Birthday in the Emergency Room

What a week this has been.  We had reservations at an oceanfront hotel for my birthday.  But I'd been feeling ill for several days so finally we realized we'd have to cancel.  :-(  On Sunday we called the hospital nurse's help line and after describing everything he said we should really go to the Emergency Room.  Which is how I spent my birthday.  Checking in, being assessed, getting a CT scan, donning a lovely backless gown, getting an IV inserted, installed in a room, on and on.  The final result after being there from Sunday to Wednesday at noon is I have two ulcers in my stomach.  I had no idea they were such painful!  I've dealt with a lot of nausea and other things you don't want to know about.  But today Dayle brought me home and I hope to be on the mend.  Apparently my use of Nsaids such as Alleve is what did it.  So, be careful and try not to use them.  This was the view of Mt. Hood on our drive home.  I'm so happy to be in my own home!  One of the effects of all this is I've lost my appetite.   Dayle made me a grilled cheese sandwich and I could only eat 1/4 of it.  Now I have rumblings down there.  I will have to Google foods to eat if you have ulcers.  Thank you to those of you who have expressed concern to me for being missing.  ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  2. Glad you are home! Yes, Nsaids, have to be taken conservatively, My SOn in laws father ended up in the hospital with bleeding, because he used them for a chronic neck problem.

I have migraine headaches and take two when the aura begins, and that is all I take, but I take them with a bit of bread so that I have something in my stomach...I would like to take more, but know what they can do to the stomach.

Hope you will be feeling better in no time! I know you have a good nurse at your side, as well as a good cook....take care!

  3. So sorry to hear of your ulcers. I use NSAIDS and even aspirin sparingly, if at all. You will have to have your chef be in charge of your new eating regimen. Glad you only were in the hospital for one day. Be safe and well♥

  6. Oh, dear....I've suffered from ulcers almost all my life. Welcome to the instant mashed potatoes, bananas, cream of rice and scrambled eggs club. Mylanta is my best friend. I keep a nice cold bottle in the fridge where I used to keep my wine...lol.
I hope you are feeling better soon. They are miserable and the stress of everything we have gone through this past year hasn't helped. I'm pretty sure I've eaten my weight in Tums.

  7. So good to know that you are home and on the mend. It had to be very frightening to go through everything and be in the hospital, too. I take Aleve, too, and will be more cautious about it for sure.

  8. Oh I'm so glad you're home Teresa. I was so concerned about you. Ignore my text from tonight. I hadn't seen your post yet and I was at Mom's and didn't have my computer.
NSAIDS can be bad. I tend to take them for my migraines because tylenol doesn't seem to touch them. After your problems, I'll probably try something else instead. Let Dayle baby you and I hope you're able to eat and pain free very soon. Mocha will be giving you lots of love as I'm sure she missed you a lot. Be well my dear friend.
    Blessings, love and hugs,
    Betsy

  10. My GP prescribed Omeprazol to take when I take Ibuprofen for my arthritis, as she said it can cause stomach problems. I now try not to take the Ibuprofen, or only for a day or two. Anyway, glad you're stay was short and at least now you know what it is. Steer clear of acidic foods for a while. xx

  20. Teresa! I am sorry about this... those had to be some long days, and I am glad you are home, again. Thank you for sharing the precaution about those meds. It's so hard to need things that can add other problems, and I hope that you figure out everything that will have you all well, very soon.

  21. Oh, sorry you were ill - that is certainly not the way to spend your birthday! I bet Dayle will book a belated trip when you feel better. I take a lot of aspirin so now I will have to work on quitting that habit! Thanks for the warning!

  22. Teresa, I hope you are feeling better soon. I am surprised the doctors and nurses didn't send you home with a list of foods that you could eat. You take care of yourself now!

  23. So glad to hear you'll be backing your own bed tonight with nurse Dayle looking after you. I was given Naproxen, the UK equivalent for arthritis pain but after 2 attempts I gave up after they upset ny stomach so much. Take care xx

  35. What an awful way to spend your birthday. Is the keto diet any good for ulcers? I do hope you were able to celebrate your birthday properly even if it had to be a little late.

  38. Dear Dayle and family, I'm not sure if you're monitoring Teresas blog especially given these sudden events but I have recently seen the news about the sad passing of Teresa in the comments section of the Attic24 blog. This is devastating and I desperately wish it isnt true. I have followed Teresas blog for years and her posts about her crafts and the goings on of your family and your beautiful garden have warmed my heart. She never failed to pop in and comment on my blog. She was a warm, beautiful lady and I will very much miss her in blogland. I'm sitting here in my home in Melbourne Australia reflecting on how this wonderful woman reached thousands of like minded souls across the world. Sending our deepest condolences from my family to yours, xox Louise
