Tiptoe Through the Tulips

My dear husband went to Costco and surprised me with this lovely bouquet of mixed color tulips.  What a dear!

I arranged the tightly closed buds in my favorite vase.

The flowers are opening and this is how they look right now.  I'm happy that they are staying upright.. so many tulips flop down.  I have no idea why mine are staying erect.  I did cut all the stems when I arranged them.

Having these beauties just 2 feet from me is really joyful.

He also brought home this whirligig.  It's fun to see it spinning in the garden.  I was worried it would scare the birds away from the feeders but it doesn't appear so.  We had hoped it would scare the squirrels from robbing the feeders but that hasn't happened.  :-)

He also bought this hanging basket of tuberous begonias, I love the flame colors in this one.

We're being blessed with gorgeous weather and will be 57 deg F today.. but seems like it will be warmer from the looks of it.  We're having our older son, grandson and his girlfriend over for dinner tomorrow.  We've had to keep them distanced for the last year but now that we're both vaccinated we're celebrating and making one of his favorite meals - teriyaki chicken wings and fried rice.  We're looking forward to it.  I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
((hugs)), Teresa :-)

How wonderful to see family again!!! We get shot #2 on Tuesday and I am dreading it like nobody's business. I keep telling myself it will get my family back in my life so I am moving forward although with very wobbly legs.

  4. My tulips I got before Easter stood up well but then after I poured out the water and put more in, the next day they sagged and opened up. Yellow/orange which was pretty and a favorite color Phil likes. I hope to find some purple ones at the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm next week. I had to order my ticket online. Only way to get a ticket from them and be there at time you can go in. I like your whirlygig. Often thought about buying one but I do have a nice colorful one that is so nice to view while it's spinning. It was cooler Wed than today. I was out and about a bit this afternoon. Finally took of my sweatshirt when I got in the car at Baumans Fruit and Farm to get some items I needed. Staying home most of the weekend. Need to get some cleaning done in office area/family room. Always something to do!! Have a good weekend and enjoy time together with family!!! ".}

  5. Hi Teresa -
I love the tulips - Spring is tulips and daffodils and everything in between.
Your whirligig might help keep the herons away from your fish pond. Enjoy your family celebration :)

  7. So pleased you've had your jabs and you can see family again. You need to prick the stems of tulips under the flower with a pin, it lets the moisture out and they will stand up straight. Try it, it works! CN xx

  8. What beautiful tulips! I am going to have to get Sr P to look at this post and admire the tulips as well, at the same time I am going to remind him about what other husbands do for their wives. Yes Sir! A surprise bunch of flowers would go down very well with Moi! They are just perfect in that lovely vase! I do like the whirligig...fun to watch it spinning. keep well Amanda x

  12. Dear Teresa, lovely pictures of your tulips, they all look very dutch! :-) I bought myself a yellow bouquet, a red one was hiding in it, surprise! Your whirligig is cute, glad your birds are not affraid of it! In the area where I live we have no squirrels. I would love to! It is still very chilly in the Netherlands, colder than usually. But at home it is nice and comfy, and I never get bored! Yesterday I had my vaccin, I do like to crochet, (I finisched my blanket, now I am crocheting butterflies), and making cards. I am so lucky as to have shops for both of it in the next village! And of course, I do help out at primary school when needed! :-) Did quiet a lot of that the last months! Stay safe, lots of love, Janneke.

  14. Hi Teresa! Look, I have internet and can comment again on blogs. Your tulips are gorgeous and especially in the jadeite vase. So pretty and springy looking. Nothing says spring to me like tulips and daffodils. So glad you get to meet with all of your family now. I didn't know there was a GF in the picture. How fun. Have you met her before?
It's been a super busy day today. Mandy, Piper and I bought living room furniture and a washer and dryer. The new furniture won't arrive until June because of, you guessed it, Covid. The washer/dryer is arriving tomorrow. Thank goodness. Then Mandy mowed Mom's and our grass as well as digging dandelions and edging. She really worked hard. My niece and her husband were here last night for dinner along with Mandy, Piper, Mom and my sister Melanie. I made a homemade chicken pot pie which was a hit. Then Tim and Chela came back today and Tim, took down broken blinds for me, replaced some bulbs I couldn't reach, fixed one of the toilets so I have a usable one now! He removed a door I wanted off the hinges and carried a table to the garage. It is SO nice to have family around to help with things. We've been on our own so long I've forgotten what it's like to have family help. :-). Talk to you soon my friend.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  16. Oh Teresa, us too! We are vaccinated and starting slowly to make dates with friends. It feels like we are doing something wrong! I wish the numbers were improving. Even though we are protected , the variants and the kids are not. I think I've decided and told you a hundred times that Im not going back to the barn. I am going to try to get back to the knit group if it has formed again in my favorite shop . I love your whirligig
