime we were home and even on the road. No luck and I was beginning to think I had really messed up. Then one day revisiting one of our usual shops (you know you go a few times a year) he pulled me to one aisle and said, "I don't know how you missed this." A whole damn set with pieces he never had, but we still only have 3 of the cereal bowl he likes but plenty of everything else and two sizes of platters, serving bowls, gravyboat. Well you get the idea. It is our utility use dishes and makes such a pretty table. Then as frosting my mother gifted me a cookie jar she had picked up somewhere that was, yup, the daisy pattern. You just never know. Also I love your Hoosier cabinet. Had a chance to buy one, decided we didn't have a place for it, changed our minds, went back and yep it was gone. Still looking.
